Thread: Difference between Doctors and Combat medics?
Hey,
Is there a big difference between Doctors and combat Medics besides the fact that Doctors have to heal in a hospital and Combat Medics can heal from a distance in the heat of combat?
Thanks
you mean aside from buffs, rezzes, woundhealing, state healing, cure, Stim E/F for Docs vs Area Stims, Ranged Stims, Poisons, Diseases and Area Poisons/Diseases for CM's?
Docs have more toys that are not broken ,)
Doctors are the ones that can rez right? Now what is the point of that if they have to stay inside anyways.

Nooo!!! Docs aren't supposed to stay in... why would they get stimD and Es if they're supposed to? or the cure state ones?
Docs dont have to be in hospitals. We can heal wounds in camps and anywhere we have a medical droid (except cantinas). We have better single target heals than a Combat Medic, but combat medics get better range and Area affect stim packs. They also get poisons and diseases so they have offensive medical power.
Personally I prefer doctor, but I do get tired of running around the battlefield to get within 6meters to heal everyone.
Doctors also get buffs which one day,we are told, may actually work. We can add over 1000 to all the non blue stats if the things ever get debugged.
w00t thanks guys!
Twolast questions, if they can heal outside with a medical droid or at a campsite:
1) Why would any group choose a Doctor over a Combat Medic to go out into the field with them
2) Since you are not suppose to stay inside, and you have to gather reasourses for stims what combat skills would be the best since they have low hp?
Doctors are GREAT in a fight. Whoever told you they have to stay inside is completely insane. Doctors are meant to work in battleAND after battle. This "doctors are meant for the hospital" thing is a newbiemyth -- it doesn't work like that at all.
Doctors are the best at healing one person at a time in battle. Theyget the best single-target stimpacks, with bigger heals than Combat Medics. Yes, they alsoget the best medpacks for healing wounds.
But Doctors' stimpacks still only have a range of 6m, the same as a Medic, so they have to /follow and run over to their target. Meanwhile a Combat Medic gets ranged heals (aka health grenades) which can bethrown from a distance to heal someone. Combat Medics also get group heals (heal more than one person at a time).
Doctors get buffs (e.g. +1000 health) which are needed before a fight, while combat medics get poisons they can apply to cause damage on a target. And yes, doctors can rez and CMs can't. Maybe doctors should be renamed Combat Doctors to get rid of this myth.

Remember they are not classes. There are enough skill points to master more than two elite professions. The Carbineer you group with may also be a Doctor or Combat Medic. Everyone in your group may be a Doctor. Or your Doctor may also be a Combat Medic, as you have enough skill points to be both.
With a CM, you have more reliable heals. With a Doctor, you can be revived back to the battle instead of having to run back. A Doctor/CM can do it all, but will only have moderate weapon skills.
That's a good point MorvenDee. As I catch myself doing alot, most people think about locking themselves into certain classes. I think the point of the skill tree is to become a master, and then learn other attributes. Your characters abilities are determined by you, not SoE. However, I have run into a few people that are becoming a "jack of all trades, master of none". The marksman / medic / entertainer / architect / weaponsmith / hairstylist combo's might be pushing it. My character is training in CM and Doctor. I am skipping the Wound Speed tree in Doctor to save some points. I also have Pistol IV. So far I think this has been a good choice (and I can solo like nobody's business hehe).

There's nothing wrong with being a jack-of-all-trades, because none of your skill point spending is permanent. If you run out of skill points and want to go higher in one profession, you just surrender skills in another. My philosophy is that you should always have as many of your skill points tied up as possible, because unspent skill points are a wasted resource.
