Thread: Good Medic, Bad Medic ...
Sheesh, touchy send button...
anyways as I was just trying to get started
I have finally worked my way to Master Medic, during which I have put serveral long hours of healing at the med center. This afternoon I finally mastered medic and although very happy I was somewhat dissapointed. You see, after spending a lot of time in one place you get to know people a bit. I have met some exceptional doctors and Medics whoes talents go beyond the skills of their trade. and then there are the ones who really bring shame into what we do.
I am referring to these bad medics as "Hyena Healers"
Hyena Healers are springing up quite a bit these days. You will rocongnize them as the guy who sprints across the med center tossing heals into the air without so much as a greeting to their patient. Hyena Healers only heal health and action wounds, but not completely, the only heal when the think they can get a full heal with their med. Hyena Healers often abandon their patients before all there wounds are healed since they don't want to waste time and mind on lowly stat wounds, when there are fat juicy health and actions wounds available on other patients...
Hyena healers really give the rest of us a bad name. I have mastered a lot of the medic XP on stat wounds that hyena healers wont touch. In doing so I have recieved quite a lot of tips from those patients whom I have completed from a Hyena Healer, and in doing so made some great friends.
If you are starting out as a novice medic, please do so with integrity and honor. Remeber that every patient is not XP but a real person behind those pixles on your screen, treat them as such.
And most of all, please dont be a Hyena Healer
Thanks

Now that's just silly. I am a master doctor and usually hang around the Bestine med center, since a lot of faction people get whomped on and come there for healing. I have my supply of medpack E's and I use those. I can heal upwards of 1000 in wounds, at my high end. However, sometimes they still have a sliver left on their bars. Do I finish healing them? Only if I'm the only medic around, and that's happened all of once.
You see, my medicines are expensive to make. They take tubers, polymer, a solid shell deliver, two identical chem controllers from a factory crate and three biological controllers from a factory crate. If I heal someone and don't manage to get their entire bar, then I'll leave it to the lower level medics to heal up. Sure, I could leave the entire thing to them, but people like getting out of the medical center as quickly as possible. I help them do this and sometimes get a nice tip in return. As I said, my medicines are expensive, so earning my tips is a good way to fund my crafting.
As for stat wounds, I ask people first. If they have 100 or so in a stat wound, I'll heal them up. If they have less, I will leave them to the lower level medics. Once we get the diagnose command, that will be a bit easier, but until then, we have to ask and judge from that. You have no idea how bothersome it is to heal 5 stat damage with a woundpack E.
So anyway, we aren't hyena healers, we are simply efficient and considerate of the newer medics. Sometimes we get tips, other times, people go afk and only see the last person to heal them, which will be the newer medics, and will give them the tip. I don't mind this at all. I remember how tough it was to be a new medic and they can use all the credits they can get.
Silly?... yes, that's how I ment it.
HoweverI was referring to medics, that's why I posted it on the Medic forum and not the Doctor forum.
Perhaps it is a difference of idealogy, I see healing as a personal thing, I care about the people I treat, andI see it as rude to start another patient if the one yourworking on has not been completed.
Do I think your a Hyena Healer?... no, that term I ment for Medics who just see their patients as XP instead of people.

This is a problem and ultimately it's a result of the competitive enviorment in medical centers. The best way to advance your charecters is to be selfish and it's causing issues, I brought this up in the weekly review but bottom line is as long as people have to compete for patients they're will be animosity. You should be an bonus for grouping with others and working together instead of having to fight each other off and create animosity. I'm one of the healers you described, sometimes when I'm waiting for a shuttle, or waiting for friends I pop into the medical center and do some exp or train some folks and I don't really spend alot of time on the "hi how are you today?"s. If I could come in, grab a group help some other people gain more exp like entertainers do in the cantina it would completely solve this problem, it doesn't need to be alot but people would feel better about it and co-operate more.
Heck I NEVER heal that final sliver of live because half the time some poor medic is using /tendwound to get exp and I want to make sure i leave him something considering how slow it goes. I remember carving that out as my niche when I first started healing, I was the "top up guy" and I enjoyed finding people that would let me do that for them. I leave the same gap for other healers too for the same reason and have been doing so with good intentions but it can clearly be taken in the wrong way, now if we were all working together we'd eventually co-oridnate our efforts for maximum effectiveness instead of finding new ways to screw each other over. I think it's an important issue though. ![]()
Well spoken
I can see both sides of the issue, thanks for your guy's input. One thing I don't understand is that entertaininers can group and they share xp , but medics do not share xp if they group. I think that is a problem. Part of the enjoyment of being a medic for me is working as a team, often times I see us as a "pit crew". I think that group XP gains for medic heals may help reduce the competion while still effectively meeting the needs of the patients and the medics.

Camraderie, teamwork, efficiency...these are the things a good medical team has. And they should receive a bonus for it.
Entertainers share xp when grouped, Medics and Doctors should be able to as well. And if the Group Leader is a Doctor, then give that doctor some Squad-Leader like abilities to grant healing bonuses for the entire medical team...
So many ideas that were never given a chance...
*wonders if Aukness is still out there somewhere*

Yes, but then it is still open up to explotation, for example, a group a medics can be in a med center, and refuse anyone who wishs to join them. If they have enough people then they can catch ppl as they walk through the door, stopping every other medic from advancing
I do think that it is a good idea, maybe give each medic under the doctor a +25% of the doctors healing abilities so that Novice medics can heal wounds far more effectivly than they can now, but the problem is that if it was implemented, you would be compeating with a group of people, rather than just one at a time
that being said, a lot of the medic types on Chilastra are maxing out. I've been playing in the cantina band for a few days now.. and the med center in My Kor Vella is usually empty of medics/docs/CM's. The players are still in the area, as I see them in the cantina. I don't use my doc tag in tthe cntina, but people that know I'm a doc, are always asking me to come to the med center because there are no healers.
When people don't need the XP, the healing jerks will wander off, so will many others. A lot of people in SWG are so focused on leveling that they get kind of stunned when they master something... they don't know what to do now. Leveling was what they did in other games (forever), and they ground out their masters in SWG... in no time.. Now they have no idea what to do with themselves. Kinda funny.

I would love to see grouping bonuses...simply for the social and team aspects. I liked the comparison to a "pit crew". It would be great to have a group and coordinate the healing...an advanced medic or doctor does not want to "waste" a med pack on a sliver...he can direct another medic to the patient AND that lower medic is not ticked that a higher level is "taking" his patients. Similar level medics want to work together "you take Health...you take Strength...etc." Why wouldn't that be a good idea???
I enjoy sitting around and chatting with patients and other medics alike. I think grouping would the idea of a coordinated effort.
I would like GROUPING!!!!
Now...Medical Missions.
Personally, I think it would be a nice change of pace.
But I would much rather GROUPING.
Chopper
hehehe i bet this is another issue that could be solved by medical missions...
then xp would be abundant...if u were inthe med center unable to compete with the master surgeons u could get a mission for money and xp and then go off and do it and have no one there "stealing' your xp.
Lol i laugh at this post because I have said it time and again, I always knew that this is how the medical profession in this game would end up. and this is exactly why putting in a in game payment system of any kind would make this situation 100 times worse...
just imagine if it wasnt just xp people fought over now but its money too?
lol i see ugly med centers...
