Thread: No more xp for healing pets
From Vass on Test Center . .Going live tomorrow (Tues)
- Changed medic XP such that you no longer get XP for healing pets.
ANY pet.
I can understand not getting xp for healing your own pet, but with the prolifiration of pets as tanks, you have now relegated the medics/doctors/CM's to the med center.
[sarcasm] Thanks a lot [/sarcasm]

There's now NO point in making D or E stimpacks
That said, this is just another band-aid solution to the real problem of absurd pet HAMs.

Sure there is, you will still need Stim-Ds to quickly heal a pet. When I'm in a group with a pet tanking, you think I'm going to refuse to heal it because I don't get xp? That's a sure road to the cloning facility.

What I posted in the other thread:
I'm not talking about group healing, that's well understood. I'm talking about CH's coming into the medical centers and hospitals, or meeting up at banks/bazaars/starports/etc.

Healing for free is one thing when you're at least getting exp for it. There's a trade off then, you give your credits for exp. Now it's another credit sink to a profession that's already broke. I've had many a debate on the whole mandatory tip thing, and fine, if tipping remains unobliged, then at least give some sort of reward for doing it. I realize they wanted to stop CH's HAM'ing up their pets, and then getting a noob medic to heal it up, powerleveling the medic, but this isn't the way to do it. A better way would have been to make a scaled factor so that lower meds would do almost no healing (and give almost no exp) to pets. A multiplier like .3 for A's, .5 for B's, .7 for C's, .9 for D's, and 1.0 for E's would be a better solution. Then the exp you get for healing pets is more in line with what you should be getting.
Medics and entertainers are the ONLY professions that REQUIRE another player to xp. That is the main reason why entertainers and doctors are forced to give away thier talents for free, because the alternative is to not xp at all. I used to get xp by healing my pet, and it was a fun way to grind xp, especially compared to sitting in an empty med center for hours on end. I could have understood a reduction in med xp from pets, perhaps base xp on percent of total HAM bar healed rather than specific numbers in regards to pets.
I guess they should remove the ability for everyone else to xp solo as well.
I wouldn't be so upset if the developers had one vision that they were using, but when they decide to change the rules seemingly at random and each profession get thier own rules it begins to seem like they don't know what they are doing...

Good idea but... I had suggested a multipler for packs on pets, and a percentage-wise thing would only discourage healing buffed people because you're using more meds for that vs. healing an entertainer with low health HAM per se.
Medics and entertainers are the ONLY professions that REQUIRE another player to xp.
Entertainers at leastget dancing/musician xp (slowly) as long as they're dancing/playing.
My PA is CH heavy. We use our pets as tanks. Now I've got to get group members to volunteer to get hit upon or I don't get any xp.
This is *not* a good way to go!!!
There is a silver lining here. If medics don't get XP for healing pets, then guess what its time to start charging. I am forced to heal people and pets for free because if I don't another medic will do it just for the XP. Now I no longer have to worry about this, very few medics are going to waste valuable stims to heal big assed creatures if they aren't get XP, so now they, I & you (WE) can start charging for a service. YAAAAA what a novel concept.
I honestly think the Devs have done us a favor.
And this is coming from a gal who was planning on going to LOK to join a group with big creatures so I could power level. I don't mind giving up the power level for some solid credits.
It appears that the devs have given up any premise or notion of investigating the side effects of the changed they are making. It appears that the percieved problem here was that Medics were earning too much XP healing pets... so they took the most direct route, regardless of the consequences, and took it away completely. I am constantly dismayed lately by this attitude. This has many, many other effects on the game, and it appears that they were not considered.
No pet healing XP: Semi-solo Medic/CHs are now almost completely stopped in their forward progress as a Medic. Obviously their pet does 99%-100% of the tanking. That means almost all of the healing they will be doing is on the pet... so no XP. Is this a playstyle that they do not approve of? Because it sure appears to be.
The same situation exists with more dedicated medics that adventure with their CH friends.
And while there are many, many fine and friendly Medics out there, they are already SO taken advantage of by people who callously sponge up their healing without the slightest notion of offering a return, you just can't expect them to swallow this pill too. No tips... and now no XP either?
As someone else previously mentioned, Entertainers and Medics rely almost exclusively o other players for XP... I cannot even begin to imagine why the devs are spending time negatively impacting their few good XP resources instead of fixing things that are wrong with the game. After reading about Pistoleers (a class where it appears you can sink your XP into 16 boxes of skills that dont work), Commandos (don't even get me started on Q's entirely-too-dismissivelist of 'working as intendeds'), and now this kick in the gut to Medics? What are they thinking about? Anything at all?
In the mean time... we deal with bugs like not being able to retrieve items from the Bazaar... group members becoming invisible... items vanishing from inventory... mission targets spawning in houses or not at all... and GOOD GRIEF: GHOSTING!
Anyway... sorry to get off on a tangent. There are too many better ways to handle this situation... and I hope that the Devs will realize that no Med XP for healing pets is a MISTAKE and pursue a better alternative that doesnt continue the press of homogenizing the game experience and negatively impacting interesting/variant playstyles.
