Thread: No more xp for healing pets
This change to medical XP is quite frustrating to me. Due to the way SOE has designed this game, I'd estimate about 90% of my medical xp comes from healing pets when PvE'ing in a group. Whether SOE intended it or not, pets are the main tanks in this game. Melee player characters just don't have the hitpoints or DPSto keep up with pets. With these canges,my medical progression is pretty much gated.
This is even more amplified by the fact that every player in the game can have a CL15 pet. Groups are full even though there's only 6 or 7 players because everyone has their pets out. Now you're telling me I'm not gonna get xp for healing 66% of my group members? What kind of crap is that?
Seriously SOE, you need to rethink this...
I'm very, very unhappy with this change.
I hunt with my boyfriend, who plays a CH/Ranger. When it's just the two of us, his pet takes 90% of the damage. The rest is evenly split between the two of us. So, since I already didn't get xp for healing myself, and now won't get xp for healing the pet, I'm only going to get 5% of the xp I have been getting? That doesn't seem right or fair. His pet is our primary source of damage and healing his pet is my contribution to the group.
I don't want to go back to the days of joining huge, disorganized pick-up groups and getting screamed at for not healing someone fast enough, but unless I join groups where players are willing to take a majority of the damage, I won't get all the medical xp I need for both Master Combat Medic and Master Doctor.
Medical XP is so fecking easy to get. Who cares now if we cannot heal pets. Get a group of friends together, go hunting, and have THEM tank, and heal them, and if they can't stay alive during the fight without pets, then you all are obviously fighting something way over your heads, so gear down a notch or two.
Christ, so many of us got to our levels WITHOUT healing pets, to hear the outcry about this is mind boggling.
Look at this as a business opportunity too.. Charge to heal pets if you feel so inclined to do so.
Not to mention Loony1, you miss out on the percentage of Combat XP you getfor healingthat wasa result of the last big patch. The Devs giveth and the Devs taketh away.

Don't get me wrong, PrimaDonna, I totally understand the plight of the poor and destitute Medics and Entertainers... but I dont think this will impact that significantly. The problems that the Entertainers are dealing with are the part-time dancers and musicians who skill up to heal their own BF and dont care if they get paid. Personally I feel the professional entertainers need to organize and work toward getting paid. I think Player Cities will be a step in the right direction for them.
As for the medics healing for free... that's a tricky situation I guess. I think, however, that the situation is similar. Many of the lesser medics that I see in the med center are multi-classed combatants who are advancing Medic as a way to heal themselves more efficiently. I also dont think that these medics are going to be as severely impacted by no XP from Pet Heals as the ones who dedicate themselves to the profession... the more skilled Medics are certainly more needy for the XP this generates. Now how does this relate to Credits you may ask... welll... these lesser medics are the ones more prone to be there and available for free healing. But the truth is that I just dont understand NOT tipping your medic. I personally have NEVER leta medic outside my group heal me without a tip. Same thing on the entertainers. Medics SHOULD get paid. I mean.. if I run missions... and get paid X credits per mission, then I feel that the medics who keep me moving are entitled to part of that. (cant remember the last time he was healed and tipped less than 500 credits regardless of how few wounds he had)
I feel your pain, Prima... but I guess that I dont feel like you should dismiss the XP issue purely because your playstyle will be better suited by what you percieve as a boost in income.
My jaw dropped when I read about this nerf in today's update. I'm a 4/4/4/0 medic, and my pet DEFINTELY had a great deal to do with it... But still, this may turn out ot be a good thing for the medics. Why?
1.) There's nothing in healing a pet for medics anymore, meaning that Medics SHOULD charge for substantial pet heals. Tipping in this game is like chivalry...a dying art form. The meds should be more aggressive with the CH with the 8k HAM pet, knowing he'll just up and leave oncehis pet ishealed. Ask someone to slide you 1k for the8k worth of healing you have to administer. It's only fair...drugs are expensive to make (or buy if you're too lazy to make them like I am)
2.) Medics will have to again associate with and heal players for their xp. Too many medics ask to heal pets in the med centers for free b/c they know they can make great xp for healing it. That's how I did it! I could heal my pet and get quick xp for it, which allowed me medic xp w/o healing the "NEED HEAL PLEASE!!!" screaming non-tippersback in the med center. Which leads to...
3.) Medics can finally earn respect for their services. I feel for all medics that are just meds, doctors...even the entertainers fit into this category. They get little respect, many times just used for their healing services and then disregarded. Sitting in the med labs trying to earn medic skills showed me how difficult it is for those that DON'T hunt to make a little cash. Maybe the tipping drought will stop now. If there's no incentive for a medic to heal your giant sand beetle, a wise player would be friendlier to that medic, remembering that the medic is providing them a service, and do his or her best of compensate them.
I am a CM/Doc with minor CH ... I perfer the field and not the office.
I like to solo .. this is a huge change that was not needed.
If you issue is to fast exp .. slow it down but there is a balance between all or NOTHING that theSOE developer just don't get
I only get to play in like 1 to 2 hr stretchs max. I can solo red cons with pistol now for great pistol exp ... why can't i get solo med xp?
The only response I see people using is that they can charge for healing instead of getting exp. I just don't understand thisview, but I am not a hospital type sit around doctor. I make money as a doctor 2 ways (sell meds) and (sell organics that I harvest from battle). I never run out of cash .. so I have a hard time seeing the issue from my point of view.
I could even see them taking your own pet exp away and lowering the xp to heal rate on other pets to 1 to 10 from 2 for 5.
The choice to go to NOTHING is wrong and if I don't see some change within the next week then I'm gone.

PS : Your message boards lack of an author edit function is incredibly stupid.
Actually that change is in fact going Live. The second set of changes was going to TC in addition to those listed going Live.

I'm against the change. I'm now totally and completely dependent on others for xp. Maybe REDUCE xp for healing pets?
This is the type of change that can hurt the casual gamer. But it seems that SOE has decided to stop supporting the casual gamer. Like every other MMORPG. I thought this game was supposed to be different?
Ho hum.
Can I have some cheese for my whine? I'm bored at work. And I'm sad. Hold me?

No exp for healing pets!! Ok this is horribly. I understand not getting exp for healing yourself. Now you can't heal pets for exp. What next you can't heal players unless you are in a medical center? Besides the point of power leveling a medic by allowing them to heal your pet, Why couldn't a medic heal something besides themself for exp. Isn't the point of being a medic being able to heal for exp? Maybe the solution isn't stopping medics fromhealing pets for exp,why can'tit be balanced. For example: How about if medics are able to heal petsfor exp based on their ownskill.Skill novice - 1st row can only heal pets 15and below, 2nd rowcanhealfor exp from pets 18 and below, 3rd skill row can heal for exp from pets 23 and below, etc. There just has to be some way to balance this issue. If this nerf continues it is going to seriously hurt the medic profession and the economy in general. Medics are going to have to demand payment based on the level of skill and time to heal another player. If a medic gets into a hunting group they are going to waste supplies on keeping main tanks alive ( pets ) with nothing to gain. I just can't see this being a solution. To even level as a medic is going to be outragous, if you only get exp from healing another player and it takes 4 heals vs healing the main tank ( pet ) with 15 heals. We will never be able to skill = to other players. This is just very frusterating.

There is a silver lining here. If medics don't get XP for healing pets, then guess what its time to start charging. I am forced to heal people and pets for free because if I don't another medic will do it just for the XP. Now I no longer have to worry about this, very few medics are going to waste valuable stims to heal big assed creatures if they aren't get XP, so now they, I & you (WE) can start charging for a service. YAAAAA what a novel concept.
By that reasoning, if they removed xp from healing players...
Yeah, doesn't sound good does it?
I didn't have to heal any players for free, because I had an alternative for xping. I healed my pets, or I healed a friends pets. Why look at a nerf as a reason to start doing what you should be able to do anyways? It's not this nerf that allows you to charge, it's the inability to xp without other players that STOPS you from charging. Sorry, you just have it backwards.
