Thread: Medic/Doctor is (now) the only profession you can't do solo.

Like the title says, you can no longer get medic xp solo. Any other profession in the game can get xp for their profession without a single other person needed. They removed getting medical xp from pets, so now a medic is forced to heal players damage or wounds for the experience. You may want to argue that crafters need other players also, but that is completely wrong. It is the opposite for crafters, because they are the most solo profession and only want other players to get money from the things they craft. Other than medic, any profession can reach master without any interaction with other players. You don't even need to interact with players for apprentice xp, because you can buy it with faction points (actually the only xp worth buying with faction points). Healing yourself doesn't give you any experience. So why are medics being forced to interact with others for experiencewhen no other profession has to? I'm not talking about the game playability of a medic being needed by others. I'm talking about the ability to progress your character without involving someone else.


Merchant is the only other profession that might not be soloable. I don't know what ways a merchant can get xp, so they also might not have any way to get experience without another player. If they can't even get 1 experience point without needing someone else, then they also fit into the non-soloable category.Medics can get absolutely 0 medical experience without needing another player.


This post is about progression of your character solo, which means getting experience without the need or assistance of someone else. It is not about playability, efficiency, profit, or design concept of any profession.

well i think that this was kind of a hard nerf against the medical professions in general seeing how pets were the best xp in the game since they were the only things wiht enough hitpoints to fully utilize a stim e on aside from a buffed player


however i would disagree with your idea that medic should be able to solo for xp long before the creature handler nerf when there pets isnta regen'd they didnt need us they usually let me tag along to keep there pet heal not because they needed the pet healed but because they were helping me out


now anyone can have a pet provided its lvl 15 or lower and medics could just heal there own pet for massive xp


this nerf is a huge hinderence to the medic professions pets were the best xp in the game now its gone and progressing will be increasingly difficult however i feel medic is not to be a solo advanced profession why be a medic is your going to advance yourself solo im thinking 2 reason


doctor so you can buff your stats really high


combat medic for poison


thing is youve got the wrong mindset if you be a medic 1st and everything else second youll be fine if it helps you lvl im sure your frends will bend over backwards to get themselves killed for you

This thread has got to be a joke. Medic/Doctor is the EASIEST profession to solo in SWG without ever healing a pet.


Anyone who thinks that you were ever meant to level up on your own by healing your pet has got rocks in their head.

dee, i think you mis-understood his question. he was trying to say w/o any interaction with another character, you cannot get medical xp. i know some people have 1-2 hrs a nite (some are even at 3-5am when the majority of us are sleeping) running around getting xp. i know at times at 3am on the weekends its stinking hard to find patients in the MC or Cantina's to heal to get xp.


(side note: dancers/musicians are the other class that solely relies on other characters to xp)


i also see dee's side, since the original intent of medics was interaction with other characters as a support role. they were never meant to be a true solo class.



only thing this does is turns the current fad (of healing pets for quick progression) into a has been. the new upcoming fad is healing the radioactive patients. before that it was to goto a faction town and heal the db people (bestine/anchorhead/moenia, etc) that didnt clone.

Ah yes the entertainer. I had forgoten that they actually need someone to go up in the healing branch. They do however get dancing and music xp from performing flourishes, not from people listening to them (which may give a small bonus).


Read what I said before commenting please. Didn't I say that this wasn't about playability. I myself hate soloing; it's just plain boring. Professions are getting nerfed because they can solo things, while other professions are getting buffed because they can't solo. Just before release, the most unique feature of the game, crafting, was changed to make it more "solo friendly". The designers said they wanted soloing to be a viable option, but now it seems soloing is the main focus of their attention.


How about this, reduced xp for healing pets and yourself.

you are in a MMORPG, why do you want play solo?
And dont tell me "becouse everyone else does", its your decision to cancel your internet connection and play some kind of solo game.

Hmm...I wonder if they'll take away the ability to heal Entertainers. They're a medic exp machine in bigger towns. I'm only mildly annoyed at the "nerf" but it doesn't seem like a good solution. Your pets get hurt like players and they need to be healed. What's the difference? (Do Bio-Engineers get exp for using pet stims?) Same with healing yourself. Seems like you'd learn how to heal even on yourself. Ahh well...what do I know?

All I can say is this. If somebody has the time tosit around healing their pets for hours on end, why punish the solo or casual player? Medics are NEVER gonna level at a copmarable rate to other professions, now.


I am a casual player. That means 2 things: 1.) I do not get to play for more than a couple of hours at a time. Most group activities take much longer than I am playing to organize and do, therefore I'm mostly solo.


It was hard enough to play medic before the nerf, so I ran a bunch of faction missions and got a couple pets to help out. Over the 2 days I was allowed to heal them I got almost 40K pistol XP and 6K medical XP. 6K over 2 days. Yeah us medics are leveling way too fast. I get that much pistol XP from 2 Faambas, about 20 mins. Over the 2 days since the nerf I got 50K pistol XP and 0, nada, none, zilch, medical XP. As a result of this nerf, my hopes of becoming a Combat Medic are all but smashed.

There's already a thread on the SWG forum petitioning for a nerf on medic abilities to heal Entertainers.


Funny how some foulks would rather cry nerf than look at the actual problem.


In this case it appeared to be beacuse the individual in question wante dto see more Medics in the Med Center, presumably because they were not getting healed. Instead of suggesting that there be incentives in place to enouraged Medics and Doctors to go to the Med Center, he suggested what amounts to another way of preventing Medics from getting XP.


Go figure.


My personal request to folks like that... be constructive, not destructive.

i have a hard time imagining ne1 in this game could level to elite master without otehrs...


combat people need entertainers to heal BF and mind damage


they need people to heal them...they need people to sell them weapons and armor....


the list goes on and on..


and crafters can easily solo to master without ever selling an item to anyone...but what would be the point


lol dont know where u think only we need others....


people need other classes in the game bottom line

I dont think the "nerf" was intended to stop soloing at all. It was to stop people from getting endless and easy med exp of off their own pets.


If that stayed in, and everyone can have pets, then why not just give people med exp for healing themselves?


I think it was more of a way to stem a basically endless form of medical exp whenver someone wanted it.


Totally agree?..not really, but I think that may be what the reasoning was. Now if they only stopped people form healing thier own pets by getting free med exp that way thenthat would have been better.


Allow exp for healing others pets, just not your own.
