Thread: Medic/Doctor is (now) the only profession you can't do solo.

Medic IS hard to solo. I've been trying to do it, because it's hard to get crafting XP while you're group is screaming "hurry up! you can do that later!!"

solo or not, it's still fun. MY big complaint is the fact that people don't really tip medics anymore. They just come in, sit down, get healed, and leave. I honestly think that the other players should tip more often. Resources cost money, or are difficult or dangerous to get.

Even training costs money, if no one is around to teach you.

there are now 2 schools of thought, in my opinion:

1. Make it easier to solo medic. create medical mission terminals, so a medic can be JUST a medic, and still make money. no one should be forced to learn to use a rifle just to make money. Then, and only then, will it be acceptable for people to continue stiffing the medics when it comes to tips.

2. Make tipping a mandatory thing. as in, a certain amount of money is drawn from the injured player for the medics services. then the medic would rely on other players, and still be able to makea living. The only people i see getting upset with this idea are the people who don't pay medics. they should be ashamed.

I was on another forum, which was discussing AT-STs. An imperial PC said "If you don't like getting killed by AT-STs, quit whining and join the empire, then you can get your own."

I feel the same way about medics. If you aren't going to tip us, you might as well just pick up novice medic, and heal your own wounds. sure, it's easy enough, but if you are a marksman, you don't want to spend all YOUR time hunting down resources and sitting around crafting meds. And you certainly don't want to spend your skill points on things you don't need. all in all, you could spend the 77 skill points and the 50k credits (give or take) to get master medic, but then you would be a medic. and if you wanted to be a medic, you might as well have made one in the first place.

Medic shouldn't be some kind of "back-up" profession that people use to get by in the field. I take my profession seriously. I enjoy healing people and talking in the med center. But please, please, please!!! Tip us. even if it's only a hundred credits. heck, you make at least 1k for a mission. 100 credits should be a nice way of saying "thank you for keeping me healthy so i can make more money!!".

Then why is it that SOE wanted to make soloing a viable option?

I think one reason that there are so few medics is that it is completely gated for solo players. Ridicule them if you wish, but every MMO has a whole lot of solo players. Most are just casual gamers who have 45 minutes to play and don't want to spend 15 of it looking for a team that they will have to bail on. But they can't play a medic and get anywhere at all because they can't get solo xp. I've thought that was a problem since way back into beta, but nobody else seemed to agree.

You have this with any game. There will always be one class that solos better than any other and one that cannot solo as well as any other.

From my EQ exp, a warrior is SOL when it comes to soloing, not efficient and really cant be done. A Druid could solo all day long.

Medic seems to be the warrior class of solo abilities in SWG. Some may not like the next statement, but lets be honest, if you wanted to solo, why did you pick a medic/doctor? Be definition, it is a profession that helps others.

It may seem infair, but I dont really see who or why a medical class should expect solo exp...you need to have a patient to heal to get better at your craft. Real doctors dont work on cows and dogs, they work on people. So the pet change makes somewhat sense, but I like the way they are discussing to giving partial exp back when you heal others pets.

combat people need entertainers to heal BF and mind damage

they need people to heal them...they need people to sell them weapons and armor....

the list goes on and on..

and crafters can easily solo to master without ever selling an item to anyone...but what would be the point

lol dont know where u think only we need others....

people need other classes in the game bottom line

There is a huge difference between needing others at various points to do specific things, and needing someone for EVERY point of xp you earn. Artisans can craft and destroy (or just practice mode) and worry about selling when they can make an item in great enough demand to sell. What if it was required that each and every item they produced gave NO xp until it was used? You'd have artisans giving thier crafter items away fro free, just like medics and entertainers do. (And yes, they actually tried this in Beta where artisans only gained use xp, and they all gave thier items away to make progress... no one could sell anything).

Requiring others for xp is what keeps medics/doctors etc from earning any cash for healing.

I don't believe medic is gated for solo players. It's gated for antisocial players, but not solo players.

Hanging out in the hospital healing black wounds or around town with a droid is easy to do solo. Healing entertainers in thecantina is also a solo activity.

Before you protest "but this needs other people", yes it does need the presence of other people in the game, but they are a commodity andit does not require their consent. You don't have to talk to them, and sitting/dancing AFK in the hospital/cantina,they might as well be NPCs.

There is nothing stopping the solo player climbing the crafting skill branch either.
