I will randomly heal people, no more than 2-4 at a time, until someone gives me a tip. Once tipped, I will focus on one person. I think it works well.

I've tried taking the approach of "catching more flys with honey than vinegar". I help to organize the medical center to give it a more pleasant and easy approach for the medics and the patients and I socialize frequently with those I'm treating and those around me. I make comments here and there about putting together the med packs we use and how hard it is to find resources for them. I basically try to bring them into our world briefly while just continuing treatment and helping get the medics and patients squared away. This seemed to have a very positive effect, especially last night, and the tips and resources flowed in. Actually had some scouts go out and hunt up some meats for all the medics there. I think that seems to help folks loosen their pockets some if we give the impression of attending everyone. Even the simple act of organizing patients to sit in certain areas gives them the feeling of personal attention even when the formal healing doesnt get to them right away.

We had a really hard time the first couple of nights of the game because it was so much chaos and folks were getting irritable. Once we found out that the beds were actually helpful in the process and did some rough triage, the atmosphere really improved. I'm going to try to go on with this approach for a few more nights and see how well it works. Will probably try to arrange the med center with certain lvls of care in certain parts of the building. Ya'll have any thoughts on this?

Hmm, good point. The vocal entertainers get the most tips, should work just the same for doctors.

Well on the Tarq server and mainly on Tat, the medics have been charging 1c per heal point. Not too many people have complained except for the ones that just rose from the dead and it costs them 2k.

i heal anyone i can for exp. When it gets buisy while i am healing someone (asuming i dont' know them) i shout MEDIC FOR HIRE. Those who dont' want to wait usually dig deep in pockets. i'll stop healingthe non payingguy and go to highest bidder. Made 3k in two hours yesterday. i usually make small talk with every patient hoping to atleast get a tip at slower times. Also if you see someone decked out in armor and looks like they got alot of money ask about there destroy mission or there successes. I found they like to brag about there successes and often tip you just for helping them and letting them feel good about themselves.

I'm going to try this for a while and see how it works. I'll post the results here.

I will continue to sit in the medical center, and even continue to heal people without being asked and without a tip expected. But every once in a while, and also when I'm asked personally for my services, I will say something like this:

"I am a Medic for hire. If you need my attention, please negotiate a fee in advance. The fee is very flexible--I'm not looking to bankrupt you. In return, you will have my undivided attention until you are 100% healed."

Like I said, I'll see how it goes and report back. What do you guys think? Both medic and patient opinions are desired.

I've just started as a Novice but I already feel good about healing but I do expect payment when not grouped (except entertainers in cantinas). Just think if heal for free all the time then when vehicles come out everyone else will be riding while we're left behind walking.....not gonna be me.

I also tr the education approach. Recetnly it is really paying off. Mostly I try socializing, but also making sure that I don't use /tell when helping out other medics on telling them ways to improve, what resources are good to use and so on. I also try to be very vocal about our training needs and strongly encourage all the medics to help train each other. As a Novice Doctor, now, I casually let the other medics know how much it is costing to go up the training tree, since I always train my fellow medics for free as well, when patients are around. This helps the patients to understand the costs involved in gettign better at healing them and when they see how much faster I can heal them, they have really come to appreciate that tipping the medics to help them get trained up is a huge plus for them by greatly reducing their wait times.

We are really getting to the point now where patients are parctialy seeking me out to assist with the "Medic Training Fund" and we are educating scouts how much we really like Insect Meat (at least the kind we get on Talus). That seems to be working pretty well and expecially when we get someone who has been in the field a while, dies and comes in with massive wounds taht they used to have to sit for an hour or more just to heal. THose guys are almost always apologetic about not being able to pay us, but when they make their corpse run and get back to us, they tend to be kind enough to throw in a decent 1000 cred tip.

So I definitely encourge the medics to help each other out and educate their patients as they educate each other. It really turns into a win/win situation.

Well, as promised, I'm back to report. My new approach worked very well last night. I actually didn't spend much time in the med center, as I was trying to get a large chunk of resources so that I can make the push to Org Chem IV tonight. But when I was there, and I gave my /pitch (I made a macro for it), it never failed that someone gave me a /tell right away with an offer. The lowest was 300 and the highest was 700. I also didn't get any negative reactions from anyone, which is good. I think I've definitely found a niche as the guy you can go to when you need healed right now and are willing to pay, and it's a good niche to be in. *grin*

Glad to hear that worked for you Mr Tortoise. I spent part of my night last night sampling for resources and the rest of it helping in the Medical Center. When I got there it wasn't that busy and there were 4 or 5 healers sitting around healing folks up. I went over the center and drew up a rough plan on how to run it when it gets busy later (which it did). I tried to get input from the other medics but most of them didnt say anything.

Not long after that the injured started pouring in. Pretty soon I wasn't doing any healing as I was staying busy juggling all the wounded coming in and trying to match up medics with patients. It was kinda chaotic at first as so many were just ambling about doing their own thing, but soon I was able to keep a written list of incoming patients and the medics were cooperating greatly. I noticed at one point that several patients were tipping me just for paying attention to them and trying to orchestrate things. I tried to clarify that I hadn't been able to do any actual healing, but they all insisted that I was indeed helping and it did seem like things were going alot more smoothly than they did before. At the peak time, I was juggling probably two dozen patients and had two newbie medics under my wing trying to get them acclimated to the healing process. I didn't get a whole lot of healing XP last night when it was all said and done, but I did still enjoy myself and I dont think we had one person that whole night who didnt enjoy their experience either. I also wound up with more than 1500 credits in tips when I finally checked. (wow)

I think next time I try this I'm going to try to get at least one of the more advanced medics to handle one side of the room while I handle the other and see if we can get a system of trading triage and healing time between all of us. I hope that soon we can all draft a more standardized system like this for running the med centers during peak playing hours to make things more predictable for us all. I had a great time last night, despite the maddening rush of patients, and look forward to doing it again. My thanks go out to all the medics and patients who were there last night and for their hard work and patience.

It's a fine line we have to walk with this. At least in my view. I'm a Medic. While I desperately need money and resources to keep healing at peak efficency, demanding money to heal makes it seem like I'm in it to get rich off others, which isn't my intention at all.

You need to make sure you're explaining what the money is for. Last nite was a particullary busy night, with lots of people throwing out the "I tip big, heal me first". Finally I broke down and snapped! I said "I see a LOT of people claiming to tip hugely if I heal them, but I've only had three tips! I need resources to make medicines to keep YOU healed, so please be patient while I heal people and make more."

I got 400 resources and 1500cr within 30 seconds. Just need to let them know you need money to keep healing, not to have mad lewt.
