I've made a habit of tipping resources. I'm cash poor, but the Medics who've helped me have appreciated the "meat tips".

I'm training medic as well, so I know how helpful an extra 100 or 200 Insect meat can be Now if I can just find a way to get a steady flow of INorganic's

I like Zarlor's education approach and it works very well for me too. Many people simply don't know how healing works in SWG, at least not yet. I can't tell you how many times people ask me to heal their wounds when we weren't in a medic center/hospital or camp. Once I begin socializing, educating them and explaining the costs to us regarding healing, I many times end up with generous tips and the good will of the person. Simply badgering them for tips rarely worked for me and seemed to be going against the grain of why I wanted to climb the medic ladder to become a doctor in the first place.

Another method that works for me is to associate yourself with a group of players. They, as they hunt, harvest and survey bring you your materials and in return you give them free heals. This frees up a lot of your time and money.

Absolutely right! By gaining the appreciation of those you help you will begin to find people that are of a like mind to you. Healing does, generally, take some downtime for a non-medic and you may be able to find someone you can work with very well. You provide their healing or medical supplies and the next thing you know they are helping out the Medic Training Fund, providing deeds to harvesters and everything beyond just creds and resources. And they feel GOOD about doing it, the same way many folks in real life also enjoy donating to their favorite charities or helping out their friends in need. I'm not saying the med professions are charity cases, but in the economic scale of SWG we are fairly low on the income totem pole without doing a little extra work and making contacts.

If there is one profession where interdependencies on other professions is exceptionally high, it's for the medic. So give your fellow medics a hand, learn how to make money (you can sell those stims if you aren't going touse them, you know) and definitely make contacts and friends! There is no greater resource in SWG than having friends. THAT is the key to success and speedy advancement in this game, IMHO.

Not to mention, as someoneI noticed put in their SIG line on these forums, you may not want to forget that at some point in time we may see Player initiated Bounty Hunter missions.

"Otherwise they just get /tendwound."

They don't tip you, so you use a method that takes longer, hurts you greatly, and makes you have to go to the Cantina to tip and entertainer to heal you every other patient? I used to use tendwound, but got sick of the downtime and constant Cantina trips.

Heh, funny you should mention that. I haven't tended exclusively to a patientfor about two days now. I find that everyone has been MUCH more agreeable in the area and understand that I have lots of costs to be able to heal them in a matter of minutes so that they can be on their way. I use my medicines on the regulars who I know are going to pay the standard fee, and then some. I allow people to give me IOUs and or resources in exchange for healing. I sell my medicines to lower skilled medics from the components that I buy from them at an extremely low price so that they can heal wounds at a decent rate so that players understand that paying for medicines gets them healed faster. And they're really good about it. You just hit 'em with one /tendwound after they saw you completely heal someone who had full wounds on ALL HAM bars in a couple of minutes and they say, "Wow, those medicines are really good. How much time did it take you to make?" And they understand.

I dunno, maybe the community that's building up in Bestine on Flurry is just really good. I've given "house calls" to camps, had regulars come from other planets to heal, the medics all are trying to help each other with what they can. They don't try to undercut the others for experience. Might be that I was extremely lucky and fell in with some genuinely good people. Sure a few people complain, some are still really loud and demand healing as soon as they step in the medical center. But overall, it's pretty effective.

Guys, guys, guys. We're a needed profession and we shouldn't be working for free! Sure, we get the experience. But experience definitely isn't everything.

Here's what I do in order to get funding for my materials since I often buy them from other players.

Only use medicines when you're tipped beforehand! I've got a little macro that I use to greet newcomers into the medical center and I ask them to sit down patiently and wait their turn. If they want to be healed ASAP through the use of medicines, they should pay a fee of 100 credits per 100 wounds to the nearest hundred. Otherwise they just get /tendwound. That seems to help people understand VERY well that you're not there to just pander to their needs, but that you have needs too. Like the need for resources or credits for training. A good deal of the players quickly understand your needs as well if you sit them down and explain it to them. At first a few players were put off quickly by the fee, saying "you get experience from healing me!" to "that price is completely arbitrary, why should I pay such an outrageous price?" But after a bit of talking they realize that a lot of work goes into healing them quickly to get them out of there.

Not only that, but reward those who pay your fee by having the paying customers come first. This is also good because if you're using your medicines on them, they're going to get healed much more quickly and get back to their usual activities rather than waiting to get healed. And if players say they need to run to the bank after getting healed, take their word on it. If a player says all their credits are on their corpse and they'll pay you when they get back, let them give you an IOU. Every player I've run across saying this, comes back with twice what I charged saying that I did a good job. One instance, the player came back the next day with a 3000 credit tip!

Doing this, in the matter of two days I've made at least 20000 credits. All going towards maintenance fees, and paying other players for resources and other medics for medical components.

i think people here have forgotten that tips dont only mean money...

I have gotten free weapons, packs, cheap harvesters, free wind generators, resources, a ton of things...

Don't just think in money term.

My father is a doctor in real life and some of the benefits he reaps are so incredible more than the money he makes. I can name a ton of stuff he gets outside of money...

So next time u are healing an engineer, maybe he'll remember that u didnt nag for tips or heal for money and they'll remember that when you need a harvester....

Greed greed greed, show me the money attitude aint gonna cut it...

I tip for each heal. I have a set amount of credits which I pay per healed wound (for medics and addtionally BF for entertainers).

So if someone uses a A on me and heals me for 12 wounds, he gets 24 credits from me. If he heals for 42 he gets 84 credits from me and so on.

I didn't use this system for entertainers in the first place, but after I tipped an entertainer 300 credits at the beginning of his show, it ended up that he stopped dancing very very often with several seconds pause inbetween. So I do only tip for each heal. I have more work but so does the healer.

When multilpe medics heal me, it's a little bit difficult to tip each time, but it's the only fair way to do so. If the devs ever implement a wound-healing-payment-system,this would be the only acceptable way to go.

i heal anyone i can for exp. When it gets buisy while i am healing someone (asuming i dont' know them) i shout MEDIC FOR HIRE. Those who dont' want to wait usually dig deep in pockets. i'll stop healingthe non payingguy and go to highest bidder. Made 3k in two hours yesterday. i usually make small talk with every patient hoping to atleast get a tip at slower times. Also if you see someone decked out in armor and looks like they got alot of money ask about there destroy mission or there successes. I found they like to brag about there successes and often tip you just for helping them and letting them feel good about themselves.
