Thread: Hats off to the true medics: a testament from a holocron whore

from the very start of the game, i made a firm decision to not get any medic skills whatsoever. Ironically the almighty red pyramid thingy had other things in mind.

although not my ideal career path, the last couple days have given me a new appreciation and respect for those truly devoted to the medic class. those truly committed to keeping their companions alive, not dabbling as an afterthought or using medic as a pit stop before combat medic.

In my few days as a medic and all my healing i haven't been tipped once. That is a sad statement to the community of SWG. Those who keep us up and fighting deserve anything we can spare whether credits or resources.

I can say that i am a frequent tipper, but from now on, no medic will heal me w/o getting tipped

That's all i have to say, keep up the good work.

"walking a mile in someone elses shoes" comes to mind. It usually helps to see things from the other side of the fence. Glad you see what the medics/docs have to live with.

/em hopes my holocrons NEVER EVER say Master Bounty Hunter /cry

Here's my thought on this. Tipping is something you do for someone if they're not doing something for XP. For instance, I am a Novice Medic, but I do not expect a tip from anyone because I'm "paying my dues". It's sort of like working as an intern in an architecture firm. You don't get paid squat, do all the work, but you're also gaining experience in your field. Tipping is a great bonus if you're so inclined to do so, but seriously, you shouldn't expect a tip.

Except you actually get a paycheck and noone sends you home on Friday's with nothing but a 'ty'

Except that they don't expect you to pay out of your own pocket for paper, pencils, ink, chairs and drawing tables.

Except they don't come in with a line of twenty managers standing in your cube and go "can u draw my plan plz"

Novice does not mean slave. Using your logic we shouldn't tip our wait staff in restuarants because they are really students working to do something else and are 'paying their dues'. Tip your service folks. Most will not demand it. Hell - most don't even expect it. But it's a courtesy for them being courteous to you.

I have to say, I've pulled in decent amounts in tips. But I think as long as someone is healing your wounds, you should be gracious. Usually what I make will be from a few out of many, but those few tip well.

I'm a Mon Cal, so I don't think I'll ever pull a combat holocron. Not that I'll ever see one.

I have to say starting up the medic tree myself I'm shocked at how little people tip for heals. I'm 3-3-3-2 right now and have sunk some serious cash into making stim pack factory crates and then using them in the cantina's or wound packs, which I've been using int he med centers. Only once out of several factory crates worth of each, have I been tipped. And that was for 1000cr, which I considered a good tip. I know that prior to becoming a medic I tipped for every heal I got and had thought that most did that. Now I see that I am infact a member of a very small minority and it's making me reassess just who I want to heal for. I'm planning on mastering medic and then going on to master combat medic. I can see healing group members (if I know them) for free, but I think I plan on charging a fee upfront for heals to others I don't know. Of course If I'm grouped on some serious missions, say like on Dath, obviously I'd think it necessary to heal since I'm collecting a portion of the mission payout. But heals on the Tusken trips, or krayt trips, or the squill cave will most def not be for free. I don't know how you medics do it to be honest. Food/chem factories are not free, and neither are the ingredients for stim packs!

I respected you before, but now that I'm commiting to the profession myself, I can't help but feel a little deeper respect for you.

I have a character that is also a novice medic. What happens though is that I cannot be in the med centers healing people becauseI am running missions to buy resources. With these resources I make stim and wound packs. Now because I am out, I also use the med packs -- for no xp. When someone tips me that is extra money to buy more resources or cover the cost of the resources used.

Last night I was in a Med Center doing a lot of heals since,I got DBed on a mission (no money then). However, quite a few of the customers did tip me andI was able to abort the mission. Now, I am trying to find a good location on LOK for a harvester.

I get tipped quite frequently but I never go to med centers and really dont expect tips. I got a droid and I throw heals on everyone around in town if they need it. I get lots more exp than I have gotten sitting in the med center, however since I just run up and throw a heal on you..I don't expect a tip..I'm obviously trying to get exp. I get tipped frequently anyway...but I don't expect it. Now if im in the med center and you came to me...thats a different ballgame..open that wallet a little..

Welcome to my life as a Master Doctor/Master Bio-Engineer .... unless you hand over a completed useable product do not expect a monetary reward ... that way you can be pleasently supprised by the nicer people in the game.

The medic route is a hard one, especially if you are not playing the system. Those were poor days for me.

Myself, I purchased a harvester and grew a business. At the height of my sales, I was pulling in 40k a day on flora (oats, berries, etc). I charged 3cr/unit for most of it. (I do confess that I charged 6cr/unit for Irolium Reactive Gas. The gun market is very lucrative, and I feel no shame is using it for all that it's worth.)

For quick cash, I ran artisan missions between Moenia and Deja Peak. Each way made me 2500cr. I could pull in 7500 to 10,000 per hour, depending on whether I made the shuttle or not.

I still tip well. What else am I going to do with 850k in cash?
