Sorry for ranting here

I don't charge, and I never will charge.
Same with training other people. If they tip me, fine. If then don't, that's fine too.
I'm perma broke and put a ton of time into making my medpacks and stims, but I'll still never charge someone for it. If you're in it for the money, you're going to be disappointed. If you're in it for the money, you're in the wrong profession. I can't think of a game where healers don't get the shaft in terms of money.
But there is one thing you do get from your fellow players that is better than money. You get thier respect, they remember you. I can't count the times in EQ when a cleric needed help and an army of people they've helped before came to the rescue. I also can't count the times I've seen clerics who charge for thier services in trouble who have had a LOT harder time getting the help they needed.
If you're a healer who wants to make it a business ...people will remember and they will avoid you when they need help. And they will have something else to do when YOU need help. I know I avoided the business healers.
It's definitly silly to request that medics don't charge for healing. That's going to throw the whole game off. How much of a tip to you expect? Most of these people doing destroy missions and selling their wares in the bazaar don't have TONS of cash (i'm speculating here). I heal for free all the time. When I get a tip for 100-250, that's nice... but if I had to survive off that, there's no way I'd ever save up any credits.
Personally, I loathe surveying. I can see the benefit of gathering your own materials, however I'd rather just buy 1000 units of X in the bazaar... then heal people for free with the stims I make from those. I look at it as I'm buying medical experience.
The economy in SWG is still not very stable. Demanding tips as your only form of income is going to delay stabalization in the economy.
KTHXBYE
