Thread: Why everyone should tip medics more....

I agree with the original poster. A bit of backround on my character:

Iam *not* a medic, I am primarily an architect who has a minimal level of medical expertise. Just enough so that I can run an occasional mission or two, and do a bit of emergency healing (which I need a lot of cause I'm a lousy fighter). I have enough xp to gain a few more levels in the medical profession but don't really want to persue it, because I'd rather use them elsewhere.

Now, here are my recent experiences in the hospital on Dearic, Talus, server Bria:

There are generally *no* doctors when I go there, but a bunch of battered warriors sitting around. All I want to do is go there, get healed, and leave a doctor a big tip, and get back to what I was doing when I got my butt kicked (probably visiting a harvester) but suddenly I find myself "the doctor" even with my real limited skills and even more limited medical supplies. People start begging me to heal them, so I do my best, and after half an hour or so (that I didn't really want to spend there)am usually able to heal health and action wounds on myself + 2 or 3 others. I generally have to craft 4 or 5 medical pacs while I'm in there (since my skills are limited and my pacs aren't very good), spending reasources I'd rather be spending on other things.

But the real kick in the pants of all this is... I've gotten a *grand total* of $100 in tips, and I've probably healed a dozen warriors in the last few days alone. Most of the people who beg for healing simply go "afk" and don't even have the decency to stick around.

On Coronet the other day, I was lucky enough to find a master surgeon when I was *really* beat up, and he instantly healed me, was very polite, and sent me on my way. I was very greatful for his service, and promptly issued a 1k tip, with a very big thank you for his time.

Grrr... .I definitely feel for you doctors and see why this is a very tough and frustrating choice of professions. Personally, I don't know how you guys stand it, and I guess many of you ultimately choose not to. Anyhow, good luck with you all.

I must disagree with the statement that there are no independently wealthy medics. I started as a medic, but learned other professions and I knew that my advancement as a medic depended on resources and money. So, I become an expert pistoler, bought some armor and started hunting quests for 1500 a piece. I then built a farm with minerals, water, power, chems and food. It didn't take long, all the while taking time out to go to the hosp or the cantina to heal. Now, I have more than enough minerals ( I can even sell for money), I have loads of money and I can hold my own in a fight, plus heal anyone anywhere with my surg droid. I am just waiting on apprentice points for Master Medic. My only advice is not to limit yourself with you character. This game is not about how fast you can get to Master Medic or Master Doctor. And please, don't spam ppl with "TIP YOUR MEDIC". It only pisses them off and you don't get crap.

Part of the reason you see fewer docs in the hospital is that even one Doc with decent stuff can heal an entire ward much quicker than a whole army of novice medics with woundpack A's. (like the early days after release... oh the horror).
