Thread: Medics putting themselves out of buisness?

So, up till now, there has been a desperate need for medics and wound healing in hospitals. The queues were deep and th wait was long.

Today however, at the Mos Entha med center, we had more medics than patients. And the full time mec center rats sat arround waiting to gang heal the next person to run through the door, so they could run back out in no time flat. Part of this is due to increased wound treatment speed as more medics get away from /tendwounds (blech) and on to medpack a's and especially b's.

For those with some experience in Beta, what happens? Do medics just end up spending more time crafting or out on the road? Do the novices get tired and go back to their primary profesions?

Just curious how the dynamics work out in the long run.

I'm a medic/rifflemen and in flury, talus, dearic it was extremely slow threw the day. About two expert medic's and a few prospering ones and a macroing dancer threw the most part of the day. I'm hoping the more battle oriented planets will have better business. Saving coins and deciding on a harvester for med equipment or moving to corriella or tatoonie for more busted up people to experiment on.

I think I'm putting all the other medics out of business. I'm a novice doctor and I can heal from 70-200 wounds (without doctor medpacks since its broken). What should I do? Do I stop healing? Make crappier medpacks so I heal slower? Join groups instead of staying in the Medical Center? What do you think I should do?

I find it amazing you advanced so fast as a doctor. Good job. Must have taken alot of patience and powergaming. Doctor seems like the worst paying proffesion you could possibly take. i have a hard time finding credits to advance my skills. I mean think about it. you get around 15k for constructing a house wich takes the same time as being a doctor. when was the last time you got a 15k tip? hehe

In the long run, what *should* happen is the medics go out into the field. The medic profession is not really geared towards wound healing, it is geared towards damage healing (diagnostics and first aid affect Damage amount and speed without affecting wound amount or speed). Doctors are the true wound healers. If business is really slow in the med center, you could try going out into the world in big groups. The rez ability is very much needed out there, and you can easily heal everyones wounds in a camp. And since you have to be a master medic to be a doctor, you should be able to do some massive damage healing.

On a side note, what actions give you doctor experience as opposed to medic experience? Just using the higher medicines? Orrrrr what.

Well, at the moment in Mos Eisley hospital this is not an issue. I don't know what it will look like down the road, but for now we can't remotely keep up with the number of patients.

Last night I logged in at 5pm EST and started healing wounds. There was one other medic in the hospital at that time aside from me and about thrirty!!! patients waiting...most with massive wounds! I worked on patients non-stop all night until 12midnight EST when I logged and the patient base stayed in the twenty to thirty range all the time. At one point for several hours we had a Doctor and about six medics in there healing and we STILL couldn't keep up! It was insane... I healed until I was eaten up with blackrot on my focus and willpower. When I finally logged I was almost not regening mind at all and my healing was severly lessened because of my own battle fatigue and mind wounds.

That was my first night in the Mos Eisley hospital...but friends told me it was like that every night...which is why I can there from Naboo.

By the time there are enough doctors to clear out the patients here and put themselves out of business...I will likely be happy for the rest! Hehe...

I dont think we are putting ourselves out. Its jus a matter of where you are really and when you are on. There have been times when there were too many medics around and others when there are too many patients around. If you want really good med xp, find out where all the hardcore fighters are xping and then set up in the nearest med center. You'll get more patients then you can handle. Tips are good too.

On other hand you can always go to a less popular city, you might be the only medic there and although there aren't many people around, since your the only healer, you get great xp.

I also think medics tend to stay in the cities too much. I was getting incredible xp in hunting groups using my stim As mostly, stim B in a pinch and i was constantly healing and getting way better xp then in the med center and working on combat skills. I dont think enuff medics go outin the field.

My take is that Medic is not for the faint of heart. It's the most damnable skill ladder to climb and the only thing worse is the Doctor skill ladder.

That said, I think as the game wears on attrition will curtail the number of medics and doctors around. Once some reach the master level, if they ever do, will start another skill ladder. Most, I think, if they want to specialize will go for combat medic. Of all the elites or all skills, I think Doctors will be by far the fewest.

If it's slow at the medic center, head to the cantina, join a hunt, do a mission for some money, or survey for some materials. Always something you can do to advance yourself.

Hi,

Its like this in all games. Everyone wants to able to heal their buddies, and they start on the Medic path. It'll slow down in a few months, and the Medic won't be saturated, and if I'm wrong, I don't care anyway. To be honest, the reason I chose medic was to assist my group.

If it goes like beta yes the med centers will become empty. Then everyone will complain because there are never medics in the med center.

You are absolutely correct about doctors being the med based profession, but i dont see that as so, since the delay between wound heals is so long, so unless the delay of the wound healing of a doctor comes very close to the delay of the stim packs, even doctors will find that field work is better xp than med center work.

New medics will always have ways to get xp. There is so much combat xp out there to be made. You just have to find it. So point your new medics to the popular survey areas. Healing surveyer us a incredible way to make xp. Or they can go and join lower hunt grps. There will always be opportunities for people to make xp. You jst gotta know where to go.

As i have stated in another thread, my only concern is that because of the speed of stimpacks compared to the delay on wound heals, many people will find field works is better xp as well as combat xp and more and more people will work outside the med center creating a lack of med center based healers.

Wow, I came here today to post just what you wrote in the last reply. I don't see any reason for me to stick around the med center healing wounds. People complain that they have to wait, rarely tip and it takes forever to heal bad wounds. Its soooo much easier to heal damagein the field or cantina and get no grief and faster xp of the same type. I just don't see how anyone expects us to choose the med center long wound healing time until we become a doctor and are able to do it efficiently.

Elenora,

Actually I expect that is primarily what will happen. Those looking to gain fast XP will probably get away from the med-center, or possibly run split time between the Cantina and the Med Center. Those looking for a more social experience will likely just sit in the Med Center anyway, simply because that is the game they enjoy. The difference in XP really isn't so massively huge between doing that and getting into the field that a more social or laid-back med center medic would feel like they simply were not advancing, IMHO.

This really is a social game in many aspects. The questions could also arise about Master Doctors and Master CMs. What will we do when we get to that point and healing simply means absolutely nothing to our professional advancement? Will we simply stop healing? Of course not, butI expect there will be many who at that point will want to get wanderlust and explore the wonders of the galaxy, or even just change profession to try something different. But i think there will also be caretaker Doctors who may be the kind that enjoy mentoring and tutoring of new medics, generally hanging around the med center and providing training as needed and healing to help out where needed or for extra cash. Some may make healing a business by opening their own med center in a potential player city area.

There are just sooo many options available and so many factors involved that I find it really hard to truly predict with any kind of certainty how things will work outand what patternthe will finally settle into. They may never settle into a pattern, for that matter, just as par of the ever-changing nature of the game world and of new players trying to shape the galaxy as they wish to play in it.
