Thread: A poll of opinions: Medic macro

I was just curious how the medic community would react to a player sitting all day in the med center running a macro to heal people while they were AFK. What if it were more than a player but a large part of the medic community? (This isn't hypothetical, such a macro exists)

That would take the fun out of the profession. Half the fun is sitting in the Med Center talking to other people while you grind your med XP or crafting XP. True in some professions you need macros (Artisan, Entertainer etc.) but I think it detracts from the medic profession. But there are people out there that just grind XP to get to the perks of the Master level while missing part of the game. These are also the people that are crying “where is the game content”. Game content is not necessarily uber loot and epic quests. So Medic macros, if possible, are a bad you'll never see me running one.

well seeing as how im a Master CM, you wont see me running one either

I probably get mor XP from throwing one area stim in a big combat group, than this guy gets with his macro during half an hour of AFK healing...

And just why does it detract from the medic profession and NOT detract from the entertainer profession? I would argue that it detracts from the entertainer profession more, since medics still have field work, entertainers are left with nothing but cantinas full of AFK people.

And just to clarify something, I do not support the use of macros in an unattended matter for any profession. Just search on my posts if you need proof on that. However, it is exactly this attitude "Entertainers need macros, they aren't as important" that bothers me. I will write a macro for every profession I can until people realize how annoying this is for their profession and a fix is required, if it comes down to that. However, all I am doing right now is getting an opinion. Obviously I hit a sore spot.

Just have to be creative and think outside the box. I'm not going to post how at the moment though. As I said I don't condone such activities.

I think what he/she is refering to is a bot. I dont know SWG stand on bots but they were common in AC.

Creatures aren't tough enough? Should we put new ones in? No, let's make the existing creatures tougher.
FS system? Let's make it a grind.
Droid Engineers (or other applicable profession) broke? Ignore the problem, people will quit being DEs then there won't be a problem to fix.
People in the forums complaining? Ignore them, every game has forums full of complainers...and we have their money anyway.
What do all of the above have in common? They are all easy solutions.
SWG is the devs' toy...and they're not sharing.

Sadly, the position is that as long as no 3rd party tools are used, there is nothing wrong with it. Meaning if you can write a bot using the in game macro system, you're fine. Just no 3rd party tools.

Now that is a EULA violation that can get him banned. But there was someone on Chilastra for awhile that did it using only the in game macro system, which according to CSRs is "legit".

A lot of people take the section of the EULA saying "no unattended play" as meaning no AFK macros. I don't believe that SOE would ever punish anyone for doing it, however, because it's so commonplace, especially with the attitude that it's needed for entertainers.

My opinion on this macro:

"It's crap, and people should play the game." Is how I would state it.

Grinding, bleh. Don't do it, don't plan to.

I remember seeing something like this.

In the Theed Cantina there was a combat medic named Iaodor or something like that. He was AFK and had a macro for throwing area effect stims in the middle of the cantina, healing all of the entertainers. This prevented any unskilled medics (myself included) from getting any exp by healing the entertainers. I sent him a tell, thinking maybe he was there but forgot to remove the afk, but i got no response except for the afk response that said he was at work and to contact him later. A few hours later Iwent back to the cantina and he was on the floor dead, not having moved an inch from last time I had seen him. I don't know how he died, or who killed him, but I am glad that someone did.

Whie afk entertainers are troublesome sometimes, they don't have the potential to prevent other entertainers from getting experience like in the aformentioned situation.

As for macros, while they are great tools for helping with crafting exp they are unnecessary for getting medical experience. One of the best ways to get med exp fast is to get some decent stims and team up with a bounty hunter, especially one who uses a carbine. They are medical experience gold mines!

haha, he probably got a TEF from healing a overt in the cantina... and then someone just came along at some point and whacked him... funny.
