::Begin Vent

I can't remember who said it but it went something like this: Do people expect to get weapons for free, how about armor? Then why do they expect healing for free.

This couldn't be more correct. I decided to see who would be willing to pay me 1 credit for each wound point I healed. So I log in to my server Kettemoore and start yelling out "I will heal all non mind wounds for 1 cr per wound point healed." No takers, thats ok, off to the cantina... no takers in there either. So I say I will heal for tips, still most people say "No Thanks." Fine at least they were polite. I should point out I only talked to those who had 75+ wounds on an individual bar thinking they might want those taken care of. So I get lucky a few times meet some good people and get tipped much better than if they had paid 1 cr per wound point. Then comes along a person who has litterally 3/4ths of his Health and Action bars black. I walk up and say "Want your wounds healed?" He responds "Yes please" Then I counter "Would you mind giving me a small (and I swear I did use the word small) tip?" Then he laughs! So I ask "Do you think your gun should be free? Why should your healing be free?" And he runs off. So out of pure frustration with people I type: /yell Medics need money too!

All of the sudden I am hit with a tell from a player named Bobuck. He tells me a tactic of healing then asking for money. Which I have done plenty... so I make the smart mouth remark: "Yeah I tried that : ) Now I am broke and out of meds." We pass a few more tells back and forth and then wham a 20000 cr tip! For Nothing! Only with the comment "Well keep being nice to people."

::End Vent

Alright sorry about the long post, the point is Thanks to people like Bobuck I will continue to be a medic. But we as medics need to do something about this blatant abuse of our skills. Building good meds is expensive. I realized today as some of my friends discussed having credits I could only dream about that while we split our missions equally I burn money like crazy on the meds to keep us alive. That is something I need to deal with with them. But as a mass group we need to do something about this. A strike? Probably a bit drastic. But who knows. I would love to see what the Galaxies world looked like without Medics handing out stims like they were made from dirt. Imagine teaming with entertainers, who are equally mistreated, and seeing how all the rough and tough fighters do with out free heals... it would be at least an interesting experiment.

Again sorry about the length of that but having played probably relitively little compared to some I have found the treatment of medics as unbelievable. Maybe everyone I encounter is from Canada and expects free health care but I am from the good old USA where we pay out our butts for it : )

We live in a world where people feel they have to pay people to be allowed to train them. XP is the only real commodity; think yourself lucky people don't charge *you* to let you heal them.

Most people's perception of Medics is probably along the lines of 'well, I'm giving them xp, what more do they want?'

I agree that getting paid is rare when doing healing. I know that I myself don't NEED any more Med xp right, as I have maxed Master Medic and my other target for now is Master CH. I know that if many are aiming for the Doctor or Combat medic trees then they have very few points they can invest in marksman in any form, So how are they suppose to make money if they can' t really run missions?

Stimpacks cost money and teh very same people that we heal Usually can go out and take a 10-12k paying mission easy while medical is doing good to tackle a 3-4k pay misision due to the dificulty being to high for our combat skills necassarily lower than non - medical trained.

Sadly I find that except for the Humanitarian issueof not letting the guy die,it is necessaryto hunt alone or in groups of my friends where we tend to reciprocate by swapping other needed materials such as my weapons, pet stims, housing, etc. so I can survive. I think I have been paid a total of 3 times for healing someone, for a total of Maybe a max of about 2k credits all the way up the Medic tree.

I just don't think that people consider the costs o the playerof the medical proffesion, in any form and sadly Entertainers/Image designers face the same difficulties.

Here's an idea for paying medics. Have a system where medics would get money from the accounts (bank and cash-on-hand) of those whom they are healing/buffing. The more they heal/buff, the more they get paid. The amount paid per heal would increase as the medic/doctor progresses up the profession. Therefore, you couldn't just shoot up one tree in order to get more money, you would have to complete one level to get a higher "salary". This plan would also ensure that doctors get paid more than medics, seeing how they probably have a factory to make their Stim-D's.

There should also be a first come, first served policy of healing where the first person to heal someone's wounds would get exclusive rights to that patient. However, you can heal only one person at a time.

Finally, medical droids should also operate as small-scale factories. I just don't have enough money to buy and maintain a factory, power source, private crafting station (most likely a droid), and find a way to get resources in order to get higher-level meds and stims. Therefore, droids should be able to take the place of factories, buton a smaller scale. They would only be able to make a set amount of crates per day, and they would require maintenance costs, just not as much as a factory. I'm sure there are some details that need to be ironed out from all of these plans, but I think this could work. I'm not asking for it, I'm demanding it.

I agree! As a Noob in the game I am finding it very difficult to earn $$ and keep my meds up with all the healing I am doing. I love the game but am very bad and running missions. I notice that most people so far havent tipped for the healing and I realize also that Its not required but it would be nice if people remembered to tip there medics for there healing.

The only time you should heal others is if you need the experience. Otherwise it is a money loosing proposition. Become a master doctor and make money selling stims, it is the only way.

Here is a simple way to make players pay. First you are require to buy a "Medical Insurance Policy". This policy will pay any medical professions that provides healing or tending of damages to a players HAM. When a player runs out of credits he/she buys another policy again.
It's very simple... Yes, I know that it can get complicated but it doesn't have to be. This is an idea so, what's yours? Remember now, that the medics can still provide free services if they chose to do so.

I feel very sorry for you, medics. I am a wookiee and ALWAYS need healing, so I tend to pay 1000 as a minimum even for very minor wounds. (I pay very graciously to those travelling medics who heal me around town or at starport)

I appreciate what you do, there are always going to be those who don't respect healers (of all kinds) but as long as I have at least 1000 credits, you will always be tipped.

Thank you to all the medics!

And P.S. I am the one who buys all your stim Bs... and I STILL need your services!

I want to post a story on this topic here. I was in the cantina on Eisley because the Med Center was empty and there was one healer there, we chatted and I healed her. I went AFK to check the boards and when I came back I checked my chat box. Not much there, a goodbye to the customers and a tip to me. 5,000 credits. Wow. I thanked her profusely (sorry if I spelled that wrong).
The moral of the story is, there are always going to be two types of people in this world, those who never tip saying "you get med XP anyway." and the really nice, over tipping type. I have yet to meet someone in the middle.

That about sums it up. Oh, and to all non-tippers out there, when we all run out of meds because you wouldn't give enough to support us, I'm going to drag your incaped body into a Baz Nich's lair. /evilgrin

When group hunting, I try to get meat from them for healing. A group of a few people can harvest a heafty amount of meat fairly quickly. It offsets the cost of being a doc/medic quite a bit since it's (meat purchases) the biggest money sink for me.

As long as people grind medic, there will be free healing available. Why pay when it's free. It stinks, but that's the way it is.
