Thread: XWING vs TIE FIGHTER

if you remember the xwing series: xwing, tie fighter, xwing vs tie fighter....they were about a million times more fun than this junk we got in space

don't get me wrong, the art is wonderful...but the mechanics are horrible, I got JTL right when it launched, mastered pilot within a few days and refuse to waste my time with the crapfest that goes on in the skies above our planets...it's just not enjoyable, other than the artwork.

in pve there is no balance....enemy ships have far more defense than any player controlled ship, and their weapons are underpowered except for the high tier, larger ships, which are extremely overpowered given that they still have excessive defense

in pvp there is no fun....my ship takes out ANY opposing ship with two salvo's from my cannons, if they get the jump on me when my backs turned, same result in reverse

the problem lies in the fact that the components available are not ship specific....if you go back and look at the previously mentioned games you will see that an awing is faster than any xwing or bwing or assault gunboat or regular tie.....you will see the regular ties outmanuevering ywings....you will see the increased firepower of a bwing over most other ships to compensate for loss of mobility and speed.

there are other ways to make the game fun and challenging than giving npc ships increased defense and 100% accuracy....pve and pvp need to be balanced....the fast ships need to be the fastest...the heavy hitters need to be the heavy hitters....xwing vs tie fighter was mastercraft...still more enjoyable today than JTL....there is so much untapped potential in JTL.....please....fix it....give us a fun game......make it so the best component for a particular ship is a maximum of twice the effectiveness of the worst...give ships their own roles, and allow them to excel at those roles...please....fix it

Yes! I agree completely. I posted a thread a week or so ago basically explaining the illogical discrepancies between PvE combat and PvP combat, as well as how PvP is better implemented in other space combat games. I was flamed straight out of my own thread.

The fact of the matter is, JTL is probably the only space combat game that most people here have ever played and therefore do not notice the glaring issues with PvP. Anyone who has played XvT or XWA would long for having that feel reproduced in JTL. You makea good point with the ships in JTL being pretty homogenous, whenthey really need more to be more differentiated. Right now the only real difference between a Y-Wing and, say, an A-Wing is the amount of mass they have.

For me, the biggest issue is the 1-2 shot PvP kills. I'm pretty much boycotting PvP until this is balanced, although I doubt it ever will be since very few people are clamouring for it.

Well...not to mention handling, weapon loadout, ship profile...

I like this PvP. And yes, I've played other space sims.

My A-wing is faster then my other ships. Tier 5 TIE's do outmanouver my Y-wing. My B-Wing does have the increased firepower to compensate.

It's called Reverse Engineering, look into it. Nothing wrong with PvP either, most of my fights last longer then 5 minutes these days.

if your pvp is lasting 5 minutes or longer than 30 seconds for that matter, you and your opponent are both functionally retarted

...also, if you have problems spelling, you may very well be Functionally Retarded. (Although I prefer mentally challenged, or mentally deficient or lacking the ability to comprehend and function at a level that is commensurate with your age.)

I disagree. I've had quite a few challenging dogfights in deep space that ran well over a minute.

With weapon cap to sheild shunt and other "tricks" it's quite possible to trade a few shots.

If you and the enemy pilot are GOOD at dogfighting PVP can last much longer than the 10 seconds that many people say is the norm for JTL PVP.

It's all about situational awareness.
If you know where you are in relation to the enemy, dodging fire isn't that hard to do.

Or straight to the point, if you get killed in 10 seconds, learn to fly.

You, my friend, are demonstrating a clear lack of understanding about the space game. That is to say, fly a little in Deep Space, then come back here and post your results. Against a good opponent in a good ship - if you're any good, PVP fights can drag on for a looong time.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and do a search for space PvP. There are lots of threads on the issue here and in the Pilot forum. In fact, you'll probably find some nice tactics to help you out.

have you solo'd a star destroyer? I have...you have top 5%best on servercannons and shields? I do

have you played xwing? have you played tie fighter? I have...JtL is a joke in comparison

I was master pilot within days of launch...again...if pvp for you is lasting longer than 30 seconds you or your opponentaredoing something wrong

What server are you on mate? I'd love a shot at you.

No one is going to take you seriously for bragging about soloing the ISD. Newb Aces are doing that.

No one cares about your top 5% cannon and shields, whatever those are.

This isn't X-Wing vs. TIE, it's a different game.

Skill actually matters. If your battels are running a mere 30 seconds than either you're not fighting good opponents and they're dropping too fast, you're dying and not telling us, or you really don't have PvP experience and you're making all this up.

Hop over to the Pilot's forum and do a search for PvP, should be some good reading for you.

sunrunner

i don't give a damn, wasn't bragging

the only ones who dont care are those who have 0 mass components (which are going away)

a much worse game

who catches someone in a deathroll first does matter, that is skill, and it's how it is in r/l, however, in rl there aren't npc's who arebased on COMPLETELY different physics

nothing I don't already know, reading doesn't change the fact that pvp and pve in JtL is a joke compared to xwing vs tie fighter
