I was a beta tester for JTL and I'm very concerned about the current state of space PvP. I was a big fan of Xwing vs TIE Fighter and Freelancer and other such space sims, and it seems from what I've seen in the beta that JTL has gone away from the traditional space sim in PvP. 2 or 3 laser blasts in a head to head skirmish or 1 missile is not exactly what I'd call fun...More like who has less lag and can get the shots off first. Are the devs tweaking PvP in space at all? A 75% damage reduction like in ground PvP perhaps? Anything? Any response is greatly appreciated!

Well first is this due to your shield classs, I haven't played yet (that's a whole other story for the uK ..but there we go) So I don't know the full ins and out what you can do...

Second well yes in xwing vs tiefighter etc you could powermanage shields etc, thus lasting longer..in this I think it's more unmercifull like what you see in the films (i've heard the falcon like ship can withstand many hits..) and such this is alike to say IL2 sturmovik online, a few shots is enough to do damage...of course that is a simulator and goes indepth as to what shot damaged what... So damage being done this way I guess isn't such a suprise

Third, well with lag most games are not designed now aroujn dlag issues, in the age of broadband and up they don't have much a concearn for lag, that doesn't go to say thhough that sony isn't suffering from hideious lag on the ground and above, but that's mroe to do I think with server issues and coding, and not the games innitial design itself. You can't make a ship more damage friendly for lag issues...

Well that’s the whole issue with Twitch type games (And remember thats what the people begged for while many of us wanted pilot skills to play a factor like on the ground game.) You are either going to haveHigh ping wins, or Low Ping wins depending on if they use cone of Fire (Ala Planetside) or Area of Fire (Most FPS games) either way someone is going to be complaining no matter what.

I'm a Dial up user and PVP for me isn't that bad, but woe be unto me if they find out I'm on dial up..all I hear is "WTFBBQ u cheatin is teh suk" (And btw where the hell did all the l337 d00ds come from all of a sudden??) SOE knew it would have a lot of complaints of this nature if they went twitch, but decided to do it anyway.

They gave the people who complained what they wanted, and now many of them are still complaining…go figure.

When I played Quake II and III, I was within the top 10 players, according to PlanetQuake dot com. Two people in the top 5 would consistently own me. They were good. Guess what?

They were on dial-up with constant lag. They learned how to adjust their timing to make up for it, and totally owned.

So, lag will only force you to be more skillful, not make it impossible to play.

Battlefront you could say is a twitch game.

Then why can't this be.

Well because SWG is suppose to be a MMORPG, not a shooter. The thing is.... people are treating JTLS like a separate game when it was intended to be another facet of the ground game. Here is yetanother pitfall the developers hasn't taken into account the ground game being abandoned by those who want a RPG and the FPS crowd getting bored with JTLS after a couple months….. Result ghost town servers.

SOE really should stop testing the political wind before they make big decisions. It gets them in trouble every single time. More people would have stayed around if they gave us a non-twitch Space expansion with a truly dynamic in depth mission system. (Then they could have started the major overhaul of the completely boring broken mission system on the ground.) PVP is going to be fun for most for about a month then most people won't bother with it. SWG longevity both in space and on the ground is in crafting and missions Novice to elder game.

Much Revamps in your future I see.

We'll see. So far it seems the vast majority love JTLS, myself included.

Actually i think its quite brilliant.

A MMORPG with not only total rpg (ground) and mostly fps (space)

I think its actually a great idea.Beside it might bring fps players into MMORPG's

Other than planetside and a handful of others, most MMO are rpg anf not fps.

Having both in 1 game is like having your cake AND eating it without any remorse

There does need to be a PVP damage reduction.

Considering you're a master and can have the best crafted components

Mark V Shield = 1800-2000 HP

Mark V Armor = 1300-1500 HP

so combined you have 3500 hp on the front and 3500 hp on the back before components and Chassist start to take damage

Experimental Blaster does 1800-3500dmg per shot at about 50% reduction to shields and armor (Ion does up to 80% to shields, and Disruptor 80% to armor)

So if an Xwing has 2 blasters, he's doing 3600-7000 damge per shot, if both are blasters its about 1800-3500 actuall damage, one max hit and your entire shield and armor are gone, second hit hits for full damage (no reduction) and you're toast.

Either Shields need to be seriously beefed up, or a PVP damage reduction needs to be implemented

yes and this is ...jump to light speed....a space shooter. where your direct movements and pressing effect staright away whats going on.

Hence it is a shooter. A MMORPG would be eve online.

Yes and people thought that putting the Major Highways in Boston underground was a good idea too...look how that worked out. The fact is most of those who were saying how wonderful it is/will be isn't around now or won't be around in the next couple months. Its like bringing D&D and MTG players together it just doesn’t work. FPS players have the attention span of a Gnat on Jolt Cola, and RPG players are not going to go play Bang, Bang your dead. So by (Once again) trying to be all things to all people SOE fails to please either, and we the long time player pays for it, just like we are paying for all of the Jedi mistakes they have made, just like we are paying for having to endure the broken/boring ground mission system. Perhaps SOE should try something like focus groups before unleashing their theories on the paying public.
