There are scavengers who try to loot the precious valuables left by expatriated Alderaanians; there are salvagers searching for the fabled warship, Another Chance, which carries Alderaan's weapons from when it disarmed. It also makes an interesting transfer point for cargo for both the Alliance and for smugglers.I'd say it'd make a great space-only zone.
Anyone else thinking the "Another Chance" would make a good space-dungeon? I forsee many quests leading to it's discovery by the player and a multi-level dungeon with droid guardians(not SBDs, use some EU droids), and a good chance to loot some tasty weapon componants.
Oooooh bloody bad reading! At first Alderaan's remains sounded interesting. Now it sounds like something we need to have.
It's a pity, really, that SWG is an MMORPG: an aspect of other Privateer-like games I've always enjoyed are those Macguffins that sound so, so interesting but never seem to turn up. The sort of thing that you find little bits and pieces of stuff related to, but are never able to solve or track down. Sadly, that doesn't fly well in a game like this.
So I guess I'd have to settle for a dungeon, since a POI-type thing that might spawn the occassional odd and interesting weapon part would just get camped.

Or... not.
At best (from a mining perspective), what's left of Alderaan would've become an asteroid field or belt more or less following Alderaan's orbit. At worst, it's a dust cloud (or belt). But there's no chance that the remains left the system.

well, you could suppose that the planet chunks found themselves orbiting other large bodies, so maybe this Alderaan area would actually be by a sun....and adds some danger lol. Or you could the easy thing which is renaming some asteroids "Alderaan remains" and randomly spawning them, and thye would have some nice stats w/ em lol.

I may be mistaken or have this mixed up with something else, but I think that the debris field of Alderaan is now known as the Graveyard and native Alderaanian people that were off-world at the time of it's destructionvisit it once a year as a memorial. Would be pretty cool to see...

Hehe, why not? Imagine all those rare planetary core metals just floating out there in space, gathering dust and....becoming dust. Since this is all we see in the movies, I think I need to add a little more to make it more interesting.
Lets say that there were shipyards, ships and stuff trying to escape on the other side of the planet, not wanting to risk a confrontation by going anywhere in the direction of the Death Star. Therefore, all the ships and spacestations have become junk floating among the asteroid debris. Perhaps you could tractor beam in still solid Magseal containers and the like floating in the junkyard. Remains of other ships that tried to harvest the asteroids could also be floating in the debris. What do you think?

if memory serves correctly, all of alderaan's remains are part of a graveyard
the entire thing is called the "Graveyard"
(it's in some of the books)
people come and jetison gifts and things to honor the dead
i don't think it would be very polite to take stuff from that place lol ![]()

The remains of Alderaan are still in the system, and do make up a very dense asteroid field called the Graveyard.
Alderaanians return there on occassion. In fact, they even call it the Return. Most Alderaanians (exception being "renegade" Alderaanians like Tycho Celchu) follow a ritual involving leaving memorials for the family and friends lost on the planet when the Death Star blew it up.
