Hopeful implement: space mining.

Cargo ships - to transport mining commodities as well as other types of cargo.

Asteroid mining installation - to mine resources (similar to mining installations planetside).

Player owned space stations - to protect asteroid mining installations and cargo ships from pirate attacks.

If all of those factors are implemented, then this will truely be the best game ever!

Eve-Online implemented asteroid mining very well. Although it uses no harvesters so you have to always watch out for those pirates out in deep space . Truely a great game for those that can't wait for SE.

Well got to be careful not to destroy theplanetbased resource gathering, but if it was resources that couldnt be obtained on the planets like special asteriod minerals and ores, or perhaps gases from some stellar eye candy could be viable.

Course that also means driods or space suits...

Ummm EveOnline was eye candy but it was not a great game, it could have been, but the promise didnt live up to the release. As a noob now in that game its in space no one knows you exist, unfortunately the sails have set for that MMO, I dont blame the Dev Team, probably the hardest working Dev TeamI have ever witnessed in action, but the Publishers screwed them over big time.

I read somewhere that this won't be implemented because it would mess with the ground based economy. Got to keep the ground game alive somehow once JTL hits

Actually, as long as the resources are exclusive to space, it will not cause a crash in the terrestrial economy. Perhaps it may cause a recession, but it will stabilize in a few months after being implemented. It would be a shame if JTLS was only about dogfighting.

I seem to remember them already having stated that it is ... dogfighting and giving SOE an ability to keep calling it Star Wars, and not Planetary Wars ...

I think you missed my point-of-view. I would like JTLS to also have stuff to do in space, not on a planet, besides dogfighting.

I didn't miss anything. I'm saying that I think SOE has already proclaimed that the Space Expansion was meant to add "twitch" gaming (dogfighting, etc.) to invite a larger audience to SWG. That's it.

I'm sure there will be other activities to do besides "twitch" dogfighting either during launch or shortly after.

They said thay wouldn't add space mining because it would affect the ground economy, period.

Too bad though, they could have made a new type of ressource only needed for spaceships and only found in space... oh well

Rather then looking to "harvest" in the sense we know it now to be...

Harvesting would be more interesting if we had instrumentation which could scan an asteroid, debris, or celestial object, then tractor it onto your ship - which would then allow it to be broken down.
