Thread: Interceptor vs. Bomber

I was told by a guild member that the Bomber is better than the interceptor in practically every way. He listed a bunch of statistics from a player's guide that made the bomber look better than it in practically every way except in its rotation rate or something. I'd really like to know if this is true since it wouldn't make sense for the makers to design it this way, as I see it. Any replies appreciated, thanks for your time

you can pack it full of good equipment, 2 weapons, missles, but it turns like a hog no matter what engine you put in it

interceptor is very nimble, but very hard to fit anything you want in it

If you can get used tothe TIEBomber'shandling, it'svery good indeed. You'll die a lot less frequently than if you're in an Interceptor or Advanced. A friend of mine used the Bomber all the way to 4444, and he was able to solo the 3rd Storm Squadron Tier 4 mission where you have to kill two gunboats with a large escort at the end, something you could never do solo if you're the TIE Advanced.

Depends on what you're after. Fast and nimble? The Interceptor. Tank? Bomber. The bomber handles like a drunk Hutt on stormy seas in a dogfight (which isn't what it was designed for anyway). In the end, though, it's like comparing apples to throat lozenges.

No, it's not exacly comparing apples to throat lozenges. Bombers can dogfight if you use a good engine with EO 3, not as well as the fighters of course, but enough to get you through the mission.

I was simply comparing them without any additional programs or commands. But you're right.

I soloed the same mission with my advanced. And no I didn't exploit their blind spot. You just have to fly the craft as its meant to be flown.

If you pick the bomber, you will have a harder time dogfighting but you can do it. You will have a much easier time with the bigger ships.

If you pick the interceptor you will make short work of fighters, but you will have to make multiple passes at the bigger ships, dodging their fire at the expense of your aim, and letting your shields recharge between runs.

Since bombers make short work of the big ships, interceptors chew up fighters, and you will probably be grouping to do these missions, just get what your wingman isn't so you guys will be well balanced.

the bomber is slower and less maneuverable than a multiplayer ship, but can absorb damage. If you like getting shot and taking it, then go bomber, if you are a good pilot who can outmanuever his targets go interceptor.

I guess youcan probably solo it with the Advanced if you usegood RE'edcomponentsand call bstrikes. The Advanced is meant to be flown at 85% throttle during dogfight, whilethe bomber is at 50% and it's not as difficult as you think, and all the droid progams make it much easier.

The Interceptor is a gun with an engine.

The Bomber is a Cow with a gun.

If you can live with turning like a slug and relying on buddies to keep your rump from getting roasted, the Bomber is a beast. For soloing, the Interceptor is better. Remember - You can have all the firepower in the world, but if you can't manuver to hit anything with it, it's kind of pointless.

Much of this comes down to equipment and fighting style. If you have the equipment to deck out your bomber, tune it up, then develop the techniques to win dogfights, the bomber is a good choice. The TIE Interceptor is usually easier at Tier3 because you are used to flying a TIE fighter, have all kinds of light equipment, and know how to exploit what you have. The bombers have learning curves, and so aren't as well loved.

That, and bombers steer like a truck.

I had trouble trying to solo first 3 missions on tier 3 on the Storm Squadron using the Interceptor, i almost soloed 2 out of the first 3 but in the end due to just being overwhelmed i grouped to do them which i have no issues with. I then experimented and used a Tie bomber for thelast tier 3 mission and completed it with ease.

If youget the speed just right you can turn quick enough to survive dogfights with faster ships. The 2 guns is also a big help as with the droid commands you do have at this level they hit hard enough to kill most fighters quickly. Include for the higher mass as well and you have no problems fitting heavier shields and armour to help you survive longer in combat. It does need a fast engine though to get the best out of it and mines is currently using a 12k 90 speed engine and also a good looted or re'd capacitor as the drain with 2 guns firing can be high.

It does take a little adjusting to flying one of these but it may handle like a tank turning wise at the wrong speed but compared to the Interceptor it hits like a battleship.

I use both. Depends on what i will be facing and what my wingmen are flying. Balance. But i wouldn't want to be caught dead in PVP with a Bomber...
