Thread: Interceptor vs. Bomber

If you have ever flown a neutral heavy fighter then you will be right at home in a tie bomber. Interceptors are fast and nimble and make a smaller target for your enemy. Bombers are slow cumbersome tanks that are nearly impossable to miss. But they pack allot of fire power and you can load it down with heavy armor and shields. They have both served me well.

Totally. Bombers are for PvE and, especially, for taking out capital ships.

One problem I've noticed with the interceptor: When you are paralell with or at a 90 degree angle to the ship you are fighting and are firing directly at the green dot, your lasers can go around them. The blasters come out at 4 points at the tips of the wings, and this is especially a problem against A-Wings and "skinny ships".

So fire at a slightly askew angle to the enemy and lead/trail the green dot by a bit, and they will serve you well.

Does the Interceptor have convergence problems like the X/B-wing? I was going to buy an interceptor, but the stuff here makes me think the bomber is better, and I'm too poor to aford both... At this point I'm not too interested in PvE, just tryin to get myself up to Pilot Ace, then maybe think about some PvP... Whatdya you guys think?

Yes, it has the same convergence issues as the X-Wing, B-Wing, and Firespray. The Bomber, however, hasthe samehard point for 2 weapons (as does the TIE-Advanced).

If you are chosing between the two, I'd go bomber for PvE. Then, get the Adv at Tier 4 and call it good.

I kept and loved my bomber something fierce. Until I got my Firespray (more mass and much better handling, but it does have that convergence issue, which is fairly easily overcome with proper tactics and use of rolls).

If you can live with turning like a slug and relying on buddies to keep your rump from getting roasted, the Bomber is a beast. For soloing, the Interceptor is better. Remember - You can have all the firepower in the world, but if you can't manuver to hit anything with it, it's kind of pointless.

You can solo Tier3 missions in the Interceptor, but not Tier 4s. TIE Bombers can solo Tier 4 missions better especially after you've certed forlevel 8 components.

I've been soloing Tier4's with my Advanced. The Interceptor is sweet, but it's lack of firepower eventually kills you. That 2nd gun in the Advanced is a huge firepower increase and just too good to pass up.

My only problem with my Bomber is power!!! I really need to shop for a better reactor or do some program trading. Two blasters, two projectiles, and my Tier8 reactor eat up all my power.

Money problems? Take some time away from the empire and goto Yavin IV. Do the "I never liked the cultist" duty mission from beginning to end. Each run has yielded me a little more than 400k each after selling the equipment. A bomber and interceptor hull should cost 300k-400k, your your spending more than that then you are just allowing yourself to be ripped off.

I think its a good idea to have both hulls at your disposal especially if you are flying the story missions solo. Each ship has its strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, its got the convergence problem. Hmm, as off-the-wall as this is, I'd suggest keeping your TIE/INin till you can get the Advanced - get a good group, and run through the tier 3 missions as fast as you can. Intercepter only gives alittle more mass then the IN, so you'd have to pick and choose components but it can be done.

The Interceptor has the convergence problem, but not to the same degree. All four bolts on the Interceptor come from the same gun, so as long as only one of them hits, you'll do full damage. (At least this is how it appears to work.) On some of the other ships with convergence problems, you're bolts are being created by different guns, and thus if you hit with just one bolt, you'll only get the damage from that gun, and not the damage from the second gun that missed entirely. The only real convergence problem the interceptor has is that with small targets its possible for the target to be right in your crosshairs but have the bolts miss and go around it.

Yeah, you definitely needreactor overload 3 or loot a uber reactor. I looteda level 7 with 37+K power and RE'ed the mass down to 15K. Now I can run all level 4 programs without having to worry about reactor any more.

It also helps that the weapon points on anT/Iaren't spaced out as far as those on other ships with perhaps the exception of the X-Wing's tertiary weapons.

I think the bomber is incedible. Playing older games like tiefighter, and xwingvstiefighter, etc., i figured the ship would be terrible. but once i loaded that baby up, and took her for a spin, i was amazed, until i turned. I was like, wut the heck. Then i throttled down a bit, and tried turning, and she spun quite well. Only flaw to that is that you tend to overshoot your target a bit when you rotate. other than that, i love it. i soloed my last tier 3 mission in it
