Great so my YT-1300 has a survivabilty of 6 seconds instead of the regular 5 seconds in a PVP situation...

Hopefully they are just ering on thecautious side in the testing and now that they have seen what good crafted versions are likewill move the stats for these up to actuelly make them worth while.

5M ships ? Please check your mass again, my ship's weight is 500k. I know that when JTL came out some POB ships had 5m mass, but it was fixed.

Check the vendors via the market with search text "YT-1300" and you'll find the 5mil mass ships. They are produced all the time still.

not to ask a stupid question here but, what does POB ship, mean? I've never heard of the term before and its got me baffled to no end. Thankyou

I'm really disappointed in the shields and standard capacitor. Presumably the armor's going to be pretty poor as well.

Everything else has at least some use. Those engines are ludicrously fast, and while it's disgruntling to see they still have atrocious PYR, they're a clear upgrade over the current craftable level 9s.

The boosters are an unqualified upgrade. Not sure whether that post has the accel and top speed reversed, if it's a bug, or they're meant to be that way, but even if they're reversed it's a step up from anything out there, looted or crafted.

The mining capacitor's okay. Better than most RE'd 8s, though it can't stack up to 10s at all.

The guns are going to be better than RE'd level 8 reward guns by a marginal amount. The ones listed were made with max damage upgrades, but if you went with a speed upgrade instead, the DPS is going to beat anything but RE'd 9s and 10s.

Shields follow the same pattern.. better than what's craftable now, beatable by RE'd 10s, marginal upgrade over the RE'd reward 8.

Armor is probably going to be a clear winner over what we've got. I'd guess it'll be in the 2800-3000 HP range, maybe even a bit higher.

I'm pretty ambivalent about this system. Most of the stuff here's not going to be an upgrade for the serious pilots out there. On the other hand, it is going to provide a (relatively) easy source of superior components to those without loads of time and money to spend looting or buying RE'd gear. Basically what we're looking at is level 11 crafted gear which follows the arithmatic progression of the components below it while being outdone by good RE'd stuff a level (in some cases more) below it. In that sense, there's balance, though it's a bit of a bummer that I'm not going to be able to get many better parts out of the expansion.

However, if these stats remain at all near their current values, POB ships will remain grossly underpowered in a number of ways. In terms of a crew : effectiveness ratio, we're looking at ships that require 3-4 people to pack a protection and firepower just above some heavy fighters, though their enormous profile and reliance on comparably inaccurate turret gunners probably nullify any advantage they have there. In terms of PVE, they'll remain a novelty employed for their fun value rather than their role as a support craft, bomber, capital ship killer, or flying fortress, though they'll be a somewhat more useful novelty. In mining, I expect they will actually have the advantage of being able to carry more asteroid resources or whatever. We'll have to see about that. If that's so, they may at least have one serious role in space, which would be a major upgrade over what we've got now.

And when it comes to PVP.. well, at least you won't have to order any coffins for your crew, because you'll still be flying in one.

Clearly the focus is on keeping PVE balanced at the cost of a use in PVP, in which case I see two possibilities: one, that perhaps they're working on another system that will alter PVP but not PVE (such as the often-discussed chassis modifiers suggestion), or two, there are simply no plans at this time to make them viable. I dearly hope the first is the case rather than the second, as the introduction of useful POB ships in PVP would instantly change the face of space combat for the better--though even if there are no current plans, that wouldn't remove the possibility of working on them in the future.


(To answer other questions here, "POB" means "Portalised Object," though it's also sort of slang for "Player On Board." As for the mass on POB ships, it's 5M. I know there are some 500K models out there, but I think that was an early design that was quickly changed to account for the addition of these ultraheavy components we're now seeing in RotW.)

Yeah its sad but true. I truly hope and pray the devs take a good long and hard look at these new elite components and realize that they just arent going to cut it. The reason MP ships are not usable in any serious role, aside from Roleplaying, low level loot farming, or helping a starting pilot get some xp fast is very very well documented in the forums. Essentially you have 3 or more people sacrificing the manuverability, guns, and effectivness of their individual fighters to be in a single ship that has the same identical components (even with the new elite components sadly) and only 2 awkward to weild turrets. In seperate ships the same group of people are infinately harder to hit, have 3-4 times the weapons, AND they got more xp per kill. So it just doesnt pan out to use the MP ships for any serious combat role. Help us out here devs, give the MP ships some love. You took the time to give them new components, with shnazzy new graphics even, give them some stats that actually help in space.


- The damage on the elite guns needs to be doubled at the very least.

- The shield strength needs to be doubled.

- The range of the guns needs to be increased 50%

- We need to be able to reload countermeasures and missiles while in space.
