Thread: Do you enjoy JTL?

No, I don't enjoy JtL at all. I like that combat works reasonably well and I don't have to "buff" my ship to enter space and fight. But the same depth that the ground game has just isn't there.

Once a player becomes a master pilot there is literally nothing left to do.

Space is shallow, empty and boring. I see star destroyers from the ground on dantooine, but when I enter space......nothing.

-Mining

-Smuggling

-Boarding of multipassenger ship while in space

-Space stations that players can walk around in

-Space bounty hunting (npc's)

-Space commerce

-Space factional bases

These are the things we need in space. Space should be just as deep and immersive as the ground game. It's nothing more than a fluff shooter right now. It needs some more MMORPG elements in it. Earth and beyond was deeper than JtL.

Yup, currenly working on my 5th time mastering pilot.

I love earning FP's in space
I love the technical aspects of ships/parts.
I love tinkering with said ship/parts.
I love the loot to RE or sell.
I simply just love flying.
Oh ya, and i like to PvP now and then too

JTL isn't perfect, and ALOT more can be done, but its the best option for old Tie fighter/xwing sim fans out there right now.

I spend a majority of my time playing JTLS. Since mastering the 2nd time and "maxing" out my ship it's been more for helping me out on the ground. I have components in my ship that can only be marginally improved so it's been all about faction and credits.

It get's boring after a couple hours of duty missions or Deep Space gunboat hunting but then there is always the ground game. I try to play SWG as two games and switch back and forth when one or the other becomes tedious.

Helping friends and guildmates level keeps things fresh too.

Nope. Same server, same character. Its easier that way with the master pilot bonus. Doing space missions is a challenge, i solo 95% of everything. Vette included (its easier than you think), and the teir rewards you get are worth saving to RE later.

Yes, very much. Myself and a team of 2-3 guildmates regularly headinto DS hoping to find like groups of Imperial players. We have found then on a couple of occasions and the fights are just a rush. Finding the huge NPC "furballs" is also a huge rush. There have been instinces where 3 of us have been engaged by upwards of 30+ fighters at one time (including Gunboats and Decimators)... and survived. If you hang out just slightly behind the ISD you will see what I mean. DS is a FP farmers' paradise if you are either Rebel or Imperial... make sure to declare before entering.

I know.. primary reason i dropped privateer ace (again) after this last patch. Deep space is awesome for faction points. And oddley enough, despite this, its usually empty.

I serously wonder if this last patch will increase or decrease player pops in deepspace.

On one hand i hope it decreases, more FP farming for me!
On the other hand i hope it increases, more fun!

Do you and your guildes totally prefer space to ground combat?

Also when combat upgrade is on live ,will you still prefer space or will you come down and be more of a ground player?

But i guess this would depend on what kind of effect the combat upgrade makes ,but will it make any difference to you space dudes?

Im a total space case. Master artisan/SW on the ground. So my ground combat skills are less then stellar (*cough* pun intended).

As for my guild... Nord Squadron started as an Imperial Pilot PA, and still is for the most part, although we've opened the doors for RSF privateering recently as well. As of last patch most guildes seem to have taken on a more balanced approach of ground and space, with a couple folks remastering as RSF for kicks. (they saw my Kryat gunship and decided they wanted one )

I love JTL, but I also loved XvT and XWA, which it seems to me a lot of MMORPG players never got into. Having said that, however, JTL is a letdown in some ways _ though few that I didn't know about already.

-- There aren't enough kinds of ships. (Where are the ships from the previous Lucas Arts efforts?)

-- There aren't enough kinds of weapons. (Where are the weapons from the previous Lucas Arts efforts?)

-- I (as a Rebel) can't fly the YT-1300, which everyone should be able to fly.

-- We don't have capital ships (though my yacht and the Nova are quite fun anyway).

-- We can't board NPC capital ships or space stations.

-- We can't mine asteroids and nebulae or otherwise engage in real space commerce.

-- There is little incentive to engage in space GCW PvP as there would be on the ground, where you have player-owned bases that need defending and where the upcoming GCW upgrade will use planetary control systems to make people want to participate even more.

-- There are no factional NPC ships you can control. Yes, Imps can call for a bomber strike and Rebs can call for a reload ship, but other than that, you can't use FP for factional wingmen, for example.

-- There is no integration of space and ground combat. It would be great if you could call in a planetary bomber strike from space. That might actually give players a reason to launch their ships and defend their bases/installations/players. Thus, space superiority and bombing techniques would be born.

-- There is no loot in space besides ship components and no loot on the ground that can be used in space. Why can't you loot a capacitor on the ground and a crystal in space?

-- There is no permanent item decay or total destruction of components. What are you going to do with that Level 10 reactor you've looted after other people have looted thousands of them over the next six months? It's not like they go bad. Without irreversible decay, shipwrights will become like architects ultimately and won't be able to give away their goods. An X-wing chassis will be worth less than a jar of spices. It won't be worth your time to sell them for junk to an NPC.

Even with these concerns, I am confidentJTL will only get better. If you've got the Prima guide, you know they're strongly hinting at space mining operations on the way. The devs also have never backed off of their promises to deliver capital ships. I suspect that also means space stations.

JTL is fun now, but it can only get better.
