-- There aren't enough kinds of ships. (Where are the ships from the previous Lucas Arts efforts?)
-- There aren't enough kinds of weapons. (Where are the weapons from the previous Lucas Arts efforts?)
-- I (as a Rebel) can't fly the YT-1300, which everyone should be able to fly.
-- We don't have capital ships (though my yacht and the Nova are quite fun anyway).
-- We can't board NPC capital ships or space stations.
-- We can't mine asteroids and nebulae or otherwise engage in real space commerce.
-- There is little incentive to engage in space GCW PvP as there would be on the ground, where you have player-owned bases that need defending and where the upcoming GCW upgrade will use planetary control systems to make people want to participate even more.
-- There are no factional NPC ships you can control. Yes, Imps can call for a bomber strike and Rebs can call for a reload ship, but other than that, you can't use FP for factional wingmen, for example.
-- There is no integration of space and ground combat. It would be great if you could call in a planetary bomber strike from space. That might actually give players a reason to launch their ships and defend their bases/installations/players. Thus, space superiority and bombing techniques would be born.
-- There is no loot in space besides ship components and no loot on the ground that can be used in space. Why can't you loot a capacitor on the ground and a crystal in space?
-- There is no permanent item decay or total destruction of components. What are you going to do with that Level 10 reactor you've looted after other people have looted thousands of them over the next six months? It's not like they go bad. Without irreversible decay, shipwrights will become like architects ultimately and won't be able to give away their goods. An X-wing chassis will be worth less than a jar of spices. It won't be worth your time to sell them for junk to an NPC.
Even with these concerns, I am confidentJTL will only get better. If you've got the Prima guide, you know they're strongly hinting at space mining operations on the way. The devs also have never backed off of their promises to deliver capital ships. I suspect that also means space stations.
JTL is fun now, but it can only get better.

As it is now, there are very few things to do in space. PvP, PvE, and exploration. I am long done with fighting in space so all I do is explore. I would love to be able to autopilot while I walk around my ship ( I tend to explore on decimator). Space mining prolly would be cool, as well as Space stations that we can board. I really want to board the Big Space stations between talus and tralus.

Theres a Prima guide for JTL?
LOL.
I stopped buying those years ago, the content in these games changes to much.

I really enjoy JTL. Sure it could stand for improvement, but this is the base on which to build on. How many expansions are out there for established games like this. EQ has, what?, eight? nine? The same can be said of almost every other game of this nature that have survived the five year mark. After Ace the game loses a bit of it's fun due to the fact that there's really nothing else to achieve. I have over 8 million prestige and really nothing to do with it. I'm sure there are plans for the next expansion to make them worth something. For now I'll just enjoy exploring the space zones and doing my part to rid the stars of rebel taint.

Im just wondering how many people actually spend most of there time in space. Now, i have not been in space since the day i bought JTL as i felt it was a major let down as i expected it to be much faster than what it was.
Is there anyone who enjoys space combat more than ground combat
please post what you feel,im intrested to know
Thanks

Hmmm. This is a loaded question for me since I am a major old school gamer. In general,I would have to say that JTL is nice diversionbut it seriously lacks the substance and detail that the ground game has.I can see the games from the past that the Devs used for inspiration when designing JTL. Far, far back before even X-wing Alliance, back in the days of DOS was a game that the Devs really drew alotof ideas off of for JTL. This game, (which is well known and respected by ALL game gurus) is calledPrivateer.
Even as I play Privateer today (yes, I do have my own dedicated system with DOS loaded and fully functional) I still see Privateer as having a more robustand engaging experience then JTL. Sure JTL has nice eye candy that looks great but pretty graphics can only go so far and then the next question is, "Whats, next?" Several posters in this thread have hit on a number of specific improvmentswhich really need consideration by the Devs for implementation hopefully sometime in the near future depending on how the upcoming ground game revamps go.Ironically some of these ideas suggested for JTL in this thread were already used in Privateer when it came out many years ago.

I completely love space, I spend the majority of time I have there unless I need to do something with / for friends on the ground.

I love it so far... I'm 2222 in Storm Squadron (which I hear is the toughest to get through, lucky me
). It's not that the missions are hard, its that they take so long to do. This particular mission I am on (Capt Denner on Y4) take at least 2 hours to complete if you have an Ace to help
I think I'll enjoy the game more when the lengths of the missions are fixed. Other than that, I love JTLS.

I love JTL. Although my guild isn't that interested in it anymore, i've made a good group of pilot friends from other guilds that i can call on for help with missions. I'm currently doing my second pilot squadron (rebel vortex squadron) so that when i master, i can get tons of faction in deep space which i'll be able to use to buy bases to put in my guild's city.

JTL is the most fun i've had playing this game...at first. JTL currently has about as much content and variety in missions as pac-man. Ok maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but you all know what i'm getting at. It could be...it should be...more. Now before i start getting responses telling me to wait for it to improve, and people saying "one thing at a time...what about my profession", I seriously think that JTL is just as important as the ground game...I challenge anyone to compare the minutes of movie footage shot in space (fictionally of course) or aboard a ship or station of some sort, to ground footage...not saying space was more but it IS a substantial part of "Star" Wars...with that said I've listed below what I personally think should be the next step JTL should take...fore it is SOOO important that this happens. I do realize more content will be added, all i'm suggesting is what the next step should be.
I agree 100% with the space base idea, I personally think it would set JTL apart from all the TIE fighter, X-wing, X-wing vs. TIE fighter, Wing Commander (and of that series' iterations), and about every other space sim game you've ever played. I mean, I really dont understand how lack of content can even be an issue with JTL (except maaaaaybe not enough time in a day to put everything into development). How cool would it be to be able to have the new GCW implementations with the ground game in space...it wouldn't just be cool...it would be complete. As it stands now the GCW situation is looking much like the Death Star in Return of the Jedi...only partially constructed.
Dev's I beg you...we NEEED bases in space in the form of the aforementioned Star Destroyers and Blockade runners n such. I mean we can dock just like we do with current missions, although changing the animation sequence for docking with larger ships would be awesome...like entering the ship through the hanger and having the animation pull you into the ship. Imagine being able to have the option of manning an available turret if the ship falls under attack, quickly scrambling to the hanger to get to your ship to help defend, or take on the role of "engineer" and run back and forth throughout the giant ship fixing thing's that are getting damaged. The engineer role would be cool if you could group with other engineers to increase the amount of damage you could heal. If the ship gets destroyed...everyone on the ship loads back to the planet with mega wounds and significant faction loss.
Since the idea of JTL was ever mentioned this has been what i've been dreaming of. I think space bases are a pivotal part of SWG's development into a game that would crush the competition...because let's face it everyone loves Star Wars. Another idea would be to mirror the ground base purchasing system you have already added to the game, for instance you could make it so purchasing Star Destroyers (PVP base)would likewise come with 1 or 2 additional smaller PVE ships...once again adding more content for everyone and filling up that presently empty space with more symbols of factional control. Personally I dont think it's right that i'm almost a master pilot for the rebellion and i've never even seen a Star Destroyer in space.
Ok so now i will chant over a Voodoo Doll to try and invoke a dev reading my post. I apologize if all your hair falls out as a result of this, but in the long run it will only do you good when society shuns your hideousness and you're forced into a basement where you can continue to work on the idea's that I and many other players have suggested on these JTL posts. Truth is...we dont need more missions...we need space bases so WE can create our own missions!...a little bit of work from you on this would only benefit you. So please, please, please, let me get what i want...lord knows it would be the first time.

i extremely dislike JTL, i mean u need it in SWG to be Star Wars, its just hard, it needs more stuff, i watched my friends go up in space and grind for hours and hours, and do the vette missions, etc, even went along a couple times, i was findng tier 2 boring to grind and do and then i realized "hey after i get master, when i do, what is there to do"..............i couldnt think of anything at all...
thats why i dont like it
