Can any player ships dock w/ each other? If so, which ones?
I played beta but didn't get a chance to try it out.

No.
The devs have said this is something they are planning to add.

Not at launch, maybe later on. But I think it would be a great feature especially with yachts and multiplayer ships.

It'll also be great for um... "inspecting" a vessel that may or may not be carrying illegal cargo.

I think it would be awesome from the standpoint of pvp mission briefing... 6 fighters go up in their x wings... and they dock with a multiplayer ship for briefing... then back to their ships to execute.
It would also let the 'interior decorators' show off their soro's. It would be cool to see 4 or 5 soros. docked w/ each other. Not sure if that would ever make it in.. but it would be cool.
How did the missions work, where you had to dock? Was there art involved(did you actually see your ship docked to another)? It could get confusing if you let more than one ship dock. How many people can be on one ship? Would it be the number of people that all the ships could handle, or the number of people that the docking ship can handle.
..
sorry.. just thinking out loud.

This isn't a big, game revolutionizing idea,...just something I thought would be convenient/cool.
Have you ever wanted to have a party on your yacht,...and get it underway, and then right in the middle of it, someone wants to join in? Only way to do that would be to land, and have EVERYONE get back on board...Well I noticed the yacht has 2 access ladders, where the turrets would be,....why not make the yacht dockable for other PC ships? That way, with permission, someone could dock and board the yacht in space, and leave when they needed to. Don't even have to have the ship visible once it's docked, just treat it as if the person had landed at a station, have the ship disappear, the player spawn in the area, then once they want to leave, spawn them in their ship, like normal.
Nothing big, just something I had thought about

I'm sure this idea has been brought up before, but I do not lurk this forum much and have been analyzing this idea in my head for the past weeks now. With space mining being more tolerable now and POB ships being more useful, it is time to develop the next space change: Ship to Ship Docking. The potential features are as follows...
PASSENGER EXCHANGE
POB ships will be able to dock with one another. Upon successful docking, either a dialog will open up for all passengers, or an "airlock" object will appear within the ship. The dialog/airlock will give any passenger (except the ship's owner) the option to transfer over to the other ship. This will allow party ships to exchange guests or warships to exchance crew/supplies/stories.
RESOURCE EXCHANGE
This feature is what created the docking idea for me. Let's face it, asteroid mining is tedious. With a starfighter, mining is fast but requires several landings every 5-10 minutes to empty the cargohold. With a Y-8, it's slightly slower (for me at least) but requires no pitstops to empty the hold. With a full crew, the Y-8 can be about as fast as a starfighter, but I personally can mine faster with my Krayt than I can with my Y-8. With ship to ship docking, the best of both worlds can be brought together. Single pilot starfighters can mine with lightning speed. Once full, they can dock with a Y-8 and transfer their cargo. This alleviates the constant need to land, wait out the loading time, unload the cargo, launch, wait for loading again, fly 10k to the needed asteroid, etc.
Imagine this: A full mining crew. A Y-8 bristling with mining turrets, all manned and operational. Several light starfighters to scurry around and pick up the small rocks. The Y-8's pilot levels an elite mining laser on the asteroid to be mined. The pilot fires and breaks off large chunks. The Y-8's turrets fire on the large chunks and break them up into smaller pieces which are quickly tractored in by the small starfighters. Every so many minutes, the hold of a starfighter fills up, and takes a moment to dock with the Y-8, transfer its cargo, and resumes collecting small asteroid pieces. With all of these things happening at once, space mining would be both fun, fast paced, and fulfilling.
HOW IT WORKS
Fear not developers, for I have already figured out the main logistics on how ship docking will work! We already have a dock and undock command, so those will be incorporated into the technique. Here's how it will work:
SUMMARY
I see nothing wrong with this proposal and why it should not be implemented. It would make space activities more fun and enjoyable between multiple ships and multiple players. Space mining businesses could boom and a new economy could open up.

Fear not developers, for I have already figured out the main logistics on how ship docking will work! We already have a dock and undock command, so those will be incorporated into the technique. Here's how it will work:
- Starfighter targets Y-8 and uses the /dock command to request docking permissions. If they wish to cancel the dock request, there merely have to /undock
- A system message will appear to the Y-8 pilot that a starfighter is requesting to dock
- The Y-8 can then target the starfighter and use the /dock command to consent to the docking procedure. Or the Y-8 can /undock to deny permission
- Permission denied, the starfighter and Y-8 goes about their business. Permission granted, docking precedures begin and both ships are immobilized while docked
- An option window will appear for the starfighter with possible options while docked. Since the starfighter cannot transfer passengers, the only usable option is to transfer cargo
- Once the starfighter selects to transfer cargo, the Y-8 will receive a confirmation dialog and must accept or deny the cargo transfer. Accept, the cargo is transfered and the starfighter's hold is now empty. Deny, the starfighter is informed the transfer did not happen, but the ships remained docked
- Once cargo is transfered, either ship can /undock. This requires no special confirmation to prevent holding another ship hostage. The ships will move apart and both can operate independantly and get back to business

how about when docked you can walk between ships as if they were one(POBs for this of course), on top of that add a command for all factions "Extend Shields", what this would do is allow you to dock with a friendly POB it could extend its shields around you while repairs are done.

And the op's idea should be doable without too much work. Actually very little

Hostages, instead of blowing up another enemy POB, just disable it, dock, take some hostages to be released when you land, and make the game more like the movies. They get released either when the ship lands or when the ship they are being help captive on is disabled and they are taken back or its destroyed. The owner of the ship wont be taken captive to let him come back to free his crew, but will have to get a new crew to rescue them. Sorosuubs wont be able to do this but all other POBs could be fair game
