What do you mean it cant mine?
I have the thing, havnet used it, space mining is boring and noone else wants to do it. I just wanna get the resources in order for me to get elite equipment for my YT1300.
I use a kimogilla for mining myself.

y-8 totaly sux ..i thought its ganna mine diffrent than fighters..but looks same system ..shoot and get and with y-8 its imposible to shoot and get plas .. u neeed min one more person for tractor beam.. becouse aiming is very hard with that think..u dont see ur tatget from cocpit or outside.... its totaly sux ...

The Y-8 "sux" if, for some wierd reason, you try to use it as a single-player ship. With a sufficient crew, it can be a very effective ship (once you work around the bugs that are currently plaguing it). I like to use it, if for no other reason than it's big, it's different, and it gives me an excuse to drag other people into space with me.

Yeah, but it suffers from the same problem that the other POB ships have, and that is that if you take all of the crew members of a POB ship and put them in their own fighters they can do whatever task the POB ship was trying to do, but better.

I haven't found any problems with it yet, and can mine pretty effectively with only one other person on board. I even shoot down the asteroid bandits with it's mining lasers.
I have a mining laser in the top turret and the front gun, and currently a rail gun on the lower turret. The tractor beam at the moment is a waste of time, it's far quicker just to shoot the asteroids.
I haven't got the powerful lasers yet, I'm currently working on that, but for some odd reason it's kinda fun. I suppose cos' it's just different, and the ship is huge!

WhenI try to load a component an error occurs, "player_utilization". It does not happen for every part, but most of them. Including the reactor and the engine. I will not be able to launch the ship until this is fixed....

I use my X-Wing for mining, I am not a Master Pilot, so I can't use the Y-8 just yet...
Anyway, I have found that Tractor Beam is extremely useful. It makes obtaining piles of resources far quicker then simply shooting up the various rocks.
If you doubt that, get a buddy and go up into space, you blow up the rocks, he/she uses the tractor beam and see who fills up their cargo hold quicker.
I guarantee that the Tractor Beam user, unless a terrrible pilot, will fill up their cargo box about 25 to 45% faster then someone just shooting at the Asteroids.

Not to be rude, but you must not PvP much. I don't care how good you think your YT crew is,four pilots in seperate fighters who know what they are doing will eat you alive without breaking a sweat. Even if you have a 3832 shield and the best armor around there are a lot of player ships out there thatcan still drop you in one hit. By the same token, a lot of playerfighters are going to be able tosurvive a hit fromone of your YT's turrets. Are you honestly trying to make the claim that your YT, with its huge hit profile and limited firepower is a match for four seperate targets that are all smaller, more manueverable, pack more firepower, and have more effective shields and armor? The only way you'd "win" in your YT is if you used e-pulse, or if you used one of the new POB engines and boosters to simply run away.
