just thought i'd put this up...
there's times i just like to fly around and have fun,
one thing i like to do is fly through asteroid belts... (who sees where this is going?)
if i'm at the top of my gme i can get some fancy moves in and fly through the whole thing and not get a scratch, other times i bounce off EVERY single frikken thing in there....
and yet.. i don't rake damage and the asteroid goes spiralling off into space... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot over..
imagine the chases you could have, beat up, weapons gone, shields failing what options do you have? eject? or are you gonna try and loose them in the asteroid belt?
now you do that all it does is slow them down, what if slamming into an asteroid blew your arse up? or the pursuers?
am i the only one who thinks this?

That would be cool, i remember being chased by 5 teir 4's when i started i went into an asteroid feild and they just kept on coming. 5stars for you for a great idea!

That would add a great feeling of danger and thrill in the game
Doubt they will add it tho, since we can still walk through other people...

In 100% agreement.
If I go smacking into a station, asteroid or anything of that nature, there absolutely should be a 'cost' to it.
Right now, the universe is coated in really thick layers of 'carefree fly like a moron safety rubber'.
I'm ready for my training wheels to come off now.

I agree. Asteroid fields should be dangerous. If the Devs don't want to make them the death traps they should be to unskilled pilots (please see ESB), they could still make them hazardous by making collisions cause at least some minor damage. As it stands right now, asteroid fields are little more than glorified "bumper car" arenas with special effects.

I've got to go along with this 100%! Great idea. Hope the Devs take your suggestion to heart.

I personally like this idea, but when it comes down to the mechanics, I don't think it would work. The entire collision system would have to be made again, and the Devs have more...well, they are working on other stuff. I hope.

I think the devs have all the time in the world, their prolly just sitting there reading our posts and laughing at us

at gametrailers.com there was a demo at the swg fan fest
the demonstrator said we would get minor shield dmg after hitting an asteroid
also somewhere i think a dev said that we could target and destroy small asteroids
this was all b4 jtl launched
i think asteroid colissions should do monir shield dmg

Great idea. I wonder how hard it would be to implement, It would definitely make dog fighting moreinteresting.

I think you should take damage from colliding with other objects. There's no sense of danger in space other than being shot at by other ships.
