cause double damage?? I've been pretty good up to now on my ship and not getting destroyed etc.. I ejected for the first time the other night because I was sitting in space disabled no enemies around to destroy me etc.. Normally when my ship gets destroyed and I get back down on the ground I have 100 wounds to all of my primary stats 100 to health, action, and mind. After ejecting however I had 200 to all stats this time around.. I thought the Eject was to save your life not cause more damage on the person.
Is it just me? If so I'll bug it but I've heard other people saying it was happening to them to... A fighter pilot ejects to save his life in real life. I would figure the eject would have the same function here in JTLS as in when you get back on down on the ground you don't have as much wounds if any. Can any one comfirm this for me??
Thanks
PS just thought of this maybe this is why Porkins didn't eject over the death star he knew he was going to take more wounds when he cloned.

Because only COWARDS eject!!!
Seriously, I dunno.
...sometimes it's required if you're stranded, but I'd fathom it has something to do with punishing not going down with the ship. I think it might also spare you further damage on the chassis/equipment if you eject vs. let yourself be destroyed.
I'm not certain, though.

Lol, A vast ye maties come back here... you can't scurry off my ship. You be going down wit the captian fer sure lest ye die by my sword.
Seriously the eject only comes up when you have enough damage to cause it to go up... I would think its there to save not only the chassis wear but character wear too.
I have an interesting situation on Gorath server with a second character I decided to do rebel pilot with. I get destroyed because I'm a master pilot on Sunrunner and think I have the same equipement and can take some of the same stuff I take on, on sunrunner. Anyway yea I get destroyed now I have wounds... However this is the twist and what makes it interesting my second trainer is on Lok at Nyms stronghold. I have -5000 faction to nym so I'm sneeking into the complex all the time. I can take care of myself on the ground but with wounds and no buff getting into nyms is an interesting endevour without getting ganked and having to clone again
So I figure hey I'll eject and save my wounds... nope made it worse.
Anyway my thoughts on it so it does happen to you as well?

This "penalty" happens to everyone.
They really ought to re-label that button "self-destruct" as it not only gives you more wounds it actually damages your components as well - despite what the decription says!!
They ONLY time this button should ever be pushed is when your engine is knocked out and you are left alone and stranded in space. It is the only way to get out of this situation.
In ALL other cases sad to say, it is better, much better, to let your enemies destroy you.

I have found a real genuine benniftt to the eject button, but it only pertains to deep space.
In deep space you still take decay if your blown up due to PvE action. YOu take no decay being blown up to player action.... any player, including yourself.
In short, being tailed 20 b wings all shooting missles up your tail pipe, and that little eject button appears, HIT IT. YOu die a PvP death, and respawn at station with no decay. If you don't hit eject, enjoy your repair bill.

Hmmm...I have been to Deep Space a number of times - and been destroyed a numbers of times - by NPC vessels and haven't suffered decay. I believe the Devs changed Deep Space so that no decay is suffered there (PvE or PvP) to promote folks to go there and have a blast, LITERALLY! ![]()
So really the only time theSelf-Destruct...err "eject" button should be used is when you are trapped in space with no engine.

It's true - when you die in DS, either by ejecting or by being completely turned into a debris field, you wake up in your jump sector with all component and chassis damage repaired and 100 less wounds than you'd have had you ejected.

As much as I like to eject for RP reasons. (So I can say I didn't die) I don't anymore. It's just a waste. It's like killing yourself more. Who in the heck ejects to save their ship but not themselves? Should be the other way around. Or maybe make ejecting more beneficial by having less wounds and less damage. I don't understand why this would be unfair. Wouldn't this be more rewarding to the people who actaully think and hit the eject button instead of madly trying to fight?

eject didntalways cause more damage, it used to cause just 100 wounds... not the 400 it does now.
it got bugged in a patch along the way.

there's one circumstance when i can think of that eject is actually useful (and actually ejects you)- when you're not the pilot of a ship. for example if you're the gunner on a 2 person ship then using eject doesn't blow your arse to high heaven, but instead sets you on the ground w/o wounds or anything. same with multiplayer ships; get into the eject hatch and you get to go to the planet below, instead of scuttling the ship.

Works just as soon as you push the button!
Then you get that great "eject" sequence - the one were it shows you safely leave your ship....
Oh wait...that's right, the "eject" button is really a mis-labeled "self-destruct" button. The instant you push it you die horribly and your ship explodes!
HA! That'll teach those bad guys for shooting up my ship!!
They REALLY need to change the wording on that stupid button! It ought to read:
"WARNING: For use by turret gunners (or passengers) only. Any other action will result in destruction (and decay) of the vessel and its components and a double death of the pilot."
