I have found a real genuine benniftt to the eject button, but it only pertains to deep space.
In deep space you still take decay if your blown up due to PvE action. YOu take no decay being blown up to player action.... any player, including yourself.
In short, being tailed 20 b wings all shooting missles up your tail pipe, and that little eject button appears, HIT IT. YOu die a PvP death, and respawn at station with no decay. If you don't hit eject, enjoy your repair bill.Hmmm...I have been to Deep Space a number of times - and been destroyed a numbers of times - by NPC vessels and haven't suffered decay. I believe the Devs changed Deep Space so that no decay is suffered there (PvE or PvP) to promote folks to go there and have a blast, LITERALLY!
So really the only time the Self-Destruct...err "eject" button should be used is when you are trapped in space with no engine.
I have, infact suffered decay from PvE deaths in Deepspace. I know this because after a PvE death, i did infact have to repair at the station i respawned at. So either there is PvE decay in deepspace, or i got hit by a bug.

One thing I can't understand about the eject button... why does it even destroy our ship? It should show an animation of the pilot ejecting or (if in larger ship) an escape pod shooting out, but the rest of the ship would just spiral away into the vastness of space.
Right now it looks more like you're self-destructing rather then escaping.

Hehe, So what have we all learned?
DONT EJECT GO DOWN WITH THE SHIP!!
Come on devs this needs to be addressed at some point in the future
Again I remind you of that battle above the death star
Porkins: "I've got a problem"
Biggs: "Eject!"
Porkins: "I can hold it!"
Biggs: "Eject!"
Porkins: "I can ho..."
Biggs: "Damnit he didn't take the bait.."
hehe

I must tell this story, it is not mine, sorry don't rem the name. This guy was having a party on his Yatch, and his mates decide to high jack his ship and go joy rideing to some planet or the other. They simply would not give it back. So he goes down to the captians deck, and ejects
. Needless to say, he taught them all who was truly captian.
Edit: oh for those of you who don't know, a passenger can eject without damage. If the owner of the ship ejects...everyone dies.....

The captain can also /dismiss anyone on his boat, next time you get shanghaid consider that an option.
If you do get stranded in space, you could do a player search and see if any rebels are in the sector. they may have /vrepairother to get you moving again.
