Ok, I took up freelance pilot and am currently working the smuggler alliance missions. Now I'm 3/3/3/3 with 800k xp for the next level in tier 4.
Want I want to know is in tier 3 you are given one of the boxes therefore not having to grind it, is this the same with tier 4 boxes because 1 mil per box is alot and I'm getting bored doing the same sort of missions just to get the xp.
I want to master freelance but I'm just getting bored of flying around solo trying to kill things, then eventually getting blown up (I'm not the best of pilots but have managed to do fine upto this point).
If anyone can give me some advice it would be most welcome.

All of the tier 4 boxes are granted by successful completion of missions.

Bored flying? I have made it through 4/4/4/4 pilot (Rebel) and haven't been bored yet. Of course, I do a lot of group flying with fellow pilots in my guild. We have a blast! I think I accumlated about 2 million pilot XP without even realising I had it. If your bored, its just the way you are playing the game.

Not true. All of the tier THREE skillboxes are granted by missions, the tier FOUR ones still require 1M xp a piece. And the 7.5M exp for the master box is not applicable, you cannot be master by completing 7.5M exp, you HAVE to destroy the vette.

lol nice look at it i guess. JTL has a great deal of potential, maybe if they changed the leveling system slightly, the amounts of xp do seem a bit excessive, maybe if they added the Star Wars story to it? sorry just a random ramble

So, you have to get the 7.5mil & destroy the vette then?
The problem I have is that the guild I'm in ground based nd do not have JTL so solo flying is my only option.
Guess I'll just have to leave it for a while, concentrate on my FS grind and then go back up into space when I get bored of that to grind some more.

Im flying for the smugglers alliance. I've got 800k on xp so only need another 200k to upgrade my ship.
At least I haven't got to grind the 7.5mil xp for the master box.

Thats correct, that 7.5M is N/A. I don't know why they even put it in there.

I've mastered two pilot profs (Black Epsilon, imperial, and Arkon's Havoc, rebel) so far, and I'm working on my third.
The tier 1, 2 and 4 boxes are all gained by gaining xp and doing a quest...not necessarily in that order.
The easiest ways to gain xp, if you're not a crash-hot pilot.
1. Go for a ride in a 2-seater, preferably with someone who is an ace and can use high level components. Sit back and shoot when you can - you'll get 1/2 the xp for the kill, even if you don't manage to hit. They get all the loot and creds.
2. Have an ace come along with you when you take a duty mission. The ace should disable *all* the ships that spawn, and all you have to do is to finish them off. Sometimes, you might even get the loot, if the ace disables them on the first pass and doesn't do the most damage.
It's preferble for the ace to pull the duty mission, that way, all the spawning fighters will target them. This is IMHO the easiest way to get good xp. It's a bit boring for the ace tho lol (I've been on both ends
)
Also, play around with your ships loadout - each ship has got a certain mass allocated to them, use it. If there's spare mass, that's just potential armour/shields/damage going to waste.
Hope that helps!

The fastest way to do it is hop in the back of someone's 2 seater ship and head to deep space. You can get 1 million exp very, VERY quickly.
The second fastest way to do it is to climb into your own ship and get out to kessel, pick off rebel/imp spawns that are fighting each other, stick with b-wings, x-wings and y-wings. You'll get around 7k xp per kill, doesn't sound like much but it adds up fast. The xp requirements are certainly not exessive, I used the second method and finished tier 4 in a day or two.
