Thread: 2 hours later mission failed. NO DUH!

Okay, someone hold me down, I'm kinda pissed off as of right now.

I've been trying to do the Imp mission, Storm Squadron, first of the Endor series.

Or, should I say, first series of the endor series????

I get my breifing. "Go there, and escort the core and engineers to somewhere, and that's it."

Okay, simple enough.

After 4 different tries (until I finally understood that killing all the fighters didn't matter as long as you were close to the transport... Since it can't really die. And, also, this is NOT in the 2 hours I'm talking about), I finally do part one.

YAY!

Okay, so that took half an hour. Not too bad.

I press "H" on my keyboard, all happy, when "GASP!", all of a sudden, I receive a transmission.

Those stupid engineers got caught. Well, that proves you shouldn't let engineers fly a ship that has more important cargo that the Emperor's supply of Metamucil.

I zoom there, and manage to kill the fighter escort. Some A-Wings spawn (mission spawn). Okay, I hate those, but I can manage them pretty well.

I see my shield slowly diminishing and refilling at a steady pace. I'm 2-2-2-2, so it's not too hard against tier 3s.

All of a sudden "GASP!", I get about a tenth of my shielding going. Wait a second, there wasn't any incoming enemy waves... And those are harder-hitting weapons that what the mission enemies have.

It dawns on me: this is a tier 4 rebel spawn.

Damn... At the speed this transport's moving, I'll have to take care at LEAST 2 series of spawns. Okay, well, let's take care of that B-Wing first, since it hits harder than those A-Wings.

Two Tier 4 B-Wings later, I'm slowly killing those two other Tier 4 A-Wings. Sadly, they are WAY more manoeuvrable than my ship, so I have to often backtrack to the transport, in order to not get too far. After killing the second wave of mission spawn (a-wings, tier 3, again), there is one Tier 4 A-Wing left. Another Mission spawn. Okay, not too bad. one Y-Wing and three A-Wings, all Tier 3. I can take those.

Nuh-Uh!, said the server, spawning me four more tier 4. Two B-Wings and two A-Wings.

Feces.

So, I manage to take out one B-Wing, one A-Wing, all of the tier 3 a-Wings and the Y-wing.

Leaving me with about no armor on my back, barely any shielding left as well, and one very angry B-Wing, and one equally pissed-off A-Wing.

I decide to take on the B-Wing first. I manage to lower it's armor real bad, and start taking on the chassis.

Then, the screen shakes, and my capacitor goes. I finish the B-Wing, god knows how, and I set for the nearest space station, ful boosters.

After crippling my ship pretty badly, the A-Wing gives off pursuit.

I take a long breathe in of satisfaction.

I then realized that, in the meantime, I was contacted AGAIN by the Imperial command to retreive something from a rebel advanced scout.

Okay, that has NOTHING to do with the original mission, but whatever, I'll do it.

So, I get repaired (YAY!) and set off for the coordinates.

I get there, disable the tier-3 A-Wing, dock, and that's it.

At least, THAT was simple, for once.

I'm finally decoupling, and I'm about to hit the H key when, you guessed it, MORE stuff from the Imperial command. "This mission better pay WAY more than 5K..." I'm thinking to myself, since it already cost me that much in repairs.

Help a disabled freighter, okay, that would be simple enough. I mean, it's just a docking procedure.

I get on the spot, and I see, on the top of my monitor, Z-95s, spinning around. I press "target nearest". Tier 4. 4 of them.

I pray the server that they won't attack.

Which they do. once decides to go to me right when I cross the 1.5K barrier. Considering that the transport is 950m away from the nearest, I expected one or two. But that was counting without the wing AI. Yay for player bubble, I swear.

So, I manage to kill all four of them. My rear armor is lightly damaged, but the shields reload fast, so I'm not too worried.

I dock with the freighter.

I'm about to undock, and here comes the fight music. "What the heck?!" I think to myself. So, this is AGAIN a tier-4 spawn.

I undock, the frighter goes underway, and I try to fight off the Z-95s. again.

That's when 4-5 Tier 4 X-Wings spawn in.

That's 8 ships, all of them tier 4.

My odds are bad, but I did get out of similar situations. I just have to stay near the transport until it jumps, and pray that this is the last part, so if I die after it jumps, I won't have to redo all of that.

I manage to kill one Z-95. YAY! One less to care about.

About 2 seconds later, joy, ANOTHER mission wave spawn. 4-5 more X-Wings. I placed the count down to 7, but with 4 more, that would be 11.

No. Way. I. Can. Survive.

I manage to try to survive long enough, hoping the freighter will jump back.

My shields fade faster than running water. I die.

I check my watch.

2 hours and 8 minutes for that mission.

2 hours.

I ran into 2 tier 4 spawns that had NOTHING to do with my mission. I managed to actually fight them off, most of the time.

In the end, I had to run into 11 tier 4 fighters, 4 out of which had NOTHING to do with the mission.

And die.

I've done the beta. This has been a request since then.

Would it be possible to "flag" players who are doing missions so that mobs don't attack?!

Because, already the odds were against me, as you read, and I managed to do it anyway. At least, the first time.

Second time, there wasn't just ANY odds at all.

I was wondering if I should leave the game before, because university takes a huge load of my time. I already lost 3 harvesters and 1 wind generator due to the lack of time, plus the minerals that were extracted.

That pissed me off.

Now, I have to make due with mission spawns, PLUS mobs as well in an area that's higher level than me?!

My trainer won't do anything for me to get a tier 3 skill. I have the XP. I can't gain ONE XP more until those are gone.

And yet, I'm supposed to do that mission HOW?!

People have request a flag for ships in mission, so that nobody could "steal" those.

They got it.

But the people who asked for a flag for those doing mission not to be bothered by the mobs, never got it.

So, either move that mission somewhere it makes sense (which I doubt, since it's been done that way for a reason...) in the Yavin system, or, add that flag!!!

PLEASE!

Thank you.

PS: due to the lenght, I'm sure hardly anybody will read...

Why wound you even say that? The entire Tier 3 is mission based, all boxes are free, no xp is ever needed!

Well, if you read what FirebreathXIII wrote in the first post, you'd know it's not a duty mission. He's 2222 on his first Tier 3 mission, and all Tier 3 is completely mission based for all factions, not just SA.

A fellow guildie had a mission that was similarly bugged. It was a RebelTier 2 mission IIRC and he had to capture and escorta lamba shuttle near the jump point to Nym's Hovel. The problem was that the stupid shuttle would spawn in a veritable cloud of hostile rebel and corsair ships (along with a bunch of imperials thrown in). The only way I was able to help him was to camp at the spawn point while he landed to get the mission. As soon as he launched into space, the silly shuttle popped right into existence at the spawn point. It was being attacked by EVERYTHING and it didn't sport a nice mission objective red box around it. I quickly disabled it and no other ship could damage it further. My buddy came by, docked with it (after which the mission objective box appeared around the shuttle) and completed the mission.

If anyone else is having the same problem on Tarquinas, just let me know and I'll help. I can understand the mission designers making it more attractive to be in a group, but this mission was totally borked. Unless I had been there, the NPC's would have blown away the shuttle. It just isn't right.

On the other hand, JtL is SO much better than the ground game. Overall, I've been very pleased with the expansion.

Okay, so if I understand everything well, Tier 3 doesn't require any XP, just do missions and get your skills free? Or is it that all the XP required is easily gained thru the missions themselves??

I any case, I am releived that I am not the only one experiencing that problem, although I pretty much knew it. I mean, during the beta, this issue came up, and here we are today... Speaks for itself, I beleive.

I might have some time in two weeks to spend on the game. Now, it's finals time and everything, so the chances that I can play aren't all that great. Besides, couple of my buddies are on their way to that mission, so I wouldn't be surprised that we have to work it together. I'm sure that two or three of us WOULD be able to overcome the odds? I mean, I nearly did it myself, I'm sure that with those people, we'll be able to do it as well... x_x

But again, I think that this mission is way too long. Should have had the last two parts as separate parts, not included as unintelligible add-ons to a mission.

I have to agree tho, the space game is MUCH better than the ground game, and this buy a longshot. Content could be slightly more diversified tho, but still diversified enough (compared to the ground game) to be fun.

Now, if they had included supply depot raids (have a bunch of containers free-floating in space, and couple fighters to guard them, and your goal being to destroy the containers, for example) and other goodnesses, would have been even better, but still.

I can't have Freespace 2 but with Freespace 2 now, can I? x_x

Still, this game is close enough for the time being...

The missions are all you need to do for Tier 3. The first Tier 4 box isgrind only, and you need 1mil xp for it, so you're actually building up the XP for first Tier 4 box.

Each faction has an easy, medium and hard leg. The hardest leg for Imperials is Storm Squadron. Basically, once you start the Tier 3 missions, make friends if you don't have 'em. You're gonna need 'em. There's maybe 2 or 3 missions after Tier 3 begins that you'll actually be able to solo.

If you're not a grouping type of person, it's not too late to try one of the other two legs. They're much easier and can be soloed almost all the way through.

If I remember out of each wave of spawns there is a captain in a xwing he is the one that causes the failure, take him out first.
