Thread: The ship armor bug is getting annoying!

Ship armor is not being repaired like it should. The hitpoints are being fully restored, but the armor rating is not. This is debilitating our ships and needs correcting. For those who don't know what I am talking about, go look at your armor sometime. For example itmight say:

Armor: 1244/1244

Hitpoints: 1244/1244

Now get into a battle and get 1000 points of your armor damaged; have it repaired and it will now say

Armor: 244/244

Hitpoints: 1244/1244

When that happens, your armor no longer protects you, it's worthless. Rediculous. No one is going to be able to continue to put armor on their ships at this rate, we'll all go bankrupt trying.

How about a fix?

Im not sure if this concerns what you are talking about but if you repair in space your componets degrade..if you repair with a kit on the ground I think it doesnt.

And who told you that? I repair in space all the time, my equipment doesn't degrade. The bug is that armor doesn't get repaired at all.

Not sure what is happening there, either you're are mistaken or have run into an actual bug.. when i ran tests for my Shipwright mate to see if there was decay i noticed the following:

The armor value of armor decays upon repair by about 10% of the damage that is repaired, i might get round to testing this on other components too, see what happens.

Decay is essential otherwise shipwrights would find themselves in an ever diminishing market.

I think he's right here. I've noticed this as well. The armor is decaying way faster than the other components after repair... making them pretty useless. I'm going way more armor than other components. I've been using the same engine almost from the start, but I've swapped out my armor at least 10 times.

I don't remember having this problem in beta unless it was changed late in the beta after I quit.

I don't care about armor/hp decay on my other components, they still work. Armor decay like this makes armor USELESS.

Armor is too expensive to be replacing after every big battle. This needs to get fixed.

Oh man i just posted my own thread on this subject too i sure hope the armor value on other components like say my capacitor doesnt do the same thing ill quit even worrying bout pilot if this is the case.

Not only are you correct in the armormax valuesdropping but if your other componets get dmged(ie weapons etc) there total hp/armor max lowers also. After 1 awsome fight in kessel with the 2 gunboats and vette my max armor went from 1843 to 1034 and that was just one repair.at 75k per for armor not to mention the time/cash it took me to reverse engineer my weapons, capacitor and shields.Im seriously considering just using JTL as free transportation

I do not know if you are seeing a bug or a new bug.

My tests have shown me that all compnents loose about 10% of their armor value depending on the amount repaired. ie if you take 10 points of damage and repair it you loose 1 point of armor value.

The reason armor degrades so much faster then anything else is that when in battle, your armor has to be damaged all the way to 0 before you take damage on other components. So you are always loosing 10% of the total armor points if you are taking any damage on other compnents.

It only takes a couple of hard battles for the armor to degraded enough to be usless.

It would be nice if armor degraded a bit slower though.

Hope that helps at least to understand it better.

Yes, your components to degrade when you repair in space. Keep an eye on the HP of your items, and they will go down. Eventually you need to completely replace the item. Now, you can repair it with a repair kit, which gives you less decay, but there is still decay. The problem I think is that the HP are not what is being modified, it is the armor, which is a bug in my opinion.

The problem is that other components are just as effective right until the 10 hitpoint limit. I use a droid interface with 20 armor and 20 hitpoints. Armor should have a secondary armor stat for it's protective qualities that doesn't degrade.

Armor is really the only thing that needs regular replacement and the steady stream of good loot basically negates any need to buy any. Simple fix, make loot crappier in most cases and shipwright goods better. Space loot should be similar to the ground game in the sense that good loot should be a rarity and difficult to get, not a standard above even the best of shipwright goods.
