Thread: Tier 3: Give us a break!

I have failed the Imperial Tier 3 mission for Storm Squadron 5 times already and I am getting really fustrated. I don't mind having to travel to the Endor system. I don't mind having to fight wave after wave of fighters superior to my Tier 2 ship. I don't even mind having to form a group of elite players to get the mission done.

What I do mind is that the mission takes too damn long. It takes almost two hours of playing to complete without breaks!

The last time I failed I got into an argument with my husband because I kept telling him I would let him use the computer after I finished my mission. I could not convince him that a single mission would take that long.

Please Devs! Fix this mission by adding a few breaks thoughout it where we can land on the ground/repair/and even log and complete it later. (Please! My marriage depends on it!)

Why dont you just stop playing for a while give the game a break if your marriage depends on it?
i got in a argument with a moose about this game once ... yep....

No mission takes more than an hour to do, if it took you 2 hours and still not finished, you're not doing it right. For example, if you're told to go a waypoint and dock with a ship or whatever, go there as fast as you can while ignoringas many enemy ships that spawn on the way as possible. If you and your group try to kill every wave of mission critical targets the mission throws at you, you'll probably never reach the waypoint. So pay attention to your quest journal and the mission update message, and do exactly you're asked to do.

This system that requires you to have a group and missions that last so long and if you fail the last part of it you fail the entire mission is flawed and the devs are going to chase people away until they admit they were wrong and fix it. Based on what we have seen from them they will wait until too late to admit they are wrong then fix it.

You may have already done this, if so then my apologies

Have you tried upgrading your components? specifically reactor, capacitor, shield and weapons? On my server there are a few vendors that sell very good re'd componentes with lower masses, though they aren't cheap.

Also, do you have a flight computer, with the highest reactor overload chip you can get, then an engine overload 3 chip, this really helps and not just with speed, you also get a big boost to manouverability (sp?)

Components do seem to make a HUGE difference, doing my first tier 3 mission in Yavin space, I was able to take down 6 tier 3 tie's in one go with my tier 2 y-wing longprobe.

After the first 2 tie's were destroyed I had no rear shield left and was running out of rear armour, but then with less of them shooting me my shield recharged. I am a crap pilot, but components and an astromech have made all the difference for me

^ Valid point ^
I had a mission that was similar in that regard. Took me only a half hour to complete it because I ignored the incoming waves for as long as possible and even did the docking operation while under fire - with no other players to cover me.

They take so long, because JTL is supposed to be a community thing. They encourage you to group w/ ur friends, and have a good long time i guess. Cause swg/jtl is one big happy comunity, lol.(yeah right)

You gotta give a thank, for the TIE tank.

The problem is that you do need help to do them. They take a long time. There is little to no reward for people who help you. They risk damage to their ship for nothing. In a twitch based game, which JTL is, really long missions are much more taxing than in an RPG style game. Also only one player get's a waypoint so it can be really confusing for the helpers. It's also difficult to tell sometimes when the mission is actually over.
The missions arn't hard with one or more helpers but they still take just as long to finish. It's hard to get anyone who has gone through them to want to go back and do them again and if you get help from someone who hasn't done them they won't understand why it taking so long.

id suggest the good old microjump trick. enter the system far away, wait til the first 1-2 waves show up, then jump to a point closer to the target and you wont see any enemies for a long time. privateer had an annoying delivery mission that seemed impossible (new waves spawning before you could finish the last) and obviously expected you to dock under fire. two or three missions like that can be done with jumping, though of course you wont get much (read: any) xp if you avoid dogfights.

so far at least privateer let me solo up to 25% of tier 4. im sure the rest is possible too, though collecting the xp with tier 4 missions is nothing but tedious and frustrating. shooting 1000 firesprays that all need you to empty a full cap into them is annoying enough, but encountering only ties that take ridiculous amounts of damage while seeming to be a lot faster than their tier 3 version is no fun at all (especially escort missions.. ha, nearly finshed the first of 4 advanced.. oh.. 4 new ones.. oh.. another wave.. oh... freighter destroyed).

if imp is anything like that dont be surprised if you find yourself doing tier 4 by killing generic tier 3 npcs. they die 10 times faster and give about 1/3 - 1/4 the xp. sounds like a bargain.

Storm squadron does. Hell, on just one of the escort legs, it takes a half-hour before the thing even hypers out. Then, there's more escorts after that!

Storm squadron is the most difficult pilot tree in JTL, I'm convinced now. After helping pilot after pilot out of tree after tree, and reading here, it's obvious to me.

Also, don't pay attention to any snide remarks from ones who obviously are not married.

Tier 3 is driving me nuts as well. I am currently an Imperial pilot at 3/3/3/2 here on Tempest and I have gone through a bunch of equipment, credits, and timetrying to finish offthe last Tier 3 mission. I think I am going to have to "hire" some help since I am not (nor do I want to be) a member of a guild. And yes, I too have had an arguement over the computer with my wife as she could not believe that a single mission was that long but after explaining to her other things that the devs have done which make no sense she was a little more receptive to my problems.
