Answer this simple question please. How will wearing armor help you in piloting ? Unless you will use new /eject option that will let you float in space wearing robocop composite suit and weild the DE10 while taking pot shots at enemy fighters.

i am often aggro'ed exiting the starport by the unsavory lot who hangs about on the frnges. as a master pilot/master shipwright, i usually travel about in composite armor to survive such encounters. that will no longer be a possibility, unfortunately.

it would be nice if we could have a flight suit that provided a modicum of protection from such assaults.

And I thought the crafters complaining about armour was bad...this definitely takes the cake.

I'm also a MSW/Mpilot, and not once have I ever had a problem with having no armour. Don't use buffs either.

I am a Rebel Ace and a Master Shipwright and I've been wearing armor while i run errands on teh ground. I'm also a merchant so I occasionally take trips to the village. I have always relied on armor to protect me. When moving about on teh ground. A person not wearing armor now with a lvl 1 combat rating will be almost insta killed by very low level creatures, never mind the stuff you'll find on dathomir. If I see an engine I want in some city on lok and getting then invovles getting past lots of dangerous creatures I'd like ot have some armor. Pilot/shipwright whatever, I don't think you are considering the fact that now most creatures can insta kill low level players (LIKE PILOTS) on the ground who are just trying to shop around. We get and Ace jacket and a Helmet. How about those provide some protection? The jacket looks pretty sturdy and I hope the helmet sure is. Mabye they could just give us some basic items that will keep us alive while shopping.

I just realized that after the CU I don't think I'm going to be certified to wear most types of armor. Anyone know what a dedicated spacer/crafter can use as far as armor is concerned for protection?

Would u mind explaining how a PSG will work after CU for players who are not going to be cert'd in any type of armor?

Wouldn't mind but I don't know. Most posts I read about the CU end up saying that weapons, shields, armor, buffs, whatever don't matter any more and that it's all down to your level vs the enemies level. As a crafter you'll be level 1. My guess is that a level 2 creature will normally incap you with4 blows and a PSG will make it5 blows. Level 5 or higher will still one-hit/shot incap you.

But all of the above is just an educated guess from what I read and know from combat systems of other MMO's.

As close to an official answer that I've seen is this from the recent Stratics Dev chat:

Stratics Chat:
Brannoc - *RRR187* How will crafters place harvesters on planets now, since creatures kill low level characters so quickly?

Helios_SOE If you wish to gather resources in dangerous areas, you should either get a PSG or you could also hire some other players to protect you in the wilds.
The PSG only deflects energy damage, and most anything that has an interest in eating you out in the wild does kinetic, but there you go...

As a CH on the ground, I get to have my black Ubese converted into pale blue Padded. I like the Ubese as it has one of the few helmets that don't look bad on a MonCal head. The Padded helm I got to try out in the recent conversion testing looks soooooo baaad. Worse even than my new trophy looks on the same head

The PSG is also only good against energy damage, you are wide open and fair game for kinetic damage (which is 90% of the damage typesyou'll encounter when placing a harvester!). Crafters are no longer welcomed in a game where the only way to get items are from other players who craft! Of course, this also means that PSGs will defend against lightsabers (which are energy damage) and you'll get a sparkly effect when the shield is hit. Of cousre, how often are YOU attacked by a Jedi?

Even the lighter armor is ONLY GOOD AGAINST ENERGY!! Now tell me that a layer of material isn't going to protect you from kinetic damage... So as a pilot only you are screwed in the ground game...

Wow, I finally found a online game that had the balls to be different and actually have a buffet of gameplay styles and what do they go and do? They turn it into JUST ANOTHER game. If I wanted the style of combat in the CU I'd be playing Everquest II or some other game. But I'm not playing those other games, I'm playing SWG. Well I guess in the next few days I'll be logging into SWG and playingjust another game, at least until it gets boring. LOL!

I fail to understand how this CU is supposed to make it more Star Wars like! I suppose if I got trapped in a meeting with people who could fire me and had "lowest common denominator" beat into my head over and over again that eventually I would find that "transendental place" where the EQ2 universeIS Star Wars'ish!

Multi-Player is what brings the SWG world alive (real people, other players, make SWG so wonderfully dynamic). I just don't treat SWG like it was a chat room, I don't play to socialize and I resent forced grouping!"

Have you people tried to test out the Upgrade?

Anyway kinetic protection via armor is best provided by the assault armor class. These are certed by novice elite professions, though it will hamper your movement speed and other things. You won't be completely helpless as a crafter, but remember, you choose not to take any combat skills, so why should you do good against anything but the lightest of targets?

Afraid your going to probably rely on PSGs as said and *gasp* other players.

I'm paying SOE $21 a month (Station Access, though only been playing SWG since January)so I can cover the butts of other players (or have to try to get other players to cover my butt, who are also paying SOE a monthly fee)? So, if I can't find another player with enough machoso that I can go about my business, thenwere is the value for that $21 a month I am paying??

I don't play this game because I WANT to play with other people, I play this game because every time I log in the universe is different BECAUSE it is constantly being changed by other people (this is the basic way any Soloist thinks, if you understand it you understand WHY someone would pay the same money as someone who likes to group, but instead chooses to solo)! We understand there are limits, but to effectively lock us in our merchant tents is going too far!

In real life any merchant can carry a gun and wear a bulletproof vest, mitigating more than 90% of the potential harm that could happen to him in the course of his daily business (more crimes are stopped by the presence of a gun then are commited with them per the a recent CDC report on gun violence, and a full 1/3 of the police officers who's lives are saved by wearing a vest are from car accidents - ie- kinetic damage from blunt trauma). Yet a game that is supposed to be fun makesthe merchant'svirtual counterpart a clay pigeon for any other attack except energy. So after the CU,a merchant isprotected against lightsabers (which WEREN'T a problem to begin with)! How is that supposed to make SWG more Star Warsy??

This is so not JtL related, and if you're having this crisis of realization now, it's your own problem. The information and subsequent wailing has been all over the boards for weeks. Reporting this as offtopic now that the question has been asked and answered.
