Thread: 3 extra parking slots for Digital DL ONLY?!!!

I have been a pilot since Beta. I am a strong and very active supporter of JTL. I organize

events, I try to encourage PVP, I deffend JTL almost to a fanatics level. I have quit my

ground "job" and have made space my only source of credits and FP. JTL is ALL that keeps me

playing SWG. . And I am not alone. There are many many pilots who strongly support JTL. I

love it and now I feel that I am being punished

What about all of the loyal pilots who can't (slow connections) or simply don't want to do

the DDL? I personally like to have the box and the book and the other literature that comes

with getting a game from a store. This is stupid. 100% stupid. EVERYBODY should get the

extra slots. People have been begging for them since day 1 of JTL. The JTL community is a

small one, and chances are the people who will be using the DDL will probably not even

want/need the extra ship slots as most people only use JTL as a means of free

transportation.

I will not be geting the DDL. If I do need or want more ships I'll just keep the deeds and

parts in a backpack until I need them.

Yet another in a string of poorly thought out ideas for "rewards". At least you people are

consistant.

All I have to say to SOE and the "devs" is best said by the Emperor...

It's nothing personal. It's marketing. Notice how there are different rewards depending on how and when you buy it? The purpose for that is many players will buy all of them so that they can get all the rewards.

Whuhappened?

Easy killer. They guy is expressing grief over the fact that to get a certain reward he needs to download the expansion.

I'm getting the DD myself, but I agree completely with Thradd here. Giving away unique ITEMS as incentive for aquiring software in one fashion or another is one thing; Needlessly handicapping a large segment of the playerbase this way something else altogether.

6 slots instead of 3 is a fundamental game design feature/convenience itemthat ALL players should have access to. This is a very VERY incorrect decision by SOE, and quite honestly is setting a bad precedent. Why punish your playerbase for something as basic as how they buy your product? You're getting their money regardless right?

As I said, throw in items and trinkets or whatever as incentives, but don't go making people play the game inmeaningfully different fashions like this just because they paid their good money on a box in a store instead of over the net. Why are they pushing people into the DD this way anyway?

Downloads mean no cost for producing a box, CD, or manual. No shipping charges, no worries about stores getting in too few copies of the game, and generally fewer hassles overall. Lower costs means more money from the sale goes directly to SOE/LA, and the game can be picked up by anyone willing to download it, which is both a blessing and a curse for those who live outside major cities. Blessing because of the ease of getting it, curse because they rarely have DSL/Cable. All in all, it just makes more sense to release expansions through download.

There's no doubt in my mind that those who did not purchase the DD will get extra parking slots in the near future, this is just incentive to buy it now.

True on all counts, but I would think that despite the hassles/cost of shipping boxes a software company would still covet the hard marketing/visibility/product awareness that putting boxes on retail shelf space provides. This all goes back to the brick & morter vs Digital arguments that are as old as the internet i guess, and is out of the scope of this thread. Perhaps an internet-based game such as this feels it less, or needs it less, but I'd imagine that having the goodwill of software retailers by keeping shelves stocked is still a valued partnership.

In any case, pity the poor store-buyers who apparently will pay more for the RoTW expansion because of overhead, and will get LESS to show for it. And this 'less' is something that can't be swapped, bought, grinded for or aquired in any other fashion. And has animpact on how you play the game, as oppossed to a pair cool-looking sunglasses. Just seems a bit arbitrary and harsh to me.

Feynan, I'm sure, is correct. I'd be suprised if they kept the discrepency over month after the box release of RoTW, if they stick to it at all.

The implication could well be that people who use the DD option will get the extra ship slots first. The boxed version won't be available for a few weeks after the DD is up and ready to go.

Extra ship slots will be a near requirement for RotW, what with all the new ships they've added. They wouldn't restrict it to a small segment of the population.

What third world country doesn't have cable modem access yet?

Seriously though, you should think about upgrading. DDL is the best thing to happen for gamers since the internet.

The announcement says

The ability to own and command so many new ships led us to think about adding additional ship storage as another exclusive benefit of the Digital Download.

I'm not entirely sure how you could interpret "exclusive" to mean "we're giving it to everyone, but you guys get it first".

And I seriously doubt that extra ship slots would be a "near requirement". A nice luxury, to be sure, but you realistically don't need more than the three they give you with JTL.
