Thread: 3 extra parking slots for Digital DL ONLY?!!!
And yes I can think of reasons for 3 ships, cuase I really only have two ships, what with my yacht.
Wow amazing how everyone feels they are personally attacked by SOE....
Its a wonderful reward, and yeah you get rewarded when you invest your money into them. I for one am getting the download and everyone has an option to get the download as well. I dont see what the hissy fit is all about?
So you have a slow connection. You can either upgrade your connection to something faster, (cable or DSL) or you can actually get the download and let it sit there downloading the new content while you sleep and then go to work, that is16 hours, or you can choose to not get the download.
There three options for you. Not for nothing but SOE is not attacking anyone personally... Its absurd to have that type of mentality torward a game that you are paying for. Lets face it like the man said in one of the posts above mine, ITS MARKETTING!

Seriously though, you should think about upgrading. DDL is the best thing to happen for gamers since the internet.
That would be right here on this little Air Force base in Del Rio, Texas. To give you an idea of the size of the town...there are 2 McDonalds. And one of those is in Wally World (aka Wal-Mart)
Down here in this little border town we've got 56Ks of dial up madness!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people believe that SOE owes them something.

It's not a hissy fit, pal, it's called venting. I pay cash money for a service. If I am unhappy with that service what am I supposed to do? Just suck it up and keep my mouth shut? Not in this life time.
I KNOW it's marketing. However, there is such a thing as poor marketing and bad business. What SOE does all too often is bad business. And as such, if I feel like I'm being cheated then I'm going to say something. My right as a paying customer.
And I KNOW the SOE execs aren't in their offices saying "Hey...lets really stick it to that Thradd guy today." I know this. Again, I am venting how this makes me feel. A right that I pay $15 a month for.
You gave 3 options....lets have a look at those...
Option #1 Upgrade Connection: Do you honestly think that I chose to have 56 horses under my hood? Obviously being an online gamer and Star Wars fan I am a geek. And most geeks LOVE technology. I am one of those geeks. Living in a technological wasteland is not my idea.
Option #2 Get the Dl and let it sit for 16 hours: Do you think I haven't already thought of that? OF course I have. If it would only be 16 hours that would be easy. It took well over 38 hours and 3 disconects while at work to get the CU. When I first got SWG (April 04) it took 5 days to get all patched up. So I imagnine RotW will take quite some time. Because the connections, even the dial up connections, are so bad down here you have to stay on top of them. I have two jobs and can't sit and babysit my computer all day to recontect every 3 hours.
Option #3 Don't get the DDL: This is the option that I have gone with. And because of this it seems I will not be getting a needed pilot "reward". Thus, it SEEMS like I am being punished for not having a high speed connection. Will SOE make the extra slots available to all players? Maybe, maybe not. I would like to think that they will, but we all know that while we may have faith in SOE they can be...unpredictable at times.
After reviewing your 3 options I have decided there is a 4th:
Option #4 Reassignment: I could simply go to my commander and ask her to transfer me to a base that has DSL/Cable. Why didn't I think of that before?! "Excuse me Col.....can I get a transfer to Lackland AFB so I can get a better internet connection so I will be able to download something that would take me at least 36-48+ hours to download here on this AFB? You will? Thank you ma'am /salute"
Do I think SOE owes me something? No. Not at all. What I do expect are for the people in charge the reward system to think how how what they do effects each and every customer (and maybe to come up with some better rewards....you have to admit...some of the rewards over the past 2 years have been pretty lame).
Using rewards as a marketing tool is a time tested marketing tactice. Rebates, prizes in your cereal, buy 1 get one free. I run a bar on my off duty hours and give away drink specials all the time. But in a game where all anyone ever talks about is "ballance" giving away something like this as a reward isn't fair. Givng away mounts, or vehicles, or other little trinkets won't tip the ballance of game play. This could.
At best not having the slots is a minor inconvenience. I can always just pack ships up in back packs and unpack them and equip them as needed. So why am I b!tching about it? Because it bugs me. I can't get stuff fast because it takes too long to download. I can't get special perks that I think are very cool because it takes too damn long to download. I can't play Xbox live with other friends, downloading music takes 20 hours....it gets to be a pain in the ass and is very very frustrating.
Besides...who else am I going to vent to? I tried to vent to my dog about this and all I got was the tilted head "huh?" look that labs do oh so well. I tried talking to my wife about it and damn it if I didn't get the same look. So I talk to my geek family. Some can relate some can't.
I've been playing for over a year and I plan to stay until the yday they shut the servers down for good. But until then, if they do something I don't like you better believe that I'm going to say something about it. Might as well get used to it now.

Nothing personal but Digital Download is a FREE way to make money. Here is why.
Cost of disc: NIL
Cost of Manufacturing: NIL
Cost of packaging: NIL
Cost of delivery: NIL
Cost of Distrabution: NIL
Money Delivery: Instant
Profit: 100%
Developers salaries
Extra servers for Kashyyyk/Kashyyyk space
Couple of terabytes of bandwith
Sure they'll make a profit, but it won't be 100%. But hey, it's a business. It isn't a lifelong dream of SOE to make an SWG mmo. They're in it for the money.
I do agree with you, vet rewards like furniture, miniatures, vehicles, mounts and the kits, sure. But don't makerewards out of basic gameplay elements like this. Everyone who gets RotW should get the 3 extra slots.

How are we defining "basic gameplay elements"? Because it seems to me that we don't NEED more than 1 ship slot. 3, while a bit restrictive, is an extremely workable number. 6 is lovely, but hardly a necessity.
There isn't a boxedRotWanyways. The one that'll be avaialbe in stores is SWG: The Total Experience, aka the all-in-one pack. Oh, and even if you use the CD you still need to download the patches, so you won't actually save much time really.
