Thread: A question...

Hi everyone. I'm itching so bad to play this game... got it installed and everything. The only problem is that my video card doesn't work with the game. Now I have to wait for Amazon to deliver the video card I need, since no stores around here carry the one exact card I need. Well, I waited 2 years for the game, what's a few more days, right?

Anyway, I'm planning on becoming a Medic to start, hopefully following the path to Combat Medic. I wanted to ask a few questions:

1) Is this occupation as big of a hassle as everyone makes it seem on this message board?

2) What server isn't too crowded? I don't want to start playing in a place where 5,000 people already have a head start on me.

3) Does anyone have any suggestions, as far as starting out, what skills I should concentrate on first?

4) How is the best way to conduct working in a hospital? Asking for tips? Asking for resources? Relying on the good nature of the patient to pay?

5) In battle, are the other group members usually fair in splitting up the credits/loot? I don't want to get short changed.

Anyway, that's all of my q's for now. I can't wait to play this game!!!!

ok ill answer as best as i can.

1- It can be but it can also be great for meeting new friends. It definitly has it's ups and downs

2- Not sure,,when you create a character,,it should tell you which ones are full or light

3- Start as an artisan,,pay to become a medic. You will need surveying to gather your inorganics. In the medic tree the first thing you should do is make stims and stim entertainers till you reach OC1 (organic Chem 1)

4- Different ppl play different ways. My way doesnt seem to agree with everyone. Basically if it's buys,,i charge for priority. If it isnt,,i just heal as i go. Dont ever depend on patients for everything you need, you will be broke and starving in no time.

5- In Battles,,if you actually get any resources or loot,,count yourself extremely lucky. I only go with friends now or ask for some compensation up front.

Thanks a lot, Map. I figured being a medic would be cool because I would get to meet a bunch of player and also because they would be semi-dependent on my skills to survive.

I was considering starting as an artisan, but I wasn't quite sure how the details worked out. I had read in places that it is best to start as an artisan because you get a surveying tool or something. Is that why you suggested it? Also, you can place harvesters to gather the resources you need to make stimpacks. If I start as an artisan, I can alter the stat points to fit what I would normally start with as a medic, right? I think I read that in the strategy guide.

Thanks also for your input about the combat situation. I was looking forward to actually going out and getting fighting experience. Now I know to work out a deal of sorts with the group members as far as my cut of the loot.

I'm assuming the loot will start getting better as one progresses on killing higher lvl mobs...

but I'd say at the lower lvls don't even bother "requiring" your grp to have a "split-the-loot" policy.

You'll want to concentrate on your medical crafting and general medical experience. Survey and gather as an artisan, craft stim and wound packs, then either heal by:

a) chilin out in the cantina healng dancers or musicians... nice and relaxing...

b)hanging out in the hospital and waiting for the injured to come in...

c) or... watch for groups to announce they're going on hunting trips and join up. Unlike alot of other MMORPG's the group really doesn't have to share their combat experience with the healers... so they are more than happy to have a medic tag along... even if you're a little lower "lvl" char. Just be careful you don't aggro something and die!

I have been reading pretty much everything on the boards because I have no other option at the moment. I'm dying to get this stupid video card so I can play. I bought it today on E-Bay... got a pretty good price, but I had to fight off this other guy who seemed like he really wanted it (who knows? Maybe he's in the same situation as me!)

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I can't wait to get started.

Hello,

The question: Should my Bothan marksman/scout wear armor or clothing? Which would be better for straight-out combat? I plan to make him either a bounty hunter or smuggler, and I'm aiming to mostly focus on combat. Any suggestions would be welcomed, thanks .

Until you get the really badass armor, it's pretty much just for looks, so wear whatever you want (Akasha in Mos Tatoo makes some sweet clothes, by the way).

As a marksman, you want to attack from a distance anyway, right? So what good is armor going to do against ranged attacks?

I started a Bothan on Starsider a few days ago and I plan to make him a BH. I know that BHs have enough extra skill points to spend in another profession, considering I ladvance to master BH. I'd like to know which profession I should take up. I've heard alot advancing into CH, but I'm a bit cautious about doing it myself, considering the seemingly giant nerf bataimed at their heads. I'm going to stick with a pistol once I get novice status, so maybe I should go pistoleer and get the extra bonuses? I dunno. Any opinions are accepted, thanks.

Medic is considered a highly recomended skill, for the firstaid ability that can stop bleeding.

After that, well you don't have that many points left over.

I'm going with some Medic skills. I will be able to make Stimpack B's and heal bleed wounds.

Do you have to be a creature handler to use a pre-tamed creature? Common sense would lead me to believe that you would have to at least be novice CH to use a pet, but just the other day a CH was running around offering to sell one of his pets. I asked him if I had to be a CH to use it, and of course he said yes, but I figure he was kind of biased on that situation seeing as how he was trying to make some money.

If anyone knows, I would be most appreciative. Thanks.
