Thread: Something that has completely bugged me about JTL

The whole travel thing is retarded. So here's my suggestion to make it a little more realistic, fun, and encourage community witht he players in SWG.

1. Kill the TRAVEL option from the starship terminal. Make it so if you have to go to another planet, you have to actually fly to the system. Also, make it so you have to fly to nav buoys in order to hyperspace, a la Eve Online. Makes the game much more realistic and will add a little excitement to the game if you have random encounters as you make your way to the nav buoy.

2. Increase the shuttle wait times again. 10 minutes is way too much, but I think 5 minutes would be all right. If you don't have any piloting skills, take the shuttle. Or catch a ride with a friend or a complete stranger. More often than not, people will give you rides for free anyway if they're going to the same place.

3. Make it open season PvP if you're flying a factional ship. Bottom line. This is a freaking Galactic Civil War!! Make it fee like it is. This will also make space more exciting. However, make it so that the open PvP is outside the radius of Nav buoys. That way, if you're just traveling, you can still be somewhat safe.

Comments? Suggestions? I typed this out kind of quickly, so I'll add more to it later on.

1) um, no. ravel is one of the best things to come to this game. if you want to fly, do so. don't push it on eveyrone else.

2) see #1. i lived thru no vehicles & 10 min time. it was not fun, it added nothing but a timesink to the game. if you want to stand around in the starport, do so.

3) considering space pvp is 1 or 2 shots from engage to destroyed, that is a non starter. there is a reason deep space is no decay and no one goes there. and most ppl will just fly the indestructable yacht. again, go overt if you wish, don't push your playstyle on everyone else.

4) this is an old discussion, rejected many times in the past.

if you want to

If you added this no one would ever get past tier 1 in any rebel or imperial squadron ever again.

A tier 1 ship vs a master ship (hell even a tier 2 ship) is instant death. It wouldn't even be a fight. A tier 1 engine cannot outrun nor out-turn a higher level engine. The lower level pilot would simply die.

This is a game, it's meant to be fun. Being slaughtered as you're trying to complete your first jtl mission by a gank squad would never be fun.

Also you can't kill the travel option since JTL is not required to play the game.

1. Will I agree removing the travel option would help immersion, however it's also extra time that doesn't need to be spent, just to travel to another planet. Launch ship, load space, choose hyperspace desination, wait for jump countdown, load new space, fly to station, choose to land, load ground vs. choose ship, choose destination, load ground area. Time is the big issue here. Now if they were to give a hyperspace jump right next to the station and lower the calculating time, this could be a more welcome change.

2. Again too much time. Yes it's only 5 minutes, however the chances of chatting/meeting with people while you wait are slimmer at a shuttleport than a starport. However I do feel 1 minute is too short. No win situation here.

3. Again I agree, but disagree. While I have yet to actually engage in space PvP, what I've read hasn't been enough reason to do so. It isn't the first time I've heard what &said. I totally agree that their needs to be more GCW"things" implemeted thoughout the WHOLE game.

The travel option is only for people who have JTL anyway, so removing it won't affect those who don't have it.

As for the topic, I'm not necessarily opposed to all of the ideas presented. However, I don't think they are appropriate for the game in it's current state. I think space and things to be done there need to be built up first. For now, space is more of a side-project to most people and making the changes that affect the ground game negatively to improve space just won't fly (excuse the pun). I've got many ideas on ways that space should have been implemented and the travel ideas do somewhat fit in but not at this point in the game.

Many people would simply stop at T4; this would discourage space activity.

While I think most wouldn't have a problem with it, those that do will stop it. Remember TEF?

Yeah, good points guys. But I think that there needs to be a decent reward for a perma-overt pilot. Thats why i think that masters being perma-overt is the solution. If you are willing to be overt all the time, you can have the ace title, and you can have the benefits of the master box.

I am torn though. Because my idea DOES sound like TEF, and I hated that system. Guess my idea wouldnt work.

How about a space system that works like the old jedi FRS?

dont have much to add to this subject but as a pilot , and I do love JTL, I still use the travel button whenever possible because I just dont want to take the time to go into space, jump to the next system and then travel to the nearest station and then land, I mainly do this when ever I am planet hopping to check my harvesters.

blessed be to all those who still dream of the flight to the stars.

Now thats the first sensible thing in this thread. I fly overt all the time, have never been killed whilst outside Kessel or DS yet.

Couldn't tell you on the FRS, but from the way the fan base has been asking for it's re-implementaion, it must have been something worthwhile.

Myself, I loved TEF, withina reasonable timeframe. Yes it made you PvP, but that was a risk to take when killing "the enemy" in the war. But like I said a resonable timeframe. The only TEF thing I didn't like was the bug introduced with the crackdown that made you TEFed until you "turned it off" at a base.
