Seriously, shooting at a light fighter for 2 minutes is just rediculus. This is not a destoyer or something, a freakin light fighter. Shields should take 2-3 hits at most and then 2 hits to the armor. Also these planes fly rediculusly slow.
Its almost not even twitch, just depends what kind of equipment you have. Only reason I'm still lvling up is that I'm hoping once you get to ace pilot it will be more realistic... is it?

it get's so realistic post ace you have to fly a space shuttle. with no blasters. and you can just barely orbit earth with no problems.

lol...get yourself leveled up to where you can use advanced components. The lower level components are crap (especially for someone that expects speed and firepower). Once you hit Tier 3 (I think) you can use engines with speed caps at about 80 or so which makes it a bit more "realistic".

I think it's just bad luck on your part. I have completed Tier 1 skills and I have had a different experience. This is on par with X-wing vs Tie and X-wing Alliance. Its great in my opinion!

Pilot requires a different mindset to the groundgame, one of finding actual tactics to combat different types of fighter, and knowing your limits. The ground-side, on the otherhand, is a lot more simple and straightforward, being more about combat level and using the right specials.
You might want to give the numberous FAQs in the pilot forum if you are prepared to stick with it, however. Anyone can learn to be a decent pilot with a bit of good old-fashioned paitence and persaverence.

I would agree that JTL isn't entirely within the "twitch" category like other space sims. The fact of the matter is it incorporatesa number of RPG elements that offset the pure skill of the pilot. In any other sim, if you are a good enough pilot you can take on just about anything you like. In JTL you may still be the best pilot there is, but if you are tier 1 your puny lasers will never dent a tier 5's shields.
Anyway, to get straight to the point: once you start tiering up the game will take on a much more familiar feel because you will no longer be gated by junky components, your ship will move at a more realistic speed, and you won't have to avoid things just because they have a higher number next to their name.

Even at teir one it should not be taking 2 min to kill another teir one and id just say you need to get some practice. But if your trying to take on some higher teir fighters then yeah, your ship probably just doesnt pack the punch to be on par with their armor and shields.

the lame part is needing to get 240k space xp to get all your tier 2 boxes and only getting 110 space xp per kill...NOW THAT IS FRICKEN LAME. That means I have to kill 2,182 ships before I can fill all my boxes...each ship takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute. At one minute that means 36+ hours for me to get all my tier 2 boxes... and 18+ hours at 30 seconds. That is just ridiculous, not to mention insanely boring.

You will get to the point were even Tier 5 fighters are easy to kill. At your tier try using no armour, no missiles and no chaff. Use the heaviest guns you can find, the heaviest shields, and make sure you get your droid commands like capacitor overload and weopon and engine overloads going. Dont worry about dying just repair and run back without blinking, always kill a tier higher then you and stay away from duty missions and your xp will go fast enough to train a few bubbles in one session of playing. Space combat may go somewhat slow at times, but there will be times you will wish things were a little slower.
