Thread: Group Mission aspect unfair to us

Dear All,

Having purchased JTL I wasn't to happy to discover that even if I had earned enough XP points I wasn't able to use them to level up as you have to complete missionsin orderto use your XP's to level up.

Also to complete these missions you have to be in a group with other pilots to help you. This aspect of the game I find very unfair and time consuming. If the missions were solo it wouldn't be so bad.

I cannot understand that the people who are responsible for designing JTL like this actually believe that this is what people would like in a game. Is this their idea of good gameplay, keep spamming or searching around for hours on end to form a group or find Ace pilots?

I dont mind the interaction aspect but not being able to level up unless you complete missions which can only be done in a group which you formed via hours of frustrating spamming or finding an Ace pilot isn't my idea of gameplay. Infact it makes me want to put the game in the cupboard !

What do you think? Let me know

I liek the grouping somewhat in JTL. But I dont like being forced and I cant stand having to do the same missions over and over again. Alot of my guild are in one squadron and I have had to do all the tier 3 missions for their squadron at least 5 times each. Its quite boring and not at all thought out.

But this is too be expected with the DEVs. Sometimes they never think ahead.

Hi

i agree with you as it can be very frustrating trying to find others to group with, specialy if you can only go on at certain times of the day or evening...

This is a MMO.. in case you've forgotten. Grouping is the best thing about JTL, and has brought the best experiences to SWG so far. All you people who think "grouping" is to get harder missionsneed to change your mindset.

Sandzibarr,

I find it hard to believe that you or other people could actually enjoy sitting arounda starship terminal "spamming", or running all over the place looking forpilots willing to help you for hours on end exciting and good gameplay?I find it rather boring as I said before.

But everyone is different.

well heart first off i agree with u completely for the most part. That is I dont think forced grouping for advancement is fair to "casual" players for whom finding a guild is already difficult and also for those of us who dont play till the odd hours (i work, i have night classesto get an advanced degree, and i have somewhat of a social life. so when do i play? at around 11-12 am for only 1 hour or so every other weekday; no weekends cuz i like to go out once in a while).

Also people tend to forget that in MMORPG, the MMO only describes the optional interface not that you MUST group. (hell even EQ figured out that making people group was bad... and thats EQ ffs).

Oh and another gripe is that sometimes the supposed upper tier "missions" are multi part which last for 2-3 hours total (involving search and destroy, escort, deliver, search and destroy again, and escort again)and that if you were to EVER break in any part of it, you need to redo the entire thing. Now given my limited playtime this is just crap...

but ok with all that being said, heartattack, dont give up. I've soloed every mission so far and i'm nearly done with tier 3 moving on tier 4... granted it was long andannoying and soloing tier 3 missions (especially those long ones) can be a royal pain, it's still "kinda" worth it... kinda...

bah who am i kidding...

i'm kewl with grouping and all that and do believe that "CONTENT" should have some aspects which are group oriented i.e. corvette, warrens, etc.; but "advancement" should definitely NOT be group oriented (nor should these missions be so god damn long >_< break them up ffs!)

O yeah and you asked why some people find it "fun" to spam lookin for help, well these people lead good lives; that is they have more play time and so have a greater chance of getting in a decent guild who readily have people play when they are online to help.

another thing just to answer some questions that may pop up: so why do i play SWG if i have so many issues? because it's less grind intensive than most other MMOs and i'm sick of playing as some dwarf/elf/undead/humanfighter/mage/priest/monk with cartoonish graphics...

I have to disagree on this one. I think that JTL has brought back an essential element to the game that has been very much missing for a long time with the widespread use of buffs and uber-composite armor on the ground. I'm a TKM/MD on Lowca and I can pretty much solo whatever I want (uber creatures, krayts, etc...nothwithsanding). However, it doesn't take long for this to get rather boring, running around by myself all the time.

JTL grouping is a bit tough right now I'd admit, mostly because it's so new and not as many people are top pilots yet. Many are on their way though. I for one wanted to solo pilot myself, but when I had to group for one of the tier 3 missions, it was the most fun I'd had in a long time and it reinforced how much I enjoyed the grouping aspect of the game.

If you really don't like the grouping aspect, that's fine, but since SWG was designed to be a MMO, with the upcoming CR and other things on the horizon, you may find other games more enjoyable longer term.

Personally, I'd prefer to be able to solo without having to have uber loot ship. On the other hand, I chat with people a fair amount and have had luck identifying a few people to help out. Several missions give me fits and I've had several I couldn't solo. With a pre-nerf engine, I'm at least competitive now with the insanely fast and ridiculously nimble tier 4 spawns.

However, I am very tired of dealing with:

  • Turrets that never miss.
  • Shields that continue recharge despite having no reactor (same with guns btw, capacitors should not hold charges that allow ai to fire for a full minute following disabled reactors).
  • Missions placed deliberately in areas that team with agro spawns.
  • Snotty mission trainers. It was funny. *ONCE*. The third time it is freaking annoying.
  • Three hour missions requiring you to repeat the entire series.
  • Crap loot that still comes from tier 4 fighters (or even more annoying, NO LOOT).
  • Physics. I should be able to chop power, flip 180, fire at trailing fighter, flip again, and boost away. The physics are frankly like a bad flight sim. And I'm still trying to figure out how ships on my tail never miss, while I can't hit a tie fighter that is dead in space. [NOTE: Dunelizard with two guns in the nose. Convergence is not an issue.)
  • Loot parts way better then crafted parts. (Teir 1 reactor with 13k+ output). Its mine and you can't have it.
  • Frankly, the most annoying thing, is the gated leveling. Ridiculous.

There is more...but you can read many of the threads to find 'em.

i soloed storm squadron. if you cannot solo the pilot missions then perhaps you either need to bone up on your piloting skills (i.e. twitch) or get some friends. Friends are easier to buy than skills.

What does MMO have to do with this? There're tons of different waysto play a MMO game including sitting there doing nothing butchatting with yourfriends. Gameplay in a MMO game<> team based or co-op at all times. Anyways, grouping forcontent/epic encounters could be fun, but repeatedly doing the samesomeone else'smission over and over ina groupso all your guildmates/friends can get it doneisn't fun at all. It's boring, stupid and tedious.

I wouldn't brag like that. The NPC AI has been changed several times... you know what I mean.

Group play is WHY i got SWG in the first place the fact that upto now it could all be done solo was the worst part of the game. You don't have our galixie listed but on Chimmera I run a player netowrk ,not guild based with mebers on line all the time, with that and my guild I can be in space with a group of 8 in about 5 mins.

Also reading some post's it would suggest if you spend time practicing and geting the best ship parts you can the missions can be done solo, if you want.

I likethe idea with grouping, but however I think you should have the option, you could either grind it like just killing stuff and then get master by solo, or you could do the missions and the missions you do would give you a reward. like it is now, free boxes, parts etc.. This way it would encourage the people that want to group up do do that or those that prefer solo to get master pilot. Solo levelling should not give any rewards. Only by doing the missions you should get the rewards.

When master you cannot start doing the missions because then you allready mastered it. This way you would satisfy both the solo players and the group players.
