First of all jousting sucks. How many 'dog fights' have you seen where the pilots run at each other blasting away...fly 1k out.. turn around and repeat? Good dog fights involve gaining an advantage, usually by trying to get behind your enemy. To be honest, the tier 4 ties are easier for me now. They come straight at me... I can disable them in a pass or two. It's just retarded WAITING for them to turn around and come back.
I bought JTL for the action, not waiting for NPCs to fly way beyound firing range so they can turn around and joust me.
I can honestly say JTL with the AI the way it is now is boring, and I love JTL.

I havent gotten in game yet, but from numerous posts I've read on this itseems to have taken all of the fun out of space combat. Although it does sound easier, it just seems that itll be boring and take little to no skill.

PLEASE leave the AI the way it is. The old AI was absolutely pathetic. In a 9 on 1 scenario, when every ship I am fighting is my own Tier or higher, I should lose. With the old AI, that just wasn't the case, and it was quite lame. Keep the new AI.
I will admit, when I first signed on yesterday, I was pissed. Specificly, because I had to learn to fight all over again. But it really only took a minor shift in tactics. Begin your decelleration and turn BEFORE the other ship passes, gun the boosters before you have your shot lined up, and trust the targettnig computer a bit more than you used to. You can also hit the targets even when the targetting computer does not register a shot. I do it all the time now.
Besides, the old way made no sense. I was flying against ships that were 2-3 times my speed, but had almost no protective shielding and armor. For them to fly in slow, close arcs with me was just plain silly. If a real person were in that ship, they'd be using hit and run tactics just to survive. Besides, you can still out corner your targets and fall in behind them (if I can do it in a Y-Wing Longprobe against TIE Advanceds and TIE Oppressors, I am sure it is doable with any other combo). You just can't do it EVERY TIME.
Keep the new AI. Practice.

Maybe easy for some masters o near masters, for less advanced pilot, and less advanced ships it`s more difficult, just the opposite to the logical.
Some hours ago i kill 5 Tie (advanced, bomber, fighter), in a row, and right now i die just with 2 of them, if you are "jousting" with one, the other kills you very fast...just annyoning, i don´t know what i am going to do, i am not a rich veteran, and i can`t aford repairs once and once, i spend a lot of money, and i am seriously thinking in cancel before i pay the first month...actually 1 month free.
JTLS was really funny till yesterday.
For new players watching this forum as i did during 3 months ago...if you are thinking to play solo this game, forget it, don`t waste your money like me.
I just pray they undo the AI changes, before my first month it`s nearly to finish.

The AI in the game is rubbish not a challenge at all (except when about 10 fighters swarm right behind me and almost take out my shields) atm i can almost take out an npc without looking the AI is so easy.
AI is the only part of the game i have a real problem with.

I did a little dog fighting last night and I agree, the AI speeds now are rediculous. I took on some teir 4 advanced ties and all they do is turn, ram head on, turn, ram head on, over and over. Are they to hard? no. I still took them out but jeezz, this aint dog fighting! If you wanna make AI harder make it so it takes more hits to kill them, make them roll or manuver a little more, not make them so dang fast it takes the fun out of it. No player ship is capable of going that fast even with the best top level parts. If we could get our ships to go that fast it wouldent be so bad, it would give us something to work towards like finding faster engines, But as of now it sucks.

make them roll or manuver a little more --> YES, PLEASE!
I think it's not too dificult to code the following behaviour for NPC:
NOT IN COMBAT:
They can fly in formation anytime. Easy coding, it's in the game already.
ENEMY ENGAGED:
Split formation, maybe make subgroups (a bit hard to develop) or just switch to "Melee Fight Mode" because since there is no possible collisions and/or friendly fire, the NPCs should focus only on destroying their target, no matter hitting your own wingmates.
But, please, make the NPC swing from side to side, 90ª turns, flip and turn... now it is soo easy once you got his 6... they should use between 4 and 6 different techniques depending on the level of the NPC pilot and the type of ship.

The new AI is very lame, easy to kill, and boring to fight against.
"But it really only took a minor shift in tactics. Begin your decelleration and turn BEFORE the other ship passes, gun the boosters before you have your shot lined up, and trust the targettnig computer a bit more than you used to. "

Actually you can just turn the targeting computer off. The AI is either flying straight at you or straight away from you. No need to worry about lead. A slight shift in tactics and you learned how to kill the new AI. And with those new tactics you have now experienced what every 1 on 1 confrontation will ever be. Now it's always, "He came straight at me, I flipped around and shot him in the rear as he flew away. And then we did it again."
I don't particularly feel the need to fight the new AI ever again. I've done it and it's always the same fight.
