thats cause youre one of the majority of people in our community that accepts mediocrity. becuase so many people bend over and take it, things never get better. things never reach their full potential because of people like you.

i agree with everything hes saying 100%. been playing JTL for a little over a week and the novelty and initial awe has worn off and im asking these very same questions...

tearing my hair out with anger and frustration trying to beat the master mission in kessel. but i cant, just keep getting griefed over and over. 3 (12 hr +) days in a row now.

and for what?

so i can crash into the invisible wall in the tiny cube we get to play in?

get killed in 1 shot in pvp because weapons surpass shields and armor by triple or more?

its sad but true people, i give myself maybe a few more days max before im on the ground again back to my old tricks. JTL is the reason i renewed my subscription and all i have to say is:

"it took them that long to make this?"

-tiny empty cube
-textures wrapped around it
-handful of 3d ship models
-some ok particle effects

3rd party, amateur modders could have put together a larger, more immersive world. while i love the controls, the physics and the starwars atmosphere there just isnt enough to do (or enough space to do it in) to keep me interested for much longer. that being said, i am disappointed in JTL.

jtl was made to add content but the content has no content....lol.

Well, it took about 2 weeks to get people bored. I haven't received my copy yet and i'm a bit afraid of the same problem. I'll master my prof in about 2-3 weeks and...?

Personally i like the EXPLORATION. I like Freelancer's EXPLORATION A LOT! I mean it's really cool - lots of different nebulase , space dumps, hidden pirate stations and other cool things. When u discovered hidden space graveyard, there might be some legendary loot.

+ they should make more options to the game - smuggling, pirate attacks (which can capture your multiplayer ships), transeferring the cargo, space dungeons... there are lots of interesting things toput in the game.

I hope devs will improve the content.

No, moreso it's the fact that the limited depth of this expansion is finally coming to light.

As for your comment, you sound SURPRISED that powergamers got through this so early. As much as I'm against powergaming, that's not THEIR fault. They're working towards yet another goal - it's SOE's fault for not making the path more engaging. I'm taking my TIME and I'm already 4343, and most of that was soloed.

For some of the people I know, getting Ace is just another badge for them, and ONE of my friends is SERIOUSLY pissed off that the Firespray isn't worth the credits he dropped on it.

Personally, I think JTL as it is now is just a mildly amusing credit sink, the first actual *effective* one SOE's made in this game (even though the chassis prices are paltry to well-or-moderately-established players). One can only hope that there's more in store for everyone, not just Aces.

We need trading missions, destroy missions with pay equal to ground missions (mokks not nunas), mining asteroids and stuff like that other than combat.

I think they should have scaled down all the space models by about 20x so the zones appear 20x bigger, a lot of other games did this including a lot of half-life mods (you cant even tell the difference until you look on the editor). We could have also had the planets actually 3D aswell.

What should I do?

  • PvP? Or should I say "who lands the first shot head on". Do I have an incentive to PvP in space? Does it even give FP for player kills? Is it worthwhile to have such tremendous decay on my expensive Tier 5 craft? Is there anything to fight over? Give me an incentive.

  • Missions? Are there any other higher level missions to do, anything at all? What are the incentive/rewards for completing them?

  • Build up prestige points? What for? You only need 50K to go to deep space, and prestige points are not used for anything else.

  • Put up with "drunken bees", "bounce backs", and the "ship invulnerability bug"? For what? Loot? Why collect loot if you are toasted in a couple shots in PvP regardless?

  • Try to take out the rebel base in deep space? I wonder, what happends when you accomplish this? Is there ANY other content left after this?

update: Nov 17, 2004 Problem solved: I've canceled my account. I will no longer be playing Star Wars Galaxies. Perhaps I might just return when they release the combat balance, and some actual Galactic Civil War content, rather than spending 8 months on a Jedi proffession that doesen't interest me. I'll be playing Worlds of WarCraft now.

Space right now is a hollow shell. Combat is in decent shape (in comparison to the ground game) but there is literally nothing to do.

-Exploration. Explore what? Space sectors are so small it's not even funny. Flying around in space shooting ships is nice, but there needs to be more.

-Space stations. I was talking to my friend about galaxies because he always wanted to try it but he won't because of all the bugs I tell him about. He's the type of gamer that wants a full experience. I told him how there were starbases, but players couldn't enter them. He was speachless.

-Commerce. Why aren't players piloting frieght cargo for credits? Why aren't those ships multipassenger with the ability for enemy players or NPC's to attempt to disable and physically board the ship. Tell me that wouldn't be a cool thing to have?

-Actual docking. What's the point of having a multipassenger ship when one can't even take on new passengers while in space. Let's say my ship becomes disabled. Couldn't I send a distress beacon and have a willing player give me a lift? It might not be the most time efficient method, but it would be fun.

-Mining. Such a basic concept in a star ways MMO that goes completely unnoticed. I wouldn't suggest adding new resources, but adding more of the rarer ones to space asteroids could help the game. Plus, imagine the game mechanics that would form from it. Miners would have to contract pilots to haul the frieght to their chosen location.

-Larger space sectors. In any given sector I usually end up hitting an invisible wall after 5-10 minutes. Is it me, or should space be vast? Why can't I travel fully around that large planet I see right in front of me? Why do I see other ships constantly. It's space. There should be zones that are HUGE. I mean, it should take a long time to travel throught a sector. With interesting and unique things to see/do in each of them

-Making the ground and space portions more like one game. As it is now, it feels like I'm playing two games. The ground and space. I mean, besides shipwright and their shops, I feel no influence of the space portion of the game on the ground. I can't land my ship anywhere I want. Granted, that is a very unreasonable request right now. But there are comprimises. Landing on a planet should simply place my ship in my datapad. That is just a pathetic shortcut and lacks imagination. The current starports should be redesigned to have a seperate hangar area where a pilot (and his group if nessisary) can enter an instanced version of the hangar that holds their current ship(s). Here they can swap parts, paint/texture their ship and program their droids for ship use. Also, there should be animations for entering the ship and its taking off to hide the loading. Also, showing the player avatar in space in the ship would help greatly to make it feel as if my character were actually in the game.

-Customize the HUD for each ship. I think it's beyond sloppy that a bastardized version of the ground HUD was chosen to be a pilots only interface in space. It's just lazy. The HUD should have actually been a part of the players ship. Imagine seeing your characters hands reach out to press buttons, or their movement to bring up a screen. Imagine the targeting in the X-wing actually being used, instead of a GIF. I don't know if anyone's played Earth n Beyond. It's a now dead space MMO. But what I can say about it is this: It had the best HUD I've ever seen in a space game. It was on another level compared to this. And while both HUDs gave the player the ability to pilot their ship, that games HUD did it with style. It was an actual 3-D representation of your character, and you would actually see the camera angle change and zoom in when he pulled up a viewscreen with a map of the current star system on it.

In closing, if the above expamples were implemented, I promise you SWG would be better for it. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect anything to be done. But as (I hope) some of you can see....JtL's potential, like space, is vast and infinite.

I applaud the starter of this thread. There was no complaining, no emotional outbursts, just voicing his/her concern that JTL lacks content beyond getting ace. Five stars for you.

I hope SOE will be adding content for space as we go along here. It's a daunting task now that there's two games they have to give equal attention to...ground and space. Suggestions here are how SOE makes improvements!

Though the amount of actual content beyond getting Ace might not be there yet, of course from all the ideas kicking around on this board I bet the Devs will have something for us soon.

Meanwhile, it's amazing how much 'content' can come from other players. I'll cite and commend the above poster for helping others through missions and getting xp. I mean, c'mon, it's a multiplayer game- if you're solo'ing it, you're missing the point. So, what can you do? Play with other people!

(warning: rhetorical questions follow- with answers!)

What sort of things can a group do? Well, we've all found out you can't do much flying that multiplayer ship yourself, now can you?

Load a team up, and GO! See how well it works out, trying to secure some position in space in that ship- as a pilot, as a gunner, as someone else on-board who maybe has the job of using repair kits on stuff as it gets blown apart. I mean, these skills might be necessary later on! The Devs came up with such deathtrap hellholes as the Warren, Geonosian lab, Deathwatch bunker, Corellian Corvette- it's only a matter of time before something similarly harrowing appears in space.

Similarly, by this point you've probably flown with at least one wingman to help you out.. havn't you?? Alright then, assume you have- do you work good together? Or is it a fustercluck of drunken bees in space? Take the same group of people loaded onto the MP ship, and have everyone load into their own fighters- that's more firepower than the individual MP craft has, surely. So go PvP with someone else trying to break in their crew on an MP ship.

Or faction permitting, try taking on that Star Destroyer- you have some better chance when the gun emplacements are split among your entire wing, right?

Work on the tactics involved in fighter wing vs fighter wing combat- sure you can split up and try solo'ing each enemy fighter, but you might remember how effective it was when there was some coordination within a wing, pilots coming to another's aid- one person leads and tries shaking the enemy fighter, and a friendly wingman comes up behind them.

...Okay, admittedly, after a lot of this kind of group flight training, things might seem bland again. But then again, most of the movie characters spent more time on the ground than in space anyway.

If it's any consolation, it was stated in beta that more content and more ships were definitely on their way.

everything will improve with time. in ground game it did, however, improvements, although many, were not so good.

but, jtl has been very well done so far. at this rate and seriousness of jtl devs, when jtl is improved as much as the ground game, it will be perfect.
