I'm not too sure how the mass works on crafting items but I do know this...What's the point of being able to use a level 8 equipment that weighs 40-50k a piece on tier 4? That one piece of equipment weighs more then at least half of the ships you can fly and is utterly useless. At tier 4 putting more then one level 8 weapon on a ship causes a big problem. For the bigger player ships I can understand it but when it comes to blasters for something like...oh...I don't know...the A-wing....It's impossible to put a strong gun on the ship without it being the only piece of equipment on the thing. If a-wing isa last tier vehicle cert....shouldn't it be able to use more of the better equipment and be more of a threat in combat? People are doing tier 4 missions in their Y wing still because the y wing can hold the mass of the better weapons...Something needs to be fixed about this.
I was excited to use an a wing and zip around npcs but truth be told it was nothing more then aheavier z95. It can only hold one gun and one missle launcher....A tier 4 ship with One gun is a pee shooter wearing Kevlar. The a-wing is supposed to be known for its speed and quick killing ability....not something to say "yeah i have an awing and i DONT USE IT because my y-wing can actually kill things"

The A-wing is a fast attack ship, its for speed. Nowhere in the history of Starwars has it ever been a bomber, or a major attack vessel. Its ment for speed, a quick hit and run, not a bombing run. If you want guns and shields get a X-wing or Y-wing.

Then what are you complaining about? Are you mad because the A-wing cant hold the same amount as a X or Y wing? Its called balance, all the ships are different. Since the A-wing is ment for speed you would focus on speed instead of power, so probably 50-80% of the mass will be from the engine and reactor perhaps. But apparently you dont seem to understand. You use the speed as a strength, to your advantage. If you want to use attack power as your strength and advantage choose a X or Y wing.

Well I think you underestimate the fast attack craft. First off, yes the A-Wing does not take a lot of mass, however it doesn't need it. It is a light craft that is very maneuverable and has a very small target profile. Second, just because you can use heavy weapons doesn't mean you need to. The A-wing is the most agile ship in the game, and that is invaluable, especially in PvP, second it has a missle launcher, which gives it a big advantage over the other agile craft. (TIE Interceptor, TIE Advance) Third there are weapons at level 8that are not 40-50k mass and many lower level weapons that still deal a great deal of damage. (I myself fly a TIE Advance with 2 level 7 weapons) This means that you have to be smart in setting up yourA-Wing, do you want missles for a quick sweep in, dump missles and flee, or to have a heavy laser that can chew up shields. Or do you want heavy shields and armor? The fastest engine available? All of those will offer you an advantage, butwhich you want is the whole point of themass system.

I would also say, put in a reactor that has justenough power for all your systems. Anything more than that, and it's a waste of power. This would also help with mass, since you'd be more than likely using a lower level component, and thus, lower mass.

THE A-WING

Was never mend as a heavy bomber/support ship, it's small badly armored, shielded andgunned compared to the X-Wing and Y-Wings and especially the B-Wing.. but the A-Wing has something the others don't.. It's insanely fast and maneuverable, and can pull tighter turns and rolls than any others ships in the galaxy...
Conclusion:
Do you want a be daring and challenge the posiblilities in your piloting skills with a "scouting / interceptor" ship... Fast andmaneuverability then you should go with the A-Wing....
Do you wanna play it safe and go home to mom crying each time you locate an imp who kills you... go with the multipurpose X-wing, not the fastest ship but able to do quick turns (not like the A-wing) and carry alot of firepower/shielding/armor....
Do you feela bit more experienced and confident in your pilot skills.. or do you got a fighter wing to protect you... then the Y-Wing/B-Wing is your plane... heavy bombers able to carry ALOT OF WEAPONS, shields, armors.... but very slow, kind a like flyinga bus/truck in space, slow turns, and not to fast... but can deliver alot of havoc if played right!!....
So, next time you start whining about a ship not being able to do what you like... maybe you should read into some knowledge about the starwars history... then you would allready known that an A-wing can't do all that stuff you wanted... so grow up and become a better pilot.. then you might qualify to using such a wonderful craft.. instead of ruining it's reputation by whining about it... just because you can't handle to pressure of flying such a beautifull spacecraft!!!!
(following where added in when edited)
I would allmost give my right arm to be able to fly the A-Wing but it sadly does give some troubles when beeing imperial.. so the Tie Advanced / intercepter must do for me!!... so don't whine about such a great craft... i flew as a rebel in the beta so i know what it can to and not do.. and the A-wing is well balanced compared to it's purpose and abillities.

I love my A-wing. It can't carry alot of stuff, but it doesn't need to. A nice 1300 pt shield, a 2500 pt blaster and a 92 speed 65 turn rate engine and pretty much all my other stuff is just there to fill the niche. I don't have much armor, but I don't need it. Since I've started flying my A-wing I've been destroyed once and that was while trying to solo my third tier 4 mission. Other then that one time (which involved fighting about ten tier 4 TIEs and a Gunboat all at once) nothing has ever gotten through my shields, and thats through about 2.5 million xp worth of killing mostly tier 4-5 fighters.
The A-wing is just perfect as is, it's a ship designed for people who love a good dogfight. I have zero complaints about it, you just have to know what you're doing and not try and act like you're outfitting an Y-wing.

exactly my thoughts.
A-Wings have superior turnrates, acceptable mass and a very small profile.
It isnt meant to carry L8 components all over.
And its possible to mount a L8 Gun, a halfway decent engine and a shield. you have to sacrifice armor, boosters, and need a very light reactor.
atm i use a L7 loot gun, an L3 reactor, L6 engine, L7 shield, L1 droid interface and a L4 Booster. no CM, no Missles, almost no armor. dont have any problems to kill any ships. (exept gunboats).
and if your complaining about mass - look at the imps - they have REAL mass issues
so if you dont like the mass restrictions of an awing - save your money and stick with an X-Wing. nobody forces you to use it.

as an imp pilot, I must say, every enemy is cool, I have low to no resistance on any rebel ship, xcept that frikin' A-WING, that thing is a huge pain in the a$$, even when I'm in my interceptor, they give me hard time to catch, and hard time to hit cause they're just too small. and that's NPC A-WING, I wouldn't engage a PC A-wing, no way, I'd rather hyperspace to the nearest station right away.

I refuse to fly anything else. The A-Wing is EVERYTHING that I wanted in a ship. As long as I choose my engagements carefully (i.e., no turreted ships), it's impossible to lose.

You can deal with it. Look at Imperial and Privateer ships. Rebels have _NO_ room for complaints.
