Thanks guys, im not the only one who sees the ignorance in this guys post. I was 3/3/2/2 privateer and i droped it and started all over as Rebel pilot just for the A-wing and B-wing, why you ask? Because unlike the author of this thread, i know my Starwars and i know how the ships usefullness comes into play. Now...somebody call an undertaker, this thread is dead. /endlamejoke

Dude if u think the a-wing needs a mass increase u should see the imp fighters

IThe TIE Intercepter should have 60k like the a-wing

The TIE/In should have 75k mass so it makes sense that the TIE Interceptor is faster than a tie fighter

TIE Fighter should get 68k mass

TIe Advanced needs 100k mass

TIE Agressor needs 130k mass since its 1st to be a bomber and a fighter

TIE Bomber needs 220k mass since its a bomber

and other ships should also get mass increases.

Eh? The TIE Advanced is already equal or superior to the A-Wing in every respect:

A-Wing: 80k Resources ~65k mass [SP: 1 Guns] 1 missile[Spdx 1.0 Acc 40 Dec 60 Pitch 250 Yaw 250 Roll 125]
TIE-Adv: 80k Resources ~65k mass [SP: 2 Guns] 1 missile[Spdx 1.0 Acc 40 Dec 60 Pitch 300 Yaw 300 Roll 150]

TIE Adv has the same mass, speed, accel and decel as the A-Wing, 20% higher pitch/yaw/roll AND double the gun slots.
The TIE Advanced has the A-Wing clearly out-gunned and out-maneuvered.

The Privateer ships have all received mass increases.


And the Tie Advanced has nearly identical stats to the A-Wing with the exception that it carries one more gun and is more maneuverable.

When it comes to the A-wing, I think of the saying of Mohammed Ali (sorry if I mis-spelled that). "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee".

The Awing has crappy lasers, its sole missle launcher is for concussion missles (not very powerful but very hard to dodge) but it is fast and maneuverable.

Back in beta, I started a thread titled "Ship Issues". Some of you may have remembered it, and a few people added to it and we got a dev response. We proposed that the fast attack ship have low mass but be really fast and maneuverable while the big bomber ships have a huge mass, but are slow and sluggish. Before this post, the Awing did have the largest mass but afterwards everything was properly balanced.

Now the reason why level 8+ items have such a high mass requirement is mainly because they are designed for the big bombers or more so, for the multi player ships. The single man fighters are supposed to use level 1-7 equipment (Bombers use level 5-7 weapons and sheilds and level 1-5 engines while the fast fighters use level 1-5 weapons and level 5-7 engines).

The thing that is really nice with this current system, and what makes it good, is that the ships you use is based on your play style. If you really want a powerful ship, go with the Ywing LongProbe. If you like fast maneuverable ships, go with the Awing. If you like a good mix, the Xwing and Bwing are for you. Also, if you do choose an Awing, you could put in 1 level 8 weapon and the rest of the components can be level 1. I personally would find this silly, but every pilot has there own preference and JTL lets you excersise that preference.

Agreed Now we'll have to wait and see how space balance turns out in the most important form--who outNUMBERS who. I'm thinking we'll see a whole lot of TIE-Adv vs A-Wing, but who knows.

With a lighter ship you have to make choices. If A-Wings could equip the same gear as, say, a B-Wing, why would anyone fly a B-Wing? Ever? You have to make sacrifices for their speed. The alternative would be to give it no mass restriction, load it up with gear, and have it FLY like a B-Wing. So make some sacrifices. In the Star Wars canon, A-Wings had virtually no armor. Once you punched through their shields, it was another hit or two, tops, to blow the ship to pieces. They also had weaker shields than an X-Wing. They were essentially a screaming-fast engine with two moderate damage guns strapped to the sides. I think the mass, and the fact that the A-Wing is the fastest ship viable in endgame (and perhaps in the whole expansion), reflect this nicely.

A-Wings have the same speed modifier as Tie Advanceds, with nearly identical stats. The Tie Advanceds do have more guns and slightly better acceleration along Y/P/R, but they're quite well-balanced.
