I got this idea from the thread about Alderaan as a PvP area, but I think it deserves its own space to breathe. Collision should cause damage in PvP zones. It's that simple.
Look, they turned it off for both asteroids and other ships in the PvE zones because, well. . . because the AI isn't smart enough not to go bashing into things. And, for that matter, the "still learning" pilots probably have some trouble with it as well. But if you really are a "Master" or "Ace" pilot, you should be able to avoid huge, slow moving pieces of rock.
And you should have more tricks up your sleeve than racing at your enemy, flying THROUGH their ship, and doing so again. Turning on collision and collision damage would add a whole new dynamic to the fighting. It would also help swing the balance in PvP away from the super-fast ships that just make infinite strafing runs. Simply put, when a TIE Interceptor plays chicken with a B-Wing, the Squint should lose unless someone breaks away. And yes, the same thing goes for an A-Wing and an Oppressor.
The best of the best should be able to handle collision. And it will add a new layer of strategy to PvP areas where asteroids are concerned, by actually making tactics out of using the static objects in the zone as defensive or offensive obstacles.

Activate collision in ALL areas. Biggest disappointment is bouncing off asteroids and trees.

Once they work out the AI collision issues, I'd like to see it everywhere myself. But in the mean time, it'd be nice to at least have it in PvP areas. Barring that, scale the damage from collision based on either your Tier or else the "general difficulty" of the zone you are in. So that the pleebs who can't even handle the new AI won't cry bloody murder when they barrel headlong into a chunk of rock so large it fills their screen.
Oh snap, did I just say that?
Why yes, I think I did.

No one reads the discussions. They opted NOT to have collisions for one reason griefers. Build a cheap Z-95 ram that expensive firespray or b wing, since they are all fairly small fighter craft logically both are destroyed and who loses?
It was too easy to abuse and I agree.

Exactly why it needs to be implemented in the PvP zone only.
And no one would complain why?
It would generate a stupid amount of complaints, this is one of the few things I think the Devs are doing right. It is tedious, and annoying. There are some realities that are better left in reality.

Just turn collision on for asteroids and NPCs, not Players, cept maybe if they were in a duel, a pvp zone, or both overt. I would be happy with that,I would love to be in a PVE zone on a mission and try to acctualy lose npc's in the asteroids, I fly thru them alot trying to not hit them, I only hit them everynow and then with a little clip on the wing or something like that.

That isnt as easy as it sounds, but it's not a bad idea. I doubt it is possible in an MMO at this point in the technology, in a stand alone game sure but not on this scale.

I can't really argue with that, because whether or not PvPers would complain about damage from hitting rocks is, at the moment, baseless on both sides. You don't have a solid basis saying they would, and Idon't have a solid basis saying they wouldn't.
AllI can do is offer my opinion that, if I was in a PvP zone, fighting another ace and having to watch out for asteroids that would be complete blast!

Actually, it is possible even now, because, for a short while, it was turned on in beta. They turned it off for the above griefing reason.
In fact, I took damage the other day from lightening inside a nebula. It took my shields down a bit.
