Thread: We should be paid to PvP

...and not just when we kill other people. It should be balanced so that anyone who wants to go overt can sustainably PvP (without regular money grinds) using medium level ships. If you're good you would get higher pay, and so be able to use better gear.

As there is nowhere to hide in space, it could be based on the amount of time you are overt for. Another possibility would be to get paid whenever you kill or get killed, although paying someone when they die seems a bit strange

Are you talking about player bounties on non-Jedi? Because otherwise, just paying someone for killing someone else seems like a massive exploit. Actually, they still have to figure out a way to make player bounties non-exploitable.

Uh, I'm talking about the devs giving us a reason to go overt and fight each other. At the moment all we get is decay...

i say give us a ship that we can convert in PvP only, so we can only attack/ get attacked by PCs, I have no clue how hard that would be to implement, but i think it would make PvP more worthwhile.

Oh, almost forgot, That PvP ship should have very little to no decay, just a thought.

The problem with this idea is that shipwrights get screwed. If we got paid for PvPing then shipwrights would still get a lot of business, but pilots wouldn't find themselves with empty wallets. I suppose a disadvantage of my idea is that we don't get 'attached' to our ships at all. If we loot a good component it won't give as much excitement as we know it'll just be gone in a few days. Maybe a mix of both is best?

Well hell lets just tax every PvEer 10% on all earnings and split amount the Overts, just for being so elite, special and our superiors.

Sorry I shouldnt get so upset over every PvP elitist crackpot theory the CSR data shoes they are a vast minority and noe of these dumb ideas will ever happen.

Though this is SOE and they are prone to lunacy, so they may give into these stupid ideas.

All war should come at a cost.. that's the nature of it, something to make it worth avoiding, or do it well enough to discourage stupid behavior.

With this in mind, there really should be some incentive for any PvP activity, but it should be related directly to the GCW in some way. For example in one thread in the GCW forums I posted a GCW system where combat in space contributed to control of the space system. For PvP, a PvP kill would contribute to a system defense fund a value equal to (say) 10% of the value of the target, which increases your chance of controlling the system when the factional defense funds are compared over resets.

PvP need not always have tangible, direct benefits, particularly with the destructiveness of space combat, but there does need to be a -reason- to do so. I don't think direct payouts is a good idea, since it doesn't relate to the war in any way.

Unfortunately the Devs haven't got far enough (that we can see) to know how they will relate all combat activities to the war.

Or maybe we get the thrill/rush/excitement of PVP?? Hmm??

My armor decays on the ground when i PVP, and i dont get paid while doing it - my armor on the ground costs about as much (in relative decay time) as my armor in space... armor on ground = 300k, armor in space = 30k and decays 10x faster. (Actual numbers may vary on your server, but i'll bet the comparison is close to the same)

If you think of PVP as nothing but a decay sink, then by all means feel free to NOT PVP. People getting in the mind set of a decay sink leads to frustration, which leads to hate tells, and hate tells are a pain to deal with when you're flying.

I don't PvP on the ground, but ever since making Ace, whenever I'm in Kessel I'm overt.

The only time I've died thus far was on the last day Kessel was open PvP and I slowed down to trail a gunboat. I think I was going about 179kph when I got kicked from behind.

Never again.
