This may have been asked before but does anyone know if we have to have a joystick to play JTl?

As far as I know, you can use keyboard, mouse or joystick.
But I think, you'll get best results using a good joystick.

Lucky me...got my old Microsoft Sidewinder PP back from my brother. Shot down a lot of Ties in the good old times of XvT...

I remember them mentioning there would be joystick support but alot of folks at the demo liked using the mouse. I for one have already pulled out and dusted offthen re dusted off my flight stick.

I need a new stick as well. My old MS Sidewinder ForceFeed Back is not compatible with XP. I have been totally out of sim games since Mechwarrior 4 and looking forward to JTLS. Any suggestions on a new stick?

I Just bought the Logitech Freedom 2.4, the wireless one. It's awesomly sweetalicious. I love wireless, makes it sooo easy. I have been using it with XWA and kicking Major Butt. It's fully 3D and has 10 buttons with Throtle.

And best yet, newegg had it for 48 bucks!

If your looking for a new joystick you'll want to decide on what you want for functionality, ease of use, and your price range. An excellent stick would be any Logitech brand. I have been completely satisfied with these. They have good series of buttons and usually a decent throttle control and they are decently priced. I think most sticks run under $50

Another good company is Saitek. They have a study contstruction and almost all of there controlers are adjustable. This is good is your hands feel ackward on other joysticks as it allows you to completely customize the placement of your hand for a comfortable and ergonomic fit. Saitek also sports one of the more advanced controlers the X45 Flight Contoller. This is designed for the flight sim buff. It it 2 base platforms, one for the stick and the other for the Throttle control. It has more buttons than you'll probably ever use (unless you play flight sims) so there will almost be no need to use keyboard hotkeys. Since the throttle is full size you don't have to worry about adjusting a small switch common on most other joysticks. The x45 will run about $70-$90. Also to note Saitek released the upcoming release of the X52 Flight Controller which takes the X45 design and improves upon it. I don't know when they are going to release this Flight Controller but I have spotted a few European sites that are now selling it. Hopefully it will be marketed in the U.S. sometime soon.

So look around for what you want. You can always try the sticks out at your local "FutureMart" as many stores will have these and other peripherals on display. Just decide how much versitility you want and choose the controller that is right for you.

Good Luck! And see you in space.

Checked out the X45 on the web, looks class and not bad at around £50 (UK). I assume these are weighty pieces (joystick+throttle) and not prone to sliding arond or tipping over.
