OK it looks like we will finally get space mining. Many have requested this feature and Im glad to see this kind of gameplay go into space.
Now we can discuss what kinds of mining we would like to see. Will we have the same resources that are found on the ground in space or will space be the only way to get totally new resources for new craftable objects? The latter seems more logical to me (we can mine very efficiently on the ground so why would we go in space to do it).
Many in the combat upgrade alpha have said that the CU will essentially be SWG 2.0 and many things, even crafting will change. So that makes me think if the devs are planning to revamp the ingredients of current weapons or everything else to include some of the space resources (That would be unfair to people who do not own JTL or the new expansion (ROTW?)).
ROTW and CU will enter beta symultaniously and probably go live at the same time. With that in mind, will all the new CU weapons require this new space resources?
These are of coarse answers we will find out soon enough. But I decided to start this thread to hear some feedback on how everyone would like the space mining to work. Should existing schematics be changed to require new space resources? or should it only be required by the newest and future craftables from the CU and ROTW?
Discuss.

All I know is that im excited to see things moving along, but SWG 2.0?? I feel a bit overwhelmed...like will all this change the game that much? I am hoping it will for the better.

They have been pumping on this bad boy (CU) for quite some time. They were working on HAM improvments long before JTL was released. And they have delayed it quite a bit. I'm expecting MAJOR overhauls on this game.

Well I can only echo what Ive heard from the correspondents and alpha members mention a few times, that practically everything will change in combat and many of those changes will impact the crafting professions. To what extent is anyones guess.
I am all for change as long as its for a better system. As long as the change does not require existing crafters to purchase the new expansions to keep making the same items.
I am also assuming these mining attachments to your ship must be certified in much the same manner all other parts are certified. Master pilots would be able to mine more efficiently.

Its not entirely unfair to require some space resources for some new schematics. It would be a perk of exploring the new content. Other games have expansion specific loot all the time an no one complains. Besides a person that cant go into space could always purchase resources from an Asteroid Miner. In any case it looks pretty interesting. Mining will involve cutting off an capturing pieces of Asteroid. Then you can probably land somewhere an try to gather usable resources from it. Or maybe even do that while in space if your using a Multiplayer ship.

Personally, I was a bit concerned when I read that the higher quality resources in space would be in the most dangerous areas which suggests Static spawning. The point of having resource shifts in the ground game was to preventa small group of people from taking over control of a resource. Letting that happen in space (assuming space resources aren't just another means of getting ground resources and then somewhat futile) seems to be a step backwards from that philosophy.

I hope there will be faction controlled Asteroid fields that can be seized and fought over.

Great... just...great. All i can say is this damn ship had better not exceed ANYTHING beyond any space ship in current existance, and better have NO extra abliites AT ALL. If sony makes it so that we all have to grind j3d 3y3 to be viable in space PvP too, im sooo done with this game.
Wrong thread, troll.

No, im not trolling, its a statement of opinion. Jedi are bloody overpowered in PvP, we don't need them in space too. The ship had better be just a token chassis like the YT, seriously.

I'm not allowed to give details, but it's probably safe to say yes, yes it will.

I dont think this will be a problem. There isnt any real estate in space that you can claim to yourself unlike the ground. You can fly anywhere you want even clip other player ships. As long as the particular resources cannot be depleted by any one player or group of players it will be fair.
