Thread: Redeed vs Increase Ship Limit

I know that there has been discussion about the ship limit being too low, and the counter to this is to redeed (and it is a good one) but I still think that we need to have an increase in the ship limit. There is absolutely no difference between having a ship in your datapad or having it as a deed (except maybe the components are being stored in inventory instead of in the ship itself, but that is negladable (SP?). This isn't a high priority issue, but I think that it should be considered as something added to JTL. If at the very least, make it a 1yr veteran reward to be able to increase the ship limit by one.

Just a thought, but why not increase the limit, but having more then 3 ships will require a "docking fee" of sorts. In the sense that you can pay a fee for more room to park your extra ships. Now it can be made into a monthy, weekly, or (insert time frame here) basis, or a one time fee.

Example:

You have a YT-1300, a Firespray, and a Yacht. Now if you also wanted to have a light fighter in there to jump right into, you can pay a fee to have an extra "parking spot" for it and not have to redeed one of your ships. This will also help against having a lot stolen by a MP ship if it redeeds improperly. I lost a lot from the Yacht and have yet to be compensated

Well, for me, I want to have my YT-1300, my Yacht, my Firespray, and my Dunelizard all fully equipted, charged, and ready to fly. I do not currently have a Yacht, but would enjoy having one to decorate in my spare time for social events and to just kill time in. My YT is fully stocked, and is never leaving my datapad unless i drop Neutral pilot. My Firespray is great in a squadron, but not my fav solo fighter. I would just like to add my Dunelizard as an option to save time.

I echo what road has said as well, I have my decimator, my yacht and my oppressor, I am not big on the firesprey, but would love to fly my interceptor again without having to redeed my oppressor everytime...

I am not here to flame or bash, but i do have a question for you. Why do you need more than three ships in your datapad? I'm sorry but i still don't understand people who have three or more cars sitting around collecting dust, except for the collectors, farmers, and profession used vehicles, to use for personal use. I mean, why does a 9 to 5 worker need with more than three vehicles when they are the only one to use them? The same with ships. Why do you need more than 3 when most players, IMO, will generally use one for a main and the other two for rarer special occasions?

I am a pilot. That is my profession.Myships are my profession used vehicles.I am all for the redeed thing for now, but I don't see a logical reason why I can't have more then three. The devs did it as a DB issue (if the limit was much higher, then everyone would have more). I like the idea Road put forth where you pay for extra.

I currently have:

Firespray, A-wing, Nova.

I re-deed my Firespray when I want to use my X-wing or Y-wing Longprobe.

Yes, I do use them all for different occasions. The A-wing is the soloists dream, you can evade nearly anything. I use my X-wing for heavier, grouped fighter missions, my Y-wing Longprobe to help on Corvettes, and my Firespray when I'm not sure what I'm up against with some friends.

I have my Nova because its fully decorated, and I can take friends up in it.

Great ideas in this thread.

OF COURSE we should have as many ships as we want to have in our datapad!

Each ship has different roles... One should have a multipassenger ship for that role... A bomber for that role... A light fighter for that role... A heavy fighter for that role, etc, etc.

But SOE, as usual doesn't have a freaking clue, probably because they hate Star Wars.

If Lucas Arts took direct control of this game (or better yet, BioWare, the excellent devs of KOTOR), it might reach it's potential. SOE running Star Wars makes as much sense as letting Microsoft run Linux development. SOE with competing products OF THEIR OWN IN HOUSE (that they make more money on) has no incentive to do anything but KILL SWG.

Yeah. Until you go on vacation for a few days and return to find your Firespray equipped with all of your best RE'd components has gone *poof* because you didn't put enough money for docking maintenance.

Just wanted to give you a nice clear picture of what lies ahead on that path.

I can defintely see where people would want +3 ships in their datapad. Different ships have different roles and it would be nice to have the proper ship ready at the proper moment rather than having to take a half hour to outfit a ship with all of the necessary components to run group missions.

I'm sure that SOE's reason for not wanting to increase the limit is the same that they give when ever any limit increase is raised.

Database load!

Forgive me but I find that to be a rather lazy excuse. If there is a concern over database load then you need to look at how the data servers are balanced as well as how the code accesses them. Do this and the "load" issue can be reduced.

Eventually, SOE will need to address the database load issue. As I see it they have 3 options;

Do nothing and thereby incite players to laeve for games that will take actions to solve problems.

Do enough to get by. This just results in a short term fix and then the issue has to ba addressed again.

Take the time and really work out a long term solution to the problem.

Really, I'm most partial to the third option. It won't take care of the problem forever but it greatly affects the amount of time in between needing to re-address it. To me it makes the most sense.

Just my opinion.
