Been playing SWG on Starsider since right after launch. I hooked up with an old group of friends who turned out to be in a great guild. We had fun for about 6 months then everyone was maxed out with nothing to do. Low and behold I look around and a whole guild went for 20ish people and about 35 accounts to just me! Everyone was quitting with the same complaint - There's nothing to do after you master your professions. Then the great holo grind came up and I pressed on and finally got fed up with it as well and quit about 6 months ago.
I come back to the game after the great Jedi revamp to see how far I actually got. Lucky me, all my work paid off somewhat, I got two free unlocks. I knew it was a major grind ahead and I faced it head on with C12's and hours and hours of gameplay. I took my grind like a man killing thousand of Baz Nitches, Kunga's and Janta's. I do my quests, unlock my skills and keep throwing nades. Then JTL comes out and here is the distraction I need from the grind. I hook up with an old friend from my previous guild who came back as well after a 5 month hiatus. We get a new guild going and we head into space. I finally make it to Tier 3 Imperial missions and I'm getting owned. I failed the first 2 or 3 missions several times trying it solo but finally I prevailed and got a few of them done. I realise on the 3rd Tier 3 mission that I will NOT be able to complete this solo after 14 failures. That's not a big deal, I'll just wait for my guildmates to get up to my level and we'll knock them out. So tonight I'm helping a guildmate with mission 2 of Tier 3 which is hella long and now with the new Mob AI hella tough. Those tier 4 X-Wings are jousting us like mad. Believe it or not we handle business and keep plugging away at the mission. We get to the point where we have to get the transport ships systems back up and my guildmate can't dock with the ship even though it's his mission. I try to dock and successfully I can and we get the ship up and running. We figure it's just a wierd bug and press on.
Next thing you know the ship is flying right into a crapload of Tier 4 X-Wings plus the fighters that are scrambled to intercept us. Needless to say we get owned, frustrated and a big fat mission failure for our troubles. My guildmate and I realise that this sucks.about 1.5 hours of work down the drain. Tonight we both decide to quit for good and will be moving to WoW on Tuesday with the rest of our previous guild. So our new guild of 21 members will be disbanded because we are the guild leaders. That's twice a guild has been disbanded in this game due to game mechanics...............

(NOTE: this post is a generalized thought andMY personal opinion NOT directly pointed at ANYONE in this thread.)
Nothing is more fun than getting a fleet of guildies (4-10) and running JTL missions. I laugh when people they can't solo the space missions. This game is not all about 'solo this.....solo that'
Most of my guild are all about the same level, due to the fact that on fridays and weekends we group up, take our ships and run everyones missions and stay close to the same level. Running the same mission 3,4, 5 ect times (however many people need the mission done) isn't a an issue and gets handled quick.Even if run into the occasional flight of non-mission ships that get in our way we knock it out and keep going. Yes, we do lose people in the group from time to time but those letf in the group gladly pick up the slack for the groupie that's out of commision. My guild has 5 shipwrights that supply us with ships and components for cheap. Just due to the fact we help our guildies out. We all share the burden of supporting ourselves and each other and it works to our advantage.
On our server we have guild alliances, so from time to time members from those guilds join us to help us on our missions and we in turn help them with theirs.
Yes, alot of things can be soloed in the game on the ground.... but in space when you get the same XP off a ship that you kill solo that you also would get the same if you have 4-5 group mates help bring it down, why solo? Group up and help others.
Even if a person isn't in your guild, offer to help them. I'm sure they would do the same to repay the favor.
But I'm now a 4443 (close to 4444)Rebel Pilot because of team work.I'd maybe be Master pilot if I played a lil more often and the XP needed forTier 4 wasn't so great.I'm not that great of a flyer either, this is my first flight game and I'm getting better everytime I go up (the XP grind for tier 4 is great practice time for me :smileyvery-happy
. But because of the great support I recives from guildies and friends from other guilds I have just as much of a chance as anyone else. I even Take the time to help those who are alot lower then me with thier missionsto help them level up faster so that they can get to the point to join guildies in space on higher missions.lol, I know when I was 1111 pilot I wish I had someone with a completly equiped X-wing to fly with me in space. I'm a willing person when it comes to helping others, and because of that and those that know me, when I need help I usually get it right away without having to hunt and wait for people becuse they know, when they need help I will coming running ......it's actions like that, that feeds off itself. Helping others, helps yourself.
To become a Master Pilot, you must destroy a Corellian Corvette. You CAN'T solo that. So, it's best to learn how to fly in a group to prepare you for the beating you will take. When you fly with the same people over and over throughout your leveling and thier leveling you learn the others flying habits and know what to expect. And by helping everyone level up at a similar rate you yourself assure that you will have other similar level people to help you when go to kill the Corvette (because you WILL need a group) What fun would it be if you were 4444 pilot, ready to master and all your guildies and friends inother guildswere still 2222 pilot? Stop being selfish and help them. The quicker they allreach 4444, the quicker you ALL can master.
Nothing is more grand to look out of your cockpit windows in any direction and see those you care about and become friends with flying wing to wing with you.
And for the record, I've been playing since launch, never have quit and never wanted to quit. Why? It's not because I never seem to find something exciting to do, because I ALWAYS seem to find something to occupy meand becuase I have a great guild that works together. Sure we've had a few members leave due to various reasons, not everyone has the same attention span. But the majority of my guild is still here and going strong. And the guild is an old guild, one of the fewlongest running guilds onTarquinas. (I think you can count on one hand the number of long standing guilds, imp and rebel onTarquinas) I'm sure if I had the mentality where I wanted to Solo everyting as fast as I could I'd be burned out.Grouping and interactiong and putting forth effort to help people makes thing so much more enjoyable. Why pay to play a Multi-player game online if you just want to run around shooting stuff without interactions with people and your server community? Why play a game that has many many many interesting people playing along side you if all you are going to do is run off to some odd corner of a planet and grind grind grind without ever talking and interacting with others (yelling and screaming for buffs or 10 minutes so you can run off for 3 hours doesn't count). I know grinding Jedi is hard and takes awhile, but why do THAT alone, if you have a jedi friend go off and grind with them, safety in numbers and it's someone to talk to. The do make games where you don't have to interact with people. Leave, sorry to see you go. I don't like seeing potential contibuters to the SWG community leave, but if this game isn't your style then good luck where ever you go. Stay safe and be well. But leave gracefully. complaining about your failures or dislikes doesn't affect those who really enjoy the game. It's akin to grumbling and slamming the door as you leave. All that would do to me is make me shrug and say ''oh well" and off I go to do whatever I was planning to do anyway.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes alot of things can be soloed, but that doesn't mean you should. And who's fault is it for not enjoying the game? SOE's? Or yours for putting yourself in a situation that worked against you and frustrated you into not enjoying it?
Thank you for your time reading.

Plenty of people still like swg and jtl. So I wouldn't bother laughing at us, as were having fun, which is what games are about. I'm quite bored of the ground game, but I play for jtl. I have lots of fun playing that with my mates and think its a good game. I don't care if you think its a POS, I don't even know you so its not going to affect my judgment of the game.

Can I have yer stuff!?
I mean really, enough with the quitting threads.
You obviously got in over your heads and are trying to rush the grind.
I am a 4, 3.75, 3, 3 Rebel and have yet to hit a major stumbling block in my progression.
Not saying your points aren't valid, jsut saying, try harder and don't move to the big missions till yer ships equipped properly.
And don't forget about droid commands and pilot skills, they are often neglected.

Yup Jtl layout is a failure. Its just to long winded to get things done if you have to repeat a mission. It's very expensive as you get higher ships which takes even more time on the ground to get cash. Then back in to space for yet another mission attempt with a threat of a long trek back to reset the mission. What made you leave is the exact same thing that made me give up swg and unistall it. My account subs runs out in a week and i'm gone. I was hopeing Jtl was going be a good thing. But it really a anti fun factor. SWG and its expansion is just a theme park for fan boys at the end of the day. It hold no staying power for those just wanting a good mmog to play who like the star wars movies but don't spank their monkeys over them.

Man, but Id almost create a character on Tarquinas just to see you guys in action Dark_Eclipse. That sounds like an absolute blast. The major snag Ive hit is the getting to Tier 2 part, because I keep getting killed in space. My own fault, I know, but I haven't been able to get past it.
