I just got a new computer setup and I went up into space and noticed that once in a while, my ship slingshots toward me for a second, then my speed goes to 0, then back up to full speed.....is this part of the space experience or a bug?

This happens to me contantly, on the order of every minute to minute and a half. There have been several threads reporting this issue and have yet to see a dev or correspondent response. What's your setup, raz? Most of us that are reporting this problem seem to have an AMD Athlonand a motherboard with the nforce chipset, usually the Asus A7N8X.

I have dual AMD Athlons, but certainly not on that motherboard or with the rest of that setup. I have talked to people on Intels having the same issue. It has always appeared to me to be a synch/reset issue, since your throttle defaults to zero when you connect to the space zone.

This happens to me only ocasionaly. I suspect it is a game related bug.

ouch, I have exactly that setup, thought it was just lag that I needed to get used to (even tho I ping between 40 and 60 most of the time)

I have an Athlon XP chip, but different motherboard. I've noticed this happens in streaks, so I was assuming it was a game problem. Never bug reported it since it was so minor for me.

This is the result of the server syncing with the client. In effect, the server asks your computer where it's at, then says, "Whoa! You're not way up there/back there! Get back here!"
Several things come into play here. The major one being the dynamic memory allocation of your operating system. The coding of JTL seems to be having a bit of difficulty staying in sync with the individual computers. Since a cluster cannot vary it's timing on a per client basis, it takes all the timing and finds a happy medium, thus making it worse for some than others.
The devs are constantly building the code to make it complex enough to communicate in a more dynamic (rather than leaning towards static) way.

Same problem here, and I'm not using Athlon processor/chipset.
I always thought it was a client/server synch problem...

Happens a lot to me and even though I'm absolutely uncertain if this is related in any way... -yes- I do have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo and an AMD XP2500+ (OC'ed to a 400MHz FSB @ 1900MHz instead of the default1833 @ 333MHz). This issue clearly has to do with the client and the server going out of sync. I always have to wait for the "reset" until I can hit/damage an enemy ship again. This can take up to several minutes, unfortunately. It really, really blows to be stuck in out-of-sync mode and I also hope that this gets fixed soon. It's extremely annoying...

Happens to me when I'm crashing into the big freighters I'm meant to be escorting. I bounce my speed goes to 0 then I speed up again. Wingmen get amused with this tactic but it's highly fun especially when they're blowing up the incoming.

As an experiment I replaced the A7N8X motherboard with a MSI KM4AM-V (Via chipset) I had in the closet. I haven't seen a slingshot in a day and a half. Gameplay is much smoother, and I haven't noticed the NPC AI doing the drunken bat number they used to do frequently.

I hear that it happens when your ship is too pink.

Actually yes it happens to me too. Not enough to be a problem but enough to notice it.
O.
